Okay, here;s the question.

When taxiing a figure from ground level to a rooftop, do you have to enter soaring mode to do so?

I have been playing that you do. Its my impression that a hovering fig is subject to the same movement restrictions as ground based figs when it comes to blocking terrain. I play so that if you were to taxi a figure to a rooftop without soaring mode, you would have to use the stairs.

To get them directly to the rooftop witout having to use the stairs, you would enter soaring mode.

IS this correct, or can you just simply hover a person to a rooftop? That doesnt make much sense to me, but it was brought up and argued over, so we rolled the dice to decide and my argument stood that you must enter soaring mode to get to a rooftop without using the stairs.

I hope I played that right. Clarification anyone?

For that ever present simplicity's sake - I don't think you have to change to soaring to move from the street to the top of a building.

someone with leap and climb doesn't have to spend an extra move so why should a flier?

Figures with L/C are ground based, without the soaring option. Spiderman climbs up the wall and saves time, Batman fires a grappling hook, Hulk just jumps to the top of the building. This says how they get to the rooftop.

But a Hovering character is basically a ground figure that can carry another figure, and has the OPTION to fly. In Hovering mode They cannot move through another enemy occupied square without stopping, so basically they must be pretty close to the ground. Going up to the height of a rooftop I think warrants a change from hovering to flying.

And since the rules are different in regards to a soaring character and how hard it is to attack them, (you must have range with a ground based fig, and then it is cut in half) it takes part of your speed movement to switch from hovering to soaring status just so you dont go to soaring at will without some sort of cost for doing so, while figs with L/C are subject to normal attacks at any time. They dont have to roll breakaway, but neither do the flyers. This is why the switching of status costs movement points, because it makes your figure harder to hit.

Just makes more sense to me.

The answer to your question is no. Flying characters ignore all terriain, so it doesn't cost anything to change elevation.

Thanks Todosi.

I guess this is another one of those situations where I will have to agree to disagree with the rulings.

Just like not being able to use RCE with Running shot. Well, on the bright side, Ill have 2 more movement points for all my taxi figures when taxiing figures to the roof of a building.....:D
