I've never read a Hellboy comic, but I was just reading some stuff about the movie thats being made. Its being directed by the guy who did Blade 2 (I forget his name) and Ron Perlman as hellboy. For those of you who read this book does that soundl ike good casting? Whats the book like? Just basically what can be said about the book?

I've read the plot outline, so I know that Hellboy is a demon thats brought into the world by Nazis to help them win the war. How hes working for the US governemtn in an X-Files type securtiy force. Thats about all I know.

Hellboy is more or less a horror-type comic. He was summoned by Nazis to bring about the end of the world. But thanks to some paranormal investigators the Americans were at the site where Hellboy appeared. He was taken in by the investigators and raised to help them with their work. He is incredibly tough, very strong and he has a large stone hand in place of his right hand. The stone hand has never been explained (he doesn't know how/why he got it) but it is very powerful. Throughout his stories he has overcome supernatural/occult threats to the planet. The Nazis do still play a large roll, with old Nazi scientists thawing out of suspended animation and unleasing unholy terrors and the like. All in all it is a very "atmospheric" title. Lots of mood and darkness.

I'd highly recommend picking up some Hellboy and reading it. It is one of my favorite comics now, even though I used to avoid Mignola's art in the past. His style just seems to work for Hellboy.

Looking at the casting, I think it could work out. Pearlman can play very gritty parts. I also like the choice of John Hurt. Expect Pearlman to either be heavily made up or possibly partially CG animated to make the character though. I'm interested to see how the Hulk movie does rendering the CG Hulk over the normal actor. They may do something similar with Hellboy (he has hooved feet, a tail, a big stone hand, etc.).
