I read that people do a lot of griping on how Firelord is unfair, but my friend has a Thanos team that I cannot beat without him. His team has Thanos surrounded by a bunch of long range combat experts worth minimal points(Bullseye, Pyro, Boomerang, Blizzard etc.) I can't get anyone thru to attack Thanos, and even when I get someone in close to fight him, going toe-to-toe with Thanos is tough. Firelord is the only way I can do it so far. So, help? Who would be a good team to use against a long-range army? We use 400 point teams. Thanks for any and all help.

Try Vet Ultron with 3 SHIELD agents (or 4 if you can put in someone with Leadership). Hit the people in front of Thanos with 3 targeted SHIELD enhanced energy explosions. If Thanos is B2B with all of them, that'll do 12 clicks to him in a single shot. He'll take 10 after invulnerability and be pretty much worthless. His group of RCE figures will probably be all toast, too. Include some free moving Doombots (need someone with Brotherhood or Avengers in there, too) to move Ultron and the agents into place.

Try this:
V-Ultron
R-Magneto (Brotherhood and Leadership)
3x R-Doombot
3x R-SHIELD Sniper (or Troopers)
V-SHIELD Sniper

Taxi Ultron with Magneto (and roll his leadership).
Move the SHIELD Snipers next to Ultron with the Doombots
Shoot with Ultron with SHIELD boosted EE at 3 targets, ones all next to Thanos. If you get 5 actions, then you can use all 4 SHIELD snipers and do 15 clicks on any figure B2B with all 3 targets. Nothing can withstand that amount of damage (except a Sentinel, of course). If Ultron misses (unlikely with a 14 attack), then make sure you have as many of the Snipers as possible in LOS, and they can attack since they won't have used their action to boost damage.

This is admittedly a one-trick team, but it will serve as an important lesson on bunching up.

400 point team, huh. Try this out.

Exp-Invisible Girl (or a Vet Invisible Woman)
Unique-Wolverine (for the high attack value you'll need)
Vet Logan-Try to push him to get to his flurry w/3 points of damage OR flurry with b/c/f. 3 points is best, keep reading...
Vet Rogue-To taxi Logan up (one of the fastest flyers at a range of 10)
Vet Doc Ock-Perplex and willpower, good combo. Basically what you want to do is perplex logan's damage up to 4 (if it's on the flurry w/3 points of damage). That way you're doing a guaranteed 4 points of damage per hit.
Rookie Scarlet Witch-Free movement with more clicks of PC than a Black Cat

That's around 365 points right there.

Basically you have Logan tie up the support figures so that they're only doing 1 point of damage when they're base to base with him and he's got toughness, soo... You have Unique Wolverine attack Thanos with his higher attack rating, you shouldn't miss. You'll want to make sure you maximize his b/c/f, so if you do 2 points or lower on the first roll, have scarlet witch PC it and try again. 3 points or more, I'd probably keep it. Wolverine can take some clicks of damage. Either that or you have Logan try and hit him twice at 4 points each to get him past his good dial. Rogue can safely push onto the range combat guys as she'll have toughness/invulnerability still and she'll get steal energy anyway, so no biggie there. Doc Ock is there to perplex damage up for the logan at first and then he can also attack after he gets into position as well.

I chose invisible woman/girl because she can taxi wolverine around with her and they would both be stealthed.

Good luck.

Try lots of stealth. Useful stealth figures include:

-R/E Black Panther
-Wolverine
-Logan
-Elektra
-E Captain America
-Invisible Girl/Woman (who is significant 'cause E and V are stealthy taxis).

If they don't base you, they can't hurt you. If they do base you, they lose their RCE (if they are using it) and get killed by your abundant B/C/F.

Or, if you are playing DC vs Marvel, use Team Batman. They rock.

If Ultron misses (unlikely with a 14 attack), then make sure you have as many of the Snipers as possible in LOS, and they can attack since they won't have used their action to boost damage.
From the FAQ on SHIELD team ability:
This ability activates at the same time as the ranged combat action of the adjacent friendly figure. Use of this ability is declared before the dice are rolled. The S.H.I.E.L.D. figures being used are assigned actions and tokens whether or not the attack succeeds.
When using the SHIELD team ability, you must commit figures to boost damage before rolling for the attack. If the attack fails, these figures still receive tokens for supporting the failed attack. So, you cannot attack with any SHIELD team members that were committed to Ultron's attack, if he misses.

I appreciate all of your help and ideas! I think I might try the Ultron team first. We usually have too much open space for the stealth team, if I could get him to move his team indoors it would work. I know it is a one trick team, but even if I lose the rest of the fight, getting Thanos out of there would be enough for me, maybe then he would try some other team. Thanks! Anymore ideas out there I am happy to hear them!

>>We usually have too much open space for the stealth team, if I could get him to move his team indoors it would work.>>

When starting the game, both players roll two dice. The winner gets to choose the map (among other things, like going first). Thus, you should be able to make him play indoors, like, half the time.

It may not matter what you use. Try killing Thanos's taxis and support figures before going after Thanos. If you attack Thanos first you have to pass his defense and invulnerability. If you can isolate him by killing support figures first he is a dead duck. Since Thanos cost 185 you won't have many more figures to kill.

Mind Control works wonders on "big guy" teams. Try using Moondragon. She MC's at a 12 attack (taxi her with a U-Wasp) back her up with an AIM agent taxi'ed by a Doombot. The AIM agent raises her attack to 13 (so you only have to roll better than a five to hit Thanos' starting DV 18). MC Thanos and have him stomp all over his own guys.

For the Mad God himself, have a V- Whirlwind and U-Spiral in reserve. When it's time for cleanup, Spiral gets TK'd into battle by Moondragon and the Doombot or Wasp whisks in Whirlwind. Base Thanos with Spiral/Whirlwind adjacent and have Spiral mimick the MOE ability. 4 attacks (2 of them BCF) for only one action doing a possible 12 clicks of damage against his invulnerability. Roll well, and you can kill him in one round.

When he sees his own Thanos smacking around Bullseye et al, he'll probably burst a couple of blood-vessels. MC may be one of the most frustrating powers in Heroclix.

lots of perplex an a sentinel, and a few shield agents. up the damage and the range and fire away with multishot. you should be able to hit twice for 7 damage or more...... if you can afford it, set a stealthed outwitter in range of thanos and take out the invulnerable.

in a 400pt game it shouldn't be too hard.

My Moondragon only has a 10 attack! One of us has a deviant version. Also, MCing Thanos will cost moondragon a click of damage so perhaps not the best idea.

I have the same problems against my friend. I will take these strategies into thought.

if he's using Thanos count yourself lucky.
he isn't the best fig out there.
Ultron should do the trick so should FL, hey he's using all ranged figs so he can't blame you !
outwit and some serious melee figs should do the trick also, of all his figs only thanos can do some serious damage up close !

Well, thanks to everyone who helped me on this. I took some of your advice and went to my buddies house and creamed him in a 400 pt game. His Thanos team went down pretty good. I used mind control on Thanos, using Controller so the damage made Controller a little bit better, and used Thanos to wipe out his support figures and healers. I then alternated and used spider-man to incapactate Thanos, so he never got to use him. While pushing him to make Thanos take damage. Then using Klaw and Dr.Strange I out shot his long range snipers, while protecting my guys with blizzard's barrier power. I never actually had to attack Thanos for damage until the rest of his guys were dead or useless, then I just kept pushing him with mind control and incapacate. Controller took a pretty good beating, but I had a medic to help him out. When Thanos finally lost invulnerability I used a mandroid to TK hercules B2B with Thanos and walloped the mad titan. It was great. I only lost 1 warrior, my Yellow Jacket Taxi service, before he conceded the match. It felt great to waste that friggin team and not have to listen to the "you only did it cause of FireLord" argument. Thanks everyone.

Congrats!!

Sounds like you employed a solid gameplan there. Im a big fan of Spiderman because of that Incapacitate ability. Nothing better than knowing the figure has to push to take an action next turn, or cannot move at all.

The Barrier and Long range attackers was nice as well. You can shoot him, but he cant shoot you.

And taking over the MadTitan himself and wreaking a little havok had to be sweet for you as well.

Well played.
