All right, guys and gals, you know the drill. All discussion of this week's Golden Avenger preview should stick to this thread just like the Psylocke and Spider-Man discussions.
The game designers gave us tons to talk about, so have at it!

I'm obviously in heaven.
I think RS and RCE are perfect. Iron man does a low power moving shot as well as a stationary big blast. The way they rainbowed the dial stayed very true to his character. the differences between his rookie and veteran sound perfect.
It's a dream come true.
The sculpt looks great.

I like it, it's shiny. Ooooo shiny. *heads toward the light*
The figure looks great, and the discription of the powers sounds very fitting. Can anyone make out the points? It could be 10?, 16?, or 18?
Cool.... now if they can just make an AA version of Iron man(all perplex, low attack values low defense values, low everything except...... melodrama. lots and lots and lots and lots!!! of melodrama. sorry, just having a 20 year Iron Man flashback....
I like the base.... whatcha wanna bet the Mandarin is his Arch-enemy.
I'm not a big Iron Man fan, but the following quote is my favorite of the whole release.
I’d like to include other versions of the armor in future sets, so if this Iron Man isn’t your Iron Man, be sure to check out future sets.
Future Sets, awesome! We all know that they're doing more sets, or at least /guessed/ that it was so, but to get word from the creators is soooo much better!
WTG Wizkidz, great job, and keep up the awesome work!
I am happy Iron Man is here! I wonder if he will be high points i.e. Dr. Doom or slightly above average points.

I still trying to figure this out. They named all the powers he has. There is no CCE on Iron Man why do people keep saying he has it? A Close COmbat Monster does not mean he has CCE.
I'm very impressed with him. Great sculpt, great abilities, great diversity. Great Job Wizkids.
Next Ironman - HulkBuster Armor! (Please!)

From spying the base on the Vet Iron Man, it looks like a range of 10 with two 'bolts', and a cost of 189. Anyone else get this?
If 189 is the correct cost for the Vet, that likely means the Rook will weigh in at over 100 pts, too. Ol' Tony better be a heavy-hitter given those numbers.
Sculpt is great -- no complaints there.
Also, how 'bout the golden color of the base? I'm with 'Mjolnir' on this one -- Mandarin, thy existence has been confirmed.

BIG FUNKY TIN-CAN ORIGINAL IRON MAN ARMOR!!

I have been waiting for shellhead ever since Heroclix came out, he is my FAVORITE hero of all time!!! I'm glad they picked the ole red n golds for r/e/v. Like the scuplt!! I'd gladly pop $20 for an unique version of his Armor Wars armor. Another good armor is his stealth for a cheaper armor to put into play. Hope his point cost isn't too pricey to put into games, wherever the Avengers are he's there. Glad for the array of powers, the ability to pick between running shot or RCE is nice(Repulsors/Pulse Bolts). Though toughness is weak but atleast he upgrades as he damages. As a LONGTIME fan of Stark I am very much wish March was here.
P.S. Inquest sendaway from Xplosion should be Drunken Stark from Toyfare. Battle Fury and Fury for those rages.

Iron Man does sound pretty good, I wish that in the descriptions of the figures they gave the point totals of each version and range as well.
Not much longer though until Xplosion.

If that's true and later sets will feature different armor, then the War Machine armor will most likely get the next fig. Stealth Armor would be a unique--he didn't use it very often. Cheaper, faster, but nowhere near as powerful. That's a unique (like Wolverine's Stealth model).
Ah, who cares right now? That's a great figure and it'll really help out the Avengers team (as well as an Ultimates team).

I was told that you could not use RCE or CCE with any super power. But now that it says "Iron Man starts as a powerful, but straightforward, ranged combatant with some options that make him versatile. I’ve heard how much you all love the Running Shot and Ranged Combat Expert combination,..."
I can see why cause you are not using a power to beef up the damage. So Running shot and charge are just a move action thus you can use CCE and RCE with there respected move action super powers. Am I right or wrong?
matt
TheYanger
02/13/2003, 01:48
you're wrong.
He was saying that sarcastically because wizkids gets alot of #### for making people with RS/RCE and charge/CCE.
As long as his BASE damage isn't too low, I don't see an issue though. If he's like 3 damage, and RCE (yes firelord is cheap, but considering the vet iron man appears to cost in the 190ish area, that seems very reasonable), then having both powers is still totally useful.
Spooooon!
02/13/2003, 02:47
Keep in mind that CCE has yet to appear in the Marvel version of the game. That doesn't mean it wont be added in this expansion but as of now it does not exist.
As for future versions of Iron Man in later expansions, I would love to see a unique War Machine.
TheYanger
02/13/2003, 03:31
yeah, I don't think he'll have CCE, i assume they just meant he'll have super str/invuln, good damage, etc.

Once again! Great job on the fig & the stats Wizkids!

02/13/2003, 04:26
I hope you mean the base, Warmachine doesn't look all that similar to the classic gold and reds. It looks alot closer to the gold and red 2's, but still thats alot of modding, could just as easily make it from scratch =D

Iron Man was the first comic book I ever owned and I'll say it's about time! Since then I have collected the entire run and subsequent series. He was one of the reasons I wanted to play this game when I heard about it.
I love the powers he has and agree with the logic behind them. I am so glad he gets Perplex and Outwit at some points late in his dial. That is perfect for Stark according to his comics. He costs a lot, but he is a heavy hitter for the Marvel family. Absolutely wonderful!
Other versions/possibilities:
Armor Wars- The red and silver armor looked great and would be a good REV figure.
Classic- The old grey "tin can" suit would be an excellent Unique. Less expensive and less powerful. No flight and a shorter ranged attack (no RS or RCE), but having Super Strength and Toughness.
Stealth Armor- An excellent taxi figure. High movement, high defense (like 17 and Energy Shield), with low offense. Not very expensive.
There are more, but these ones stick out to me as obvious, having read every issue. THanks Wizkids! :)

Iron Man looks fantastic. Great sculpt though IMO the eyes seem a bit big. I really hope that his low attack value as stated, makes him a bit cheaper than Thor, but I doubt this, with the vast array of powers he has.
This is the figure Ive been looking foward to the most from Xplosion, because a huge part of what I own/play is the Avengers.

Iron Man’s attack value is only slightly better than average
I hope - slightly better than average - is almost 10 or 11 !! or i want to know what is average !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!
I bet it's like 9 or 10. Have to use two Aim's or Hydra's to get him to hit any high powered guys.
I looked at the animated picture on wizkids site and it looks like vet shellhead costs 189 points....
Average humans have 7 or 8 attack
Veteran Snipers have a 9
I'd wager Iron Man is 9 or 10 and no higher than 11.
I can't see him having more than 2 base attack (he's going to start off like a cyclops who flies i think)
RS 2 damage RCE Toughness instead of energy shield
ultimatemark
02/13/2003, 11:01
Remember Things attack? He's an experienced boxer/wrestler and they gave him a fairly low attack. That scares me when I think about Iron Man's attack being "average"...
Manchine
02/13/2003, 11:02
Yep his Vet version should be 9 or 10. His other versions (rookie and Exp) will be lower accordingly.
Veggiehater
02/13/2003, 11:03
Hmmm,
Iron Man is starting to sound like a souped-up version of Blastaar... which isn't necessarily a bad thing. ;)
In any event I do hope he turns out to be on the same level of usefulness as Thor or better yet, Doom. It seems that Wizkids is starting to get a hang of producing useful high costed figs. This again is a good thing. ;)
Oh and the sculpt... well it's just Ironrific! :D

One word. Wooohooo!!!! Let's get it on! (Okay. That was three. Couldn't contain the excitement.)
I have to agree with everyone that Ironman looks and sounds awesome. I absolutely can't wait to field my Avengers team with him in it!
On the CCE thing, as Marvel does not have it yet, the designer may have just been "Not mentioning it" to keep it under wraps. Instead he alluded to it...
However, it could just be a good d, ss, etc.
I have to imagine that some of the DC only powers will be coming over in this set. Does anyone have force blast yet? because there's definitely figs in this set that would need it.
My only question at this point is - why did they preview Psylocke first? She was so d@mn ugly, it wasn't exactly starting off on the right foot. Now that we've seen Spidey and IM, I can't wait for the set. THAT'S what a preview should accomplish!!
Kirsarge
02/13/2003, 12:21
I was really hoping they'd do three different versions of the figure, like with the Invisible Girl.
Rookie - the "Iron" looking original armor used to break him out of the prison.
Experienced - The Red and Silver armor from the West Coast Avengers days.
Veteran - the cool sculpt they have now.
But if they did that, they wouldn't have as many Iron Man options for future sets.
nothing to do with the fig, but some people were talking about an Ironman movie. I found this on Comics continuum.com today:
SMALLVILLE CREATORS ON IRON MAN
Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, creators and executive producers of The WB's Smallville, have been tapped to write an Iron Man screenplay for New Line Cinema.
According to Variety, New Line is targeting Iron Man as a major release in 2005.
Gough and Millar have feature film experience. They wrote last weekend's Shanghai Knights, as well as its predecessor Shanghai Noon. The duo also did two drafts on the Spider-Man sequel.
According to Variety, Gough and Millar will start from scratch on their Iron Man story. Iron Man has been at New Line for nearly three years.
Here's a link:
http://www.comicscontinuum.com/stories/0302/13/index.htm
I'm really hoping the "slightly above average attack" is a 10. On a figure that costs 189pts. a high attack of lower than 10 is gonna be a little difficult to work around. I think the attack will do something like this:
10 9 8 9 10 9 8 7 6
High during the begining of the ranged then goes high again during the close combat clicks. If this happens he'll always have a pretty average attack with no extremely low attack, which would be useful.
Jimmy Jazz
02/13/2003, 12:58
I really think that "slightly above average" attack means 10 or 11. There are a ton of characters with 8 and 9 on their attack. So bump that by one or two and you've got the healthy 10 or 11. Makes sense.
Manchine
02/13/2003, 13:10
I did an average of all the Marvel characters and it comes to 8.96 for attack. So attack of 9 is average. Now Slightly above average would probable mean 10. Maybe 11 but more then likely 10.
Kid Zemo
02/13/2003, 13:10
Anyone wanna bet he has the Thor Team Abilities spread?
Rookie - Avengers
Experienced - none
Veteran - Avengers (obviously)

Don't forget ShapeChange as my favorite politically motivated saboteur mutant is going to need it (unfortunately) I agree that Storm should have Force Blast.

This is great, the next thing we need to see is another large base figure. Who would it be? Giant Man!! I think he should be like 75, 125, and 175 for the 3 ways you can start his dial. Then give him avengers team ability and I will be able to play the original 5 Avengers. Captain America(Okay techinically it is Hulk, but he was there for so short a time that I just skip him), Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man, and the Wasp. It is going to be hard to field Avenger teams at low level points. These guys take up massive amounts of points. Anyway go Iron Man!

Finally, someone for Blizzard to get beaten up by. I understand doing some obscures in each set, but why do them before the main hero? I agree re: Mandarin as Archenemy.

I know it really does not matter because you can pretend he is whatever identity you want, but I heard that the LE Ant man is actually the second man who portrayed Ant man, and not Hank Pym. Besides that, it is so hard to get him that playing all of them is still going to be a challenge.

He has stopped drinking a lot longer than Kyle Rayner being considered a rookie GL when Kyle been around for... around 5 years?!?

Case in point, Ironman's drinking days are way in the past unless the new writers will bring that back.

Yeah, well, it's still funny.
Tony Stark in The Ultimates is a booze hound. It's just nice to see the Playboy angle with its dark side in comics. That's why that story was so memorable...and why the joke continues to be funny.

Hope the designer of Ironman gets to read this:
I'm quite worried about the "slightly above average" attack value of Ironman.... A high cost fig with cool powers but can't hit well. Hope this is not a plan to have him accompany Kang in the collection storage area.
Here's some things that highlight Ironman's fighting prowess:
1. Targeting systems that are realy accurate:
The classic armor pinpointed stress points in the mountain range being dropped on them by the Molecule Man and he hit is right so the mountain will split off well (with help from Hawkeye)
His Silver Centurion armor showed that he shot multiple targets in three seconds flat. (if I remember right)
2. Trained by Cap
While clearly nothing in Cap's league, Tony did have knowledge of hand to hand fighting. Please refer to the Layton/Kaminski run where he fights off Hammer's goons.
3. Contest of Champions
Showed Ironman's power in defeating the Savage She-Hulk with a single repulsor blow. Guess it was well aimed to cause a knockout blow.
4. Contest of Champions II
Ironman's armor compensated against Psylocke's martial arts prowess. See how easily he dodged and how confident he was in fighting her martial arts.
Too bad Thing got gypped while She-Hulk had much better overall stats.... but here's hoping that Ironman gets at least an attack rating of 11 in his first click before going to 10s and down.
Hope there's something you can still do about it. Well, if not, I guess the excuse would be "if you don't like this Ironman version, look for more versions of him in later expansions" Smooth huh? ;) But please realize that IM fans have been waiting SO LONG already and hopefully, will not be disappointed.
I have nothing against the new Elektra and the new DD. I was reall surprised with the new Elektra though but I trust your design. Cheers and more power to you!
(P.S. I'd like to request a new Thor... an Armored Thor, a Unique Armored Thor with belt of Strength, and maybe a super LE Lord Thor. We haven't seen many Thor stuff yet... no Loki, wrecking crew, Absorbing man..., etc..... hey.. we're not as immortal as Thor)
Thanks! :D

Iron man has also decked hulk in a single punch by pushing all his reserve power out into it. He burned himself out doing it, but we're talking LAID THE HULK OUT. IE: not 'did a click of damage' but more like 'did 10 clicks of damage'

I guess it comes down to a question of game balance. I don't really know how IM is going to stack up, but he sounds versatile if not overwhelming. Think about the trouble they are going to have trying to do Silver Surfer? I mean that dude could cook Tony in his own bourbon.

I was re bagging my beloved Iron man collection (I have almost a full set of volume 1,2,3) and as I walk over to the computer and check the latest post on this thread, I read your post and glance down ....I have Ironman 132 in my hand. Yup you guessed it, the very issue you just mentioned (what are the chances?).
So if anyone is doubting what Yanger said, it's Ironman volume one issue 132 page 30.
The Hulk is knocked out cold by Ironman. The hulk was not touched by anyone else, and nothing hokey happened, it was as simple as over charging the armor and knocking out the hulk cold with one mighty blow. How many heroes in marvel can lay claim to doing that?
Also, it seems the Hulk should almost be an arch enemy of Iron man's (only half kidding) he's fought the Golden Avenger almost as much as the Mandarin!

Hey...
Since the Crimson Dynamo isn't Iron Man's arch ennemy (in this set at least) it means that we can play them together in the same team!
Hahahahaha!

i can't wait to own Iron Man. He's one of my favorites!
IM is great but give us War Machine to run along side him Stark technologies would run rampant acroos the board!
I'm a bit disappointed in how his attack kinda drops off. The rookie version has a click of Perplex? How odd.
Ya know, a unique iron man with the armor he used to fight Thor in would be pretty cool!

I am so #### jazzed about Iron Man that I could lose bladder control. All my Clix buddies in Richmond know that I have a standing offer to pay cash money for all three.
Maybe I can get some sucker to trade straight-up someone like Kang for IM... Hey, similar point value, right?;) I'll throw in Klaw. I'm so desperate I may even trade my rookie Black Manta!
