View Full Version : Which figures need to be more then just pogs?

Pick as many as you want, it's multiple choice.
Which characters that we got as pogs, do you feel should have been actual figures?
(I've deliberately left out pogs like Jimmy Woo and Ken Hale who will be figures in HOT)
Due to not having enough option spaces, some characters had to share.

Hey guys, you are allowed to make more then one choice up there.
Though if you pick # twelve and another one you're going to look confused. I'm looking at you Carlos.
All of them.
I don't like "2D Figures". Either make the character into a real figure, or just don't. I still find it a little sad that the Jarvis we have is with a skrull sculpt.

I voted Wing & Knight. They both should be.
However, I would've voted Detective Chimp first and Lockheed second, but quite frankly the characters each of them was paired up with do nothing for me. I couldn't vote for both when I would only ever want one ofthem.

All of them.
Seconded. The only one I kind of waffled on was Lockheed, but even if he doesn't merit his own solo non-pog clix, he should definitely be part of a duo.

yeah a lot of these characters deserve more than just bst....but the one above all has gotta be detective chimp (http://www.flickr.com/photos/blubeard/1229896754/in/set-72157601643830884/)
I voted for all of them, but If I could have put all my votes on one choice it would have been Doug Ramsey.

he'd be my second choice as well, but i haven't done a mod of him ;)
Generally speaking I'm for characters getting multi-click dials rather than pogs, so in theory I should have clicked on each of the characters, but I answered very off-handedly this morning and left a few un-checked. This was in part because of some of the pairings (Lockheed deserves one, but Thor, Frog of Thunder is one of those narrowly specialized items I'd really only like to see made if it were to be either a New Guy Night freebie or an inexpensive, open to all, mail-away) and in part because I know they've been (wisely) leaning towards making complete teams in a single expansion and I wasn't sure I wanted 4 slots in a set taken up by the Challengers of the Unknown.

Challengers of the Unknown (all 5 of them, all with prob control)...Collen Wing and Misty Knight (they made Tarantula for cryin' out loud...and Coleen and Misty are much cooler/veteran characters - not sure if they should be individuals or a duo-figure)

Doug Ramsey I don't care for. Douglock Duo? Yes Please.

All of the above.
I don't think that anyone waiting for any of these characters was happy to get them as a pog. Maybe they thought "better than nothing", but that's about it.
But I am no fan of pogs as a part of team-building strategy. If they want to continue to use pogs as characters, then I think they need to consider some ways to make them something other than cheap, one click characters.

I would like all, but listed them in order of preference
Misty Knight (maybe a duo w/Colleen Wing)
Detective Chimp
Sarge Steel
Congorilla
Swarm
Space Phantoms
Colleen Wing
Sin Eater
Challengers Of The Unknown
Doug Ramsey
Matter Eater Lad
Dolphin
Mera
Harvey Bullock
Speed Saunders
Kamandi
Lockheed
Frog of Thunder
Dane Dorrance
Challengers of the Unknown (all 5 of them, all with prob control). Ah, yes, I forgot they've expanded that over time. I keep defaulting to the four from the Kirby era.

Agreed, Stone Boy as a bystander would be a travesty.
Much preferable as a special object that can be pushed off elevated terrain as an attack on non-elevated figures below.:classic:

You know; Thor, Frog Of Thunder absolutely is the least likely to just be a pushover pog. he's a frog with the power of Thor for cryin' out loud.
He could easily hold his own in a knockdown dragout fight with say Hoppy The Marvel Bunny, Mighty Mouse, Atom Ant, Captain Carrot or Wonder Warthog for instance.
Look them up on Wikipedia if you don't know who they are.

Misty Knight & Colleen Wing Duo (aka Daughters of the Dragon): I think this would make a very cool duo piece. I'd prefer a more classic 1970's Marvel sculpt, vs. the contemporary look, but either would be great. B/C/F, CCE and a whole lot of sass!
Detective Chimp: This just...has...to...happen...
Doug Ramsey (Douglock): I would dig this if we could get that crazy Cypher/Warlock hybrid "Douglock" or perhaps both New Mutants icons as a duo.
Matter Eater Lad: What's this guy gonna do? Fly around and "eat" barriers, walls, and item pogs? Okay, I'm in.
Harvey Bullock: We got a couple versions of Jim Gordon, come on already, Harvey needs a Clix!
Kamandi: Knew him only by name until BATMAN:BATB -- Yes, of course he should be a Clix.
Lockheed: Done. Done. And waaaaaaaaaaay past done.
Frog of Thunder: I'm not a huge Thor fan, but even I couldn't resist picking up Thor comics featuring a frog with the power of Thor on the cover! MAKE IT SO!!!!!!!!!!!!

They all should have figures. I tend to feel those who lean towards the pog-inization of a character more than likely lack experience of a character. In a way it's a more severe case of the acute ignorance that shafted CT Batgirl.
I love the 30's Fox/Flessel Speed Saunders stories. His abilities shouldn't be handicapped because of the lack of viable and accessible reprints. Speed Saunders shouldn't be less powerful than a Thug or Lackey. Even if you'd rationalize that the Saunders pog represents the modern senior-citizen version, his longevity and zeal for life should warrant more than a single clix of life.
Ultimately Heroclix should be a game of comic book character combat and not a game of vogue comic book character combat.
All of them.
I don't like "2D Figures". Either make the character into a real figure, or just don't. I still find it a little sad that the Jarvis we have is with a skrull sculpt.
Yes I think there should have been Bystandards but these charactors are real heroes give use like cheerleaders, kids with dogs, or A FREAKIN MAIL MAN.
I'd love to see Collen and Misty either as a duo or solo's, but truth be told it's a rare instance you have on and not the other so Duo would be 1st choice, an since neither are extremely high powered we might see a duo fig under 100 pts that is truly worth playing. Plus so many other Hero for hire lineups are so near completion. Paladin is not too terribly old, we just need a Humbug a Black Cat and these 2 to round out the newest team, or just these 2 to roll old school, oooh and if they ended up 64pts they make an even 200 with Power Man/Iron Fist Duo!

Years ago, when the pogs for Colleen Wing and Misty Knight came out, I had a typical debate with Ohoni about the merits of Colleen Wing and Misty Knight getting figures rather then pogs. Anybody who's ever engaged Ohoni in verbal combat knows what that was like.
He insisted they should be pogs because they never fell under his radar as important enough characters to deserve anything more. He'd apparently never read a single issue of "Deadly Hands Of Kung Fu" or the early Iron Fist books before Iron Fist moved over to hang with Luke Cage.
Because he personally was unfamiliar with their adventures in the prehistoric days before he read comics they did not deserve anything better.
(I asked him later what he thought about the preCrisis Cheetah making it into Icons and I do believe steam came from my computer when I read his reply.)
The bottom line is; from my POV, pogging these characters is disrespectful to them. They shouldn't have to be penalized because they don't hang with Wolverine or Batman 24/7. They've all been in their fair share of great stories and everyone of them deserves a figure at least as much as the Danger Girls did.

Yeah. That guy was a character.
I, like most others, voted for all of them. Being an Aquaman fan, I have often wanted a Sea Devil generic figure (preferably with the newer outfits they used in the story that introduced the newer Marauder character). So I believe that even Dane Dorrance, the character with the least votes, would make a great clix.

Boneyard actually gave me a warning once because of one of our discussions that a third party that went by Doc Nebula attempted to turn ugly.
i meant to vote for all of them, not realizing that was an option. i think pogs are good for supporting characters with no real powers like Aunt May, Lois Lane, etc. or as someone else said generic characters like postmen, cheerleaders, students. These characters were heroes in their own right and deserved figures. Maybe they will eventually get them like some other pogs are now 3D. :)

Why is this sentence not making sense to me? Wait was/is Boneyard a moderator? Was this Doc Nebula actually Ohoni? 'm 99+% sure that Ohoni and Doc are different people. I've known Doc Nebula (through comics circles) since the early nineties. I don't think he came into any discussion with the intent of turning it ugly, but he does take an unfortunate "I will suffer no fools" approach that almost inevitably leads to the majority of any group that deals with him taking it personally and rejecting him. The simplified form is that eventually he'll make statements that categorically declare anyone who believes one or more of the things he's said are wrong to be deficient of mind and/or defective of judgment.
It's a big world, and it makes sense that there would be far more than one person who would have detailed and elaborate "fixes" for the game. That they both tended to come at it from a comics perspective (ie approaching it from the perspective of how things work in comics regarding those characters) lead them to similar places. He's very big on roleplaying games and has had similarly epic arguments with people concerning D&D, which he finds vastly inferior to the RPG structure he's developed.
Their earnestness arises from sincerity, and each put a great deal of thought into how they wanted things to work, so I try to give them credit for that. In the end, though, the problem is that their redesigns make it a substantially different game, so the only way it's really going to work is if each can find -- or, better still, build -- a group of local players willing to adopt his house rules.
Had Doc and I lived near each other I would have been willing to play games with him under his house rules, but we've never lived in the same state and I've tended to shy away from most house rules because I don't want to become accustomed to a revised style of play and then find myself at a venue and have to fight to remember to play according to the official rules.
He, unfortunately, after having spent time developing his version of the rules, wasn't willing to play by the official ones and wasn't able to convince any locals to play by his, so while he still has a collection of pieces he doesn't play anymore.

That's a giant response to my two sentence post. Imagine if I had gone four sentences. What's your annual keyboard bill like these days? Heh. Borrowing loosely from Ben Franklin, I lacked the time to be succinct. Trying to be pithy when talking about someone else tends to polarize towards either glorifying them or trashing them, and neither extreme seemed appropriate.
As for the keyboards, well, it's a Friday afternoon and I'm in work. ;) I'm toggling between this screen and several others.., including actual work!
Hey, we live near each other and we never gamed together? Difficult to say if we ever did, come to think of it. I've never been big on the venue/AP scene, though I most often ended up down at the Plymouth Meeting Mall (events AZS judged), occasionally hitting ones at Infinite Quests back when they used to hold them. I've been to a couple others along the way, but generally only for a special event such as a pre-release.

The warning wasn't an official moderator style warning. I think he just PMed me.
I was having a discussion with the (as usual) intractable Ohoni and Doc Nebula joined the discussion on one of Boneyard's threads. Doc Nebula apparently had several disagreements with Ohoni in the past but in this case decided he was going to agree with Ohoni on this one.
I have no idea whether Ohoni or Doc Nebula received anything similar.

I live in the Chadds Ford area. So Plymouth Meeting would be up for me. Actually my B&M is in Delaware though in playing this game since IC I've been in a total of six tournaments. Two NGNs and the four Galactus Herald rounds.
I was just pulling your leg and goofing around as it's Friday (and I'm at work) as well.
