Okay guys, I know that ya'll are working overtime but:

Strongest of All Rock trolls: Damage dealt to Ulik is reduced to 1. This power cannot be countered or ignored.

I want to understand if Psychic blast and Exploit weakness go through. (As it doesn't go through for SI Benjamin Grimm) Just trying to get an understanding and I guess this can't be countered means for outwit and can't be ignored is for when you try to Mind control him and turn the power off.

penetrating damage: Damage that can’t be reduced by powers that reduce damage dealt.

Is "Strongest of All Rock Trolls" a power? (yes)

Does it reduce damage? (indeed, down to 1)


Therefore penetrating damage can not be reduced by "Strongest of All Rock Trolls."

As you surmise, the wording of that power prevents Outwit (and anything else that might actually counter like Chase Spider-Woman's SP) or ignore it (like by Pulse Wave).

FYI, penetrating damage doesn't work on Ben Grimm because his damage reduction comes from a trait (which is not a power).

There is no countering or ignoring of the power with penetrating damage.

BTW, you are correct on what countered means, but for the ignoring, you are incorrect. Turning off the power is canceling it. Ignoring it is what Pulse Wave does.

Well, let's see...

PSYCHIC BLAST Give this character a ranged combat action. Damage from the attack is penetrating damage.

EXPLOIT WEAKNESS Give this character a close combat action. Damage from the attack is penetrating damage.

And, the rulebook says...

penetrating damage: Damage that can’t be reduced by powers that reduce damage dealt.

So those attacks would go through. Sort of like FCBD Iron Man's power wouldn't reduce them either.
