Has any ever seen or maybe purchased and used one of these in a tournament?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3114290014&category=16488
I play in my first tournament tonight and was wondering if this was worth purchasing for future ones. Is line of fire a big point of contention in tournaments?
I've seen these used, but they do require someknowledge in how to properly use.
Now, I don't have this specific tool. But having worked at a place that requires ID cards...
This tool is basically used for that...
When using this tool, don't put the circular part in the square as suggested.... if the part where the string comes out is not properly aligned... it will give false readings...
Instead just use the string to draw Line of Fire deom center-of-square to center-of square....
Surely these can be purchased for less at some office supply store

Can you indicate a straight line from point A to point B? Good, now can you tell if a drawing on the map is in said straight line? If you can then you do not need this device (what a scam though) if you cannot then yeah buy something similar for cheaper at a tool store. Not an office supply store. Someplace like Ace Hardware or some sort of hardware store.

You really wanna spend 7 bucks on a yo-yo dude?
God Bless false advertising.
Just use a string, or go to your friendly neighborhood Office Supply store and buy an ID card retractable pin thingy that is used to swipe a card or something while keeping it on your person, cause that's what they are.

Listen,
This 'tool'... probably isn't worth what it is being sold for on e-bay.
I've seen this used to hold ID cards on your belt, then you use the 'line' to pull the card over to a reader so that the card can be swiped.
Sometimes you really need to draw Line of Fire. This is one of the better things I've seen because
1) It give a definite straight line.
2) It retracts and can be very easily stored.
Ace might have something similar, but all I can think of are the chalk dropping lines or laser level.

Thanks for the input everyone. I had a feeling that was exactly what the seller was using (an ID card reel) but hadn't checked on prices.
And to top it off the seller recently cancelled all of his auctions and increased the price of his 'tool' from $4.99 to the current $6.99. So much for free shipping.

At the risk of any credibility I may have, YES, I bought one of these, it's fun to use, and whenever I bring it out, it always elicits positive comments.
I think I even had it out at the tournament I ran that Tsannik played in (btw, he wiped the floor with everyone, using E Ultron, Dr. Strange and some SHIELD). I'm not sure I follow his points on accuracy, but maybe he can show me some time. Anyway, I like the gadget, and I'll buy another when mine is inevitably lost or swiped.
To answer your other question, LOF CAN be a big point of contention. But, as a player, it wouldn't necessarily be of use to you. You're still going to need the judge to rule on LOF disagreements.
Hope that helps.
BTW, I only paid $3.99.
lol but guys! look it's got the lil heroclix thingie on top! how much would you pay for THAT? think! you'll be the envy of everyone on the block! surely, that's worth at least 15 dollars! but he's only selling it for 7! What a bargain! :)

Why do I feel like Kiften should also continue...
"And, if you order now! I'll throw in a 2nd doohickey! That's twice the doohickeys!"
How much do you think that would cost? No! Only 15 easy payments of $34.95! It slices it dice.......

Laser light pointers work, and you can get ones that take regular batteries now - that red measuring stick in the Boxed set of Warhammer works. Retractable tape measure, that's aready on the work bench in the basement works too.
MPO The person selling that and or the person buying it for too much money is the actual "Tool":D

As stated before months earlier this is a badge retractor.
And as it has been brought up last time this was for sale it is ilegal to sell it with the Heroclix name on it. I don't know if the same person who was selling them the first time is the the same person selling it now but they are in viloation of copy right laws.
This is the third time these have come up for sale on E-bay.

I use a piece of elastic. It stretches as far as I need it to stretch. Just move the figures from their squares and center the ends. We will be playing in a tournament and someone will ask, "Where's the LoF string?" and everyone knows exactly what they are asking for. The players will borrow it and they always return it. It works great. The funny thing is, I have given out several pieces to various players, and yet they always borrow mine because they know I have it.

That does help Oldguynewbie. I was really curious has to how often LOF causes an interruption in a game. Like I said, this is my first tournament. All of my clix exposure so far has been with my internet friends playing on an Excell spreadsheet we developed. I went to a demo earlier this week to get the feel for live play and it seemed like fun so I plan on going back tonight for the actual tournament.

falcarrion, I wondered about that. This is just one of 5 auctions for the same tool. He uses the same picture showing the word Heroclix on the item but he also advertises them as being for MageKnight and MechWarrior. Plus one of the auctions has the title of Unique LE Heroclix. That's how I stumbled across it to begin with. No mention of being a 'tool' in the title description.

Heroclix Fanatics has 10", 12", and 14" printable range finders in PDF format, that you can use. They're pretty neat and look professional.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to them in here, but let me know and I'll provide a link if necessary.
This gives me a great idea....and I use the word "great" loosely. I personally use an elastic string I cut off of my son's new shoes. It balls up nicely and it works like the retractable doohickie, but for free. The problem is going through the "center" of the attacking and destination square....you still have to eyeball that. What if I staple the string to two of the special tokens. Then, I just need to put the tokens down and voila!
My wife is going REALLY think I've lost it tonight.....:D
you can also use contractors snap line without the chalk, you can pick one up in Home Depot.
