View Full Version : 1st DC tourney Sat., need feedback on team
This Saturday, I'm going to be playing in my first DC Heroclix head-to-head tournament. It will be a 300-point game. This is the team I've put together, and I'd really like some feedback on it:
Rookie Nightwing (42 pts) - I chose him because he has decent fighting skills and leadership.
Enhanced Dove (51 pts) - Besides being a taxi, she has the CCE ability that I thought might come in handy.
Enhanced Brainiac 13 (122 pts) - I know, I'm putting a lot of eggs in one basket here. Going on the advice of the description in the Figure Gallery, I plan to keep him at a relative distance and use his ranged attack, including and especially his Psychic Blast.
Veteran Man-Bat (31 pts) - Another taxi, plus the charge ability on his first click. I'm figuring to keep him soaring until and unless he has to drop someone off, and then put him close enough that the space to drop him to hover can act as part of his charge.
Desaad (47 pts) - Mostly plan to keep him close to Brainiac and use his Outwit and Energy explosion and, if he gets low enough, his Support. (Question: Can you outwit someone else's Outwit?)
Rookie Lackey (7 pts) - Mostly to fill up the point total.
I know some of these are awfully weak, and, until and unless Desaad gets knocked down several clicks, I have no healer. So I'm open to any suggestions on alternatives.
Greetings,
Firstly, yes you can outwit someone else's outwit (and it annoys the heck out of them too).
Secondly, your team; For a 300 point tourney you have six figures, at 3 actions a turn you never really need leadership unless you're looking to push somebody. Thus I almost feel as though you're wasting points on Nightwing's leadership. For the points you could drop him and the Lackey (who is really a glorified piece of moving blocking terrain) and put in a R Solomon Grundy for 48 points. He has excellent attack values, solid damage (3 on one click to start) and a pile of toughness to keep him standing far longer then either Nightwing or the Lackey could hope for. Pair him with Dove and have her fly him in to create an immediate problem that might distract him from everything Brainiac is up to (ie. destroying him while he's distracted by Dove and Solomon) Even if he chooses to gang rush Brainiac for the points that will leave Dove and Solomon free to wreck havoc where they choose.
Also, just as a thought, as long as you're paying for that Superman team ability you might want to swap out Desaad for an Intergang medic and use some of the extra points to upgrade someone else. With Brainiac ferrying around an Intergang he gets an inante Outwit (that, by the by, can't be outwitted). The only drawback to this plan is that he can't outwit and then also use RCE (thus you'd want to outwit after your attack, taking away offensive powers, ect.)
As a third option, drop the Intergang Medic to a R Intergang agent and bring in an E Harley Quinn for her perplexing expertise. She becomes a small ranged nuiscance that can boost and aid Solomon, Man Bat, or Brainiac (wait till he's down to psychic blast, then boost his damage and do 2 points of damage that cuts through defensive powers, hah!)
Just some ideas to consider and get your creative juices going. Remember you're sinking a lot of points into him to play Brainiac, work the big lug hard to make him worth the points and good luck.
Thor.
Only thing is, for this to work, I'd have to substitute Rookie Man-Bat for the Veteran, and then I'd lose a taxi. And I'm not sure if I want to go in with NO healer.

Just a slight correction to your post...the SupEn outwit can, in fact be outwitted. The SupEn power grants a figure the POWER outwit, which, in turn, can be outwitted by your opponent. The other problem with the SupEn outwit is that as soon as you're seperated you'll lose your outwit.
That being said I agree that you need some intergang. You've got an expensive SupEn character on your team, and SupEn is an awesome power, so why not take advantage of it? Two Intergang agents at 18 points each can give you two more outwits if you place them Brainiac, Intergang, Intergang. First Intergang grants Brainiac an outwit, and second Intergang grants Intergang an outwit. Plus, each takes three clicks to kill, so that's six extra clicks of outwit.
Just remember that if you go against a Nightwing/Batman combo, all the outwit in the world isn't gonna do you any good, because you need Line of Fire and can't outwit someone with the Batman ability in hindering terrain. Think ahead of time how you're going to deal with Batman, Robin, Huntress and Nightwing. You've only got one close-combater (you can't hit bat team with ranged attacks) in dove, and it's more than likely that her CCE and toughness/super senses are gonna get outwit to take her down quickly.
Finally, don't under-estimate, but also don't count, on Desaad. His best healing click is at a "6", which is pretty weak, and there's no great chance he'll end up on that click, anyway. Don't count on using a medic, instead press the attack. If you see an opportunity, and Desaad happens to be ready and able to heal, go for it, but don't base your strategy on it. More important is Desaad's Energy Explosion. Hit Batman's taxi and you get Batman, too, even if he's in hindering. Hit Doomsday's taxi and you get Doomsday, too, even if Doomsday has impervious. You'll annoy your opponent to the point where he'll waste actions going after Desaad, likely putting him on his support clicks. Use this time to get the rest of your team in striking distance.
Generally I agree with Thor that Nightwing is your weakest figure, and there's cheaper leadership to be found elsewhere. I wouldn't dump Desaad, but maybe dump Nightwing and the lackey for rookie Aquaman and a 22 point intergang agent. Then you keep the leadership, gain a close-combat bruiser to use against Batman (albeit one that goes down fast), and gain an extra outwit.
Heroclix?

Some pointers--
HeroClix IS NOT MageKnight. If you can avoid using useless fillers (Thugs, Lackeys, etc.) DO SO!! You lose points that you could use to increase your power.
Onto the dissection of your team:
R Nightwing-
Not that good of a fig. The E and V versions have Outwit, which is MUCH better than the Leadership that the R gives you. In fact, most people on these boards will tell you that, aside from the obvious lack of Willpower, the V Nightwing is BETTER than Batman.
E Dove-
You picked out a good 'un. As with Nightwing, only the E and V versions of Dove are worth playing. You choose what you want- toughness to SS or just straight SS?
E Brainiac-
NO. I'll repeat that: NO! You will NEVER be using Psychic Blast, especially since you have an Outwitter on your team. Unless you happen to be fighting Darkseid (in 300 points, he costs 1/2 the biuld total. Not the most wanted option, but MAN is he good). That said, save the 122 points and get 2 better figs.
V Man-Bat-
Just so you know, you CANNOT keep carrying a fig when its not your turn. When you pick up a fig, you need to drop them off, IN HOVER MODE, by the end of your move. I know, the soaring rules suck, but I didn't make them, and unless the place you're going to has some house rules that modifys that, you're stuck. NEVER soar. It's useless in most cases.
Desaad-
A pretty good support Outwitter, nothing more.
R Lackey-
As I said before, NO!
Here's what I'd do (beware, it calls for a MASSIVE overhaul!)
0 points left as is.
Remove E Brainiac 13 (122 points left)
Upgrade Nightwing to V (92 points left)
Remove R Lackey (99 points left)
Add E Checkmate Medic (82 points left)
Add R Hawkman (50 points left)
Add V T.O. Morrow (22 points left)
Add V Robin (0 points left)
The final team is:
V Nightwing (stealth, 8range/2 targets/outwit, 3 dmg. ALL GOOD!)
E Dove (taxi, good turn 2 push, tough, high defense for DC)
V Man-Bat (5 charge/10 move, taxi)
U Desaad (more outwit, EE, 8 range)
R Hawkman (free move/taxi, 10 move/charge)
V T.O. Morrow (more long range support/RCE)
V Robin (cheap/stealth, makes clouds for Nightwing)
E Checkmate Medic (for much needed healing)
Or you can use the team I have used in almost ALL my 300-pt. DC tournys (always get in top 2 with it)-
E Batman
E Plastic Man
V Man-Bat
V Booster Gold
R Hawkman
V Huntress
E Checkmate Medic
about r nightwing. i would use a v aquaman instead because he does 3 clix has super strengh and ledership.

If you have all three of them try using both Veteran and experienced T.O. Morrow. the ranged combat expert alone will be able to paste pretty much anyone who comes within your range. Also keep a checkmate medic(or two or three lol) handy. if you can get your hands on the LE of this figure DO SO!!! it'll help you out BIGTIME.. So much damage being thrown it's hillarious... Shades....

i dont know what herocix? and everyone else is saying. leadership can be the difference between life and discarded plastic. in a 300 point game why not have 4 moves ? better yet try out a jla team that can all move for free so no matter where batman is hiding you can find him with exp flash.. want batman to see a real dark night? try vet batman taxied by exp steel. the vet doombot will add leadership to this team of movers and allow you to cover the board fast the doombot can use the jla ability to move so your entire team can start off way back from the enemy and make it to them in a turn no matter where they attempt to hide.
