A scenario came up in a game I played the other night, involving these powers/rules:
Using objects in ranged combat attacks.
A character holding an object can throw it at a single opposing character,
as shown in Figure 18; a character holding an object does not have to
attack with the object when given a ranged combat action. To throw an
object, give the character a ranged combat action, even if its range value
is 0. Regardless of the attacker’s range, light objects can be thrown 8
squares; heavy objects, 6 squares. Regardless of the attacker’s damage value, a successful ranged combat attack with a light object deals 2 damage; a heavy object, 3 damage.
SHAPE CHANGE (NON-OPTIONAL) When this character is chosen as the target of an attack, roll a d6. On a result of 5 or 6, the attack can’t be made. The attacker must choose another target or be given a different non-free action.
Scenario: Aquaman, with Super Strength, has heavy object and is 4 squares away from Plastic Man, who has Shape Change. Aquaman declares he is going to make a ranged attack against Plastic Man with the heavy object. Plastic Man rolls for Shape Change, gets a 6 and so the attack can't be made. Aquaman has no other targets within his range of 6 with the heavy object.
Question: Since the attack can't be made, does the Heavy Object get destroyed?
It's been a while since I've played, actually, so my rulemongering is a little rusty. Honestly, I can't even remember, after the successful Shape Change roll, if Aquaman can then chose to take a move action.
I appreciate any help/clarification provided.
