Was it me, or did people expect more from the Comicon tournament?
I went and paid $5 for parking, $8 to get in, $12 for two boosters (for myself, not to play), only to see tables and a judge (maybe two, I was too upset to ask).
I would have paid $25 to play a tournament, that I could have played for free at my local comic shop! Granted we don't play for a prize, but we play for fun, as we all should.
I was just so utterly dissapointed in the "Wizkids Tournament", that I just walked by and said, "you've got to be kidding me?"
After seeing so many pictures on there website, of the conventions they attend, the display cases they bring along, the large amount of staff (I'de like to think so), I was expecting the same thing here. More so because they ARE located here!
Nothing.
I did send an email out to their conventions rep. Here is what I sent and their response:
Dear Wizkids:
I wish to tell you my utter dissapointment with the Wizkids event held at the Emerald City Comicon yesterday in Seattle.
While I am not able to travel and visit many of the events held by
Wizkids at all the conventions, I have seen on your website, I was very dissapointed to find out that the only event being held at the comicon was just a tournament.
I was telling everyone I know that I play with, that Wizkids would be present at the comicon. While I take full responsibility that I was going off what I thought was suppose to be there, meaning: Wizkids stands, display cases, future set examples, Crimson Skies/Mage Knight/Mech Warrior displays, banners, booster being sold. All it was, were tables and a judge who got the games going. While I did buy boosters, I had to buy them from a vendor
several aisles away.
I did not stay and find out anymore on the tournament, so as far as I knew, it was only one judge. For that, I take responsibility for.
But I have received calls from friends who also, were expecting more from Wizkids. They, as well as I, were expecting Wizkids to go all out on this, since Wizkids is located here in Seattle (Bellevue). With the display cases, booster boxes, staff from Wizkids (again, I did not stay to find out if they were there or not, my responsibility on that), just something more attention grabbing, more wanting to come see you. But nothing.
I hope this is not the way Wizkids plans to show up at any future
conventions here in Seattle, because I would like to support a product that supports itself. And I just did not see this here.
Believe me when I tell you, you could have gotten much more attention, more sales, more people interested in the game, if you sold yourself more. After walking around and seeing that it was just set up tables, I really did not want to talk to anyone, let alone play.
If I had played, I would have paid $5 for parking, $8 to get into the comicon, $12 for 2 booster boxes (which I bought for myself anyways), and try for a prize, for a total of $25! just to play!?
I can do all that at my local comic store for free! And while we don't always play for the prize, we play for the fun we get out of it. And I found no fun at the comicon regarding Wizkids.
All I ask is that you pay more attention to your supports who would like to come and see you, at our local conventions. What's the use of supporting a company, if they won't make it fun for me to come see them?
Thank you for your time.

Their response:
Hi Mario,
I am sorry to hear you were disappointed with the Emerald City ComiCon.
While we would certainly like to- WizKids is simply not able to attend every regional convention where our games are represented. Even if they are held locally. We have a full schedule of attended conventions that you can see on our website:
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/wk_article.asp?cid=36215&frame=events
These conventions are the ones where you will find all of the things you were hoping to see at the show this past weekend.
In addition to our attended conventions, WizKids also has a supported convention program. You can also see a list of our supported conventions on our website:
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/wk_article.asp?cid=37401&frame=events
We rely on our Envoys and Convention Organizers to run great WizKids events at these shows. We are happy to feature them on the website and send them prize support and giveaways for the show since we cannot be there ourselves.
I am sorry to hear you were disappointed, and I hope that you will be able to make it to one of our attended conventions this year.
Thanks,

While I know all of this, I would think they would make the extra effort, and I don't really think it would have been that much extra effort, to display themselves here.
The response in itself, just seems like a way to let me know they got my message and well, that's it.
Just wanted to rant a little.
Thanks,
Uncle Ben
