I was playing a game last night and the game ended when I landed a critical hit while using RCE. I wasn't entirely sure about the ruling (even though that roll won the game for me).
My character normally did 1 click of damage. So I added 2 clicks of additional damage for my successful RCE attack as well as 1 more click for my critical hit. Was I correct in dealing 4 clicks to my opponent?

Yes, you were correct!

Specifically, RCE adds +2 to your damage value (so in this situation, you'd have a damage value of 3 when the character is given a power action to make a single targetted ranged combat attack).
Critical hits add +1 to damage dealt. This brings to total damage dealt (before any damage reducers the target may have had) to 4 (3 damage value +1 damage dealt).
The reasons this distinction is important is because damage values are capped by the Rule of 3, but damage dealt is not. So you could have thrown some Perplex on top of the RCE (raising the total damage value to 4, effectively), then rolled a critical hit to bring the total damage dealt to 5 (4 damage value +1 damage dealt).
I know this goes beyond your original question, but it is worth mentioning.

thanks for the explanation, normal. that totally makes sense, and that's a great point for you to make (as well as something i didn't realize). I'm still grasping the order of things as well as verbiage within the game. rep coming your way!
