I was playing Heroclix the one day and I looked at my selection and realized that U HT Batman and R IC Hulk both cost the same amount of points. This got me thinking. Just because they are Heroclix equals doesn’t translate back translate back to comics. I think most of us would agree that Hulk could beat Batman in a fight.

That is the idea for this tournament. Every entry will be close to the same amount of points Heroclix wise, but this will be their comic forms fighting!

Rules:
This will be a standard single elimination tournament with 16 combatants. There will be 2 to a fight. They get no knowledge of each other (unless they have fought in the past). The only thing they get is the Heroclix figure of there enemies and their character cards (if the figure does not have a card, assume there was a custom one made). They will have 5 minutes to prepare. This is a fight to the death or KO, whichever happens first, and they must fight (no waiting for the opponent to die of starvation). They have with them what they normally carry and what there fig has if it is different. (Like how Bullseye doesn’t carry a gun, but he has one on the fig).

(Speed) KLTPZYXM!: Mr Mxyzptlk can use Phasing/Teleport. When he does, roll a d6 before moving him. On a result of 1, deal Mr. Mxyzptlk 1 unavoidable damage, place him in an unoccupied square in his starting area, and then move him normally.

(Attack) Object Animation: Give Mr. Mxyzptlk a power action and roll a d6 for each opposing character that has zero or one action token, that is in a square 4 or fewer squares away to which Mr. Mxyzptlk has a clear line of fire, and that is carrying an object or adjacent to or occupies either a square of hindering terrain or a square that has an object. On a result of 3-6 give the character an action token.

Mr. Mxyzptlk to win.

The Big Red Cheese will be trying to get him to say his name backwards, and when it fails to send him home he won't really have another option. Mxy has the power to completely incapacitate Superman, so I'd have to say there's no question he can completley incapacitate Captain Marvel too.

If we're playing that Billy starts off as Billy and has to say the magic word, then this is what happens: Billy tries to say the magic word when a ball gag, oily rag, or metal plate blocks his mouth and the annoying imp appears and gloats before conjuring some sort of comical death trap that, were the hero powered up, should pose no true threat, but merely serves as a first act annoyance. However since he can't say the magic word, Billy is helpless and is shot/burned/decapitated/savagely mauled by a cartoon bear/sucked through an over-sized vacuum cleaner/molested to death by a priest/or smothered in hugs until dead.

This is followed by an exceedingly awkward silence and Mr. Mxyzptlk looks into the camera in shock before opening a portal behind him and slowly backing out of our dimension.

Vote: Myx

Myx *always* plays with his prey though, Billy will have a chance to try things out, and he's likely to have heard of the weakness too.

I'm going to assume the name-backwards thing counts as a win, and I think the fairly-clever Billy with the Wisdom of Solomon can manage it. My vote: Levram Naitpac

So the Wisdom of Solomon won't help him trick Mxy?

So the Wisdom of Solomon won't help him trick Mxy?

I'd think it'd help. Will it work infallibly a majority of the time? Mxyz will toy with him, and that'll give him a chance. And let's face it, the imp's not all that clever when it comes to falling for that backwards name trick. I think Captain Marvel may just pull this one off.

Vote Shazam!

Here's the problem I have with all of the current pro-Marvel votes - by the rules of the tournament (specifically the arena) the "name backwards" trick doesn't work. We went over this back in Round One.

Saying his name backwards doesn't harm, knock out, kill or incapacitate Mxyzptlk - it causes him to send himself back to the 5th Dimension. He sends himself back - and you can't leave the arena. That's been pretty solidly established. We've had ToCs before where the specific rules of an arena circumvented a characters inherent weakness, and this is another one.

Since saying his name backwards won't send him away and we know Mxy has the power to incapacitate Captain Marvel, Mxy wins.

I wasn't sure that we had ever gotten an official ruling on that one. If that's the case, then I switch my vote to Mxyz

Oh well, than this is just an inheritly one-sided fight.

My vote: Mr. Mxyzptlk

If Mxy cant be sent back to his dimension, I have little choice but to votre for him here.

I may have ruled differently if it wasn't for the fact that Mxy's HC power "KLTPZYXM" only sends him to the starting area and not out of the game. Thus, I have to agree with Grinner here.

The only way to really beat Myx would be to pull a Magog (like that is going to happen) or to do what Joker did and get him to give you his power. Neither are very likely. (Although, still possible...)

A pretty easy vote for Myxz under these tournament conditions then.

If that doesn't count, then yea, Mxy wins. Switch vote.

What a joke. Mxy wins even if the say-his-name-backwards trick works. If he knows he's in a competition, rather than just messing with peoples' heads for the his own personal amusement, he's not going to give Billy-o the chance.

An unneeded vote for Mxy.
