New venue for Ballarat Heroclix!

Well the new Heroclix is almost out, and we have a brand new venue to have the tournaments at in Ballarat! That's right folks, Heroclix tournaments are going to be held at Goodgames from now on!

If you don't know where Goodgames is, it's a great store located in Sturt Street (the main street) in Ballarat. They are open late and have heaps of room for gaming. It's close to the Lydiard Street corner that the Commonwealth Bank is on, just one door down from the bank. The guys at Goodgames are even getting HOT Prize pack LEs for prize support for us. They have a great range of games and will be stocking Heroclix from now on as well.

Our first tournament there will be held on Thursday. November the 5th at 7pm. We're changing to a Thursday night to see how that goes. We probably won't have any of the new LEs by then, but I still have some Arkham Asylum boosters we can use for prizes. Entry will be $4 as usual, and the format will be a straight 500pt game with random battlefield conditions.

The new set "Hammer of Thor" is due out on November 18th, so if it comes into the store on time we might have a special release event on the 19th. It will be a booster draft where you buy two boosters and draft from what everyone gets in their boosters (you get first choice from your own). And we should have Hammer of Thor LEs for prizes by then as well! :)

Yeah the Melbourne scene has become pretty sad. Now that dodgy Joe at Alternate Worlds can just buy the prize pack outright, I'm not sure that he'll bother running tournaments anymore.

You could always make the trip up here. It's no worse that driving across Melbourne (unless you live on the other side already, and then have to drive across and then up). A couple of Melbourne guys have come up here from time to time.

Or try and get a venue organised in Melbourne yourself?

Might I suggest that you start a "Weekly HeroClix at Good Games, Ballarat" thread? Maintaining the Tin Soldier tournaments thread has been a worthwhile effort for us (and I'm not even the judge :p).

Whilst you may well be able to keep your regular players informed via the store, I think that having a thread on HCR both helps to advertise your venue, encourages people who might be staying in town for a week to drop in with their team, and raises the overall visibility level of clix in Australia.

If people click onto the Australia (AU) subforum and see multiple tournament venue threads, it's going to reinforce the fact that clix is back and that there are people around the country playing it - not just a single venue. Clix in Australia has seemingly suffered from the poor support of Croftminster and the abrupt disappearance of sme judges, not to mention the year-long haitus between Arkham Asylum and Hammer of Thor, so we need to do a bit of work to build it up again.

I'd like to see a return to HeroClix tournaments that it's worth driving intercity or even going interstate to attend.
