Hey All,

I've been thinkin' lately. I play tournaments a few times a week and I play at a place on Monday Nights. During the Hero Clix games they have other games as well involving minatures and they play on boards with 3D structures Ruins, Colliseums, Fields with mountains and graveyards, etc. I was wondering how most gamers would feel about playing on similar maps catered to the hero clix game such as Gotham City or Marvel's New York or what not. I like the idea of seeing my heroes and villian on a roof I can actually see in 3 Dimensions. I am currently starting to build some structures out of balsa wood and foam core. I have an artistic background and think this would just be fun no matter what, but I wanted to hear your opinions. - T.

While I'm also a bit artistic, I got a tight, super tight, zero budget. So what I'm doing is getting my mother's Avon boxes after she's done with them and making the building with those. I've almost finished the actual, non-painted versions of the Marvel IC map with the buildings and swing set/park.

And man, is it fun to play on! It really drags you into the game!

Using 3-D terrain is great! I've made a couple 3-D boards and they really do add a lot to the game experience.

3-D boards are a lot of fun. My experience has been good with very box-like terrain pieces (like Avon boxes) where it is easy to match them up with squares on the map.

I picked up a build-it-yourself firestsation by Imaginext (?) and had a lot of fun with it.

We have also used accessories from a military playset to replace flat terrain features. You can find piles of sandbags, fences, and all sorts of stuff that is to scale with clix.

Good luck.

There are a few 3-d maps on E-bay, under the "Heroclix Unique" search. Seems this guy has vinyl maps with no fold creases, and they are sectioned into squares just like the maps we have now. The ones Ive seen are the Firestation, Policestation, and Street level maps.

Each comes with one E Figure, and a few 3-d objects to go with it. It looks pretty sweet, he has big pictures of them so that you can actually see the figures positioned on rooftops, street level, and sub-level sewer places. Looks pretty cool.

Check em out.

I would think that you could get in trouble with 3D buildings..... just think, you're all ready to wipe out your opponent, and then he brings out the firelord that was hiding behind one...

Hey I'm glad it sounds like others are trying this too. I was afraid you'd all think it was a horrible idea. I hope we get to see more games with it. I'd really love to play a game in 3 dimension just to see how it changes the feel of the game.

I've actually made up some very detailed plans on making a table into a permanent 3-D playset for HeroClix with buildings you can enter and stuff too... only problem is I don't have the money or time right now. One of these days though, one of these days.... Oh yea, and I've got these ideas for a scale billboard that would be awesome.

Just though I would throw out some sources for you all. Some are a bit pricey, but they are all pretty cool.

I've started to do this too. I've had requests for my site to have Scenery Building "How-To's", so I thought it would be fun to try.

If you guys have any of your finished 3D maps or terrain that you'd like to put on display, let me know. My URL's in my sig. I love checking out other peoples' work and posting it where others can admire it.
