A while ago we had another musical showdown that featured songs with the same name but different writers/performers. They were one-offs and not done in conjunction with the Rock Wars. Please listen to all the songs, even the ones that you haven't necessarily heard before and then pick your favorites. Some songs may only have two competitors and some may have as many as four or five or even six. I'll try to weed out the pretenders from the contenders.

Our sixteenth match-up is SOMEBODY TO LOVE.

As usual, there are a lot of songs on this one, but this will make for a nice time killer while you're working or blogging or whatever it is you do. Just sit back and listen. Give each song a chance, then decide.

Bobby Darin (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypjzf2MK44g)
Vs.
Nelly Furtado (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOWt0gZFzkA)
Vs.
Jefferson Airplane (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIkoSPqjaU4)
VS.
Leighton Meester (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQHxvLgKCW0)
Vs.
Queen (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxbFLYa0_bw)

In the immortal words of DTM - "So what say you all." Who will be the winner in this latest match-up of Same Name/Different Song? Rank the songs from favorite to least favorite as there'll be a points system to decide winners & losers. Also, if you like, put in comments about the songs - good or bad, it's all cool.

As always, if you have suggestions for future match-ups please list those in your reply.

1) Jefferson Airplane.

2) Bobby Darin. Maybe I shouldn't do this, but I think with a cleaner recording, it is a better song than...

3) Queen. Not even close to being my favorite Queen song, but certainly better than...

4) Nelly Furtado. Who I thought was a shoe-in for last place until I heard...

5) Leighton Meester.

1. Jefferson Airplane

2. Queen

3. Bobby Darin
4. Leighton Meester
4. Nelly Furtado

The gaps are to show the difference in how much more I like each song.

Let's rank 'em!

Jefferson Airplane (Ah, back when they were making music and not suing each other over the rights to the band's name.)
Queen ("Just okay" Queen is still better than most other choices.)
Bobby Darin (That's some mono...)
Leighton Meester (And yet it still sounds better than the unholy Auto-Tuned union of the child of dad from Growing Pains and the chick from Gossip Girl.)
Nelly Furtado (It's still playing, and already it's kind of forgettable.)

Jefferson Airplane - Darby Slick wrote this pre Jefferson Airplane and I'm grateful the JA resurrected this one from The Great Society (Grace's band in the mid 60s)

Queen - Freddie's just so talented

Bobby Darin - Not everything can be Mack the Knife

Nelly Furtado - meh

Leighton Meester - meh times 2

1. Queen (Another great Queen song, which I think Ill vote as #1 just to help even it out with the equally great JA tune here)
2. Jefferson Airplane (Very cool song - wouldnt have nominated it for RW13 if I didnt think so)
3. Bobby Darin (eh, OK, nothing special really)
4. Nelly Furtado (eh, another OK, nothing special, for me)
5. Leighton Meester (yeah, this is blah to me)

Of course you can play.
Why wouldn't you be allowed to play?

You have certainly posted enough to be considered a real person and not the alter-ego of someone that just wants to stuff the ballot box.

Looks down there. Definitely not, Kiwigirl.

Thanks for the invite btw---this one has potential, almost as much as the 50s/60s one (which is soooo making me revisit those).
