View Full Version : Am I missing something?
I like my Ragnarok Surtur (though I wish I had some HoT figures to keep him company), but I noticed a peculiar thing on his fifth click: namely, that he has both B/C/F and CCE.
I can't figure out why this is. CCE gives him a potential 5 damage, B/C/F gives him a potential 6. That's a negligable difference, so why print the dial that way? I originally thought that it might be so the opponent has to Outwit two damage powers, but then I realized that his TA keeps him from being Outwitted anyway. So basically he has two fundamentally incompatible powers for no real reason that I can see.
Am I missing something? Or is this just an odd misstep for an otherwise solidly-designed set?

Valkrie (the SR) has B/C/F and 4 damage on 2 clicks. I'm generally hard-pressed to pick B/C/F over a guaranteed 3 damage if I'm not desperate, so I can't see me picking the lotto over a guaranteed 4 either.

One big one is potential prerequistes for feats.
Another is that Power Cosmic is not bullet proof. One Disbanded! BFC and he can be Outwitted.
Or he can be hit with Outsiders TA. Now powers, like CCE, can't modify his combat values... but BCF is a replacement value not a modifier.
I am sure I could come up with more, but that is just off the top of my head. Plus, it is only on one click where these powers overlap; does it really matter that much?

So basically there's no mechanical reason I'm missing - it was just sort of a poor design choice (I shouldn't say poor, but at least one that most players won't use).

Not really, no. This was just more out of curiosity - I'm not really good at picking out the "powergaming" aspects of Heroclix, so I was wondering if there was some esoteric strategy I was missing out on.
Your other reasons make a lot of sense, so I am happy.

On top of that, I can envision a situation where it's down to the wire and you know that 6 clicks will KO a figure while 5 will not... if you think this is your last attack you go for the BCF and hope for a 6. It won't come up very often but it could be the difference in a win or a loss. Really though I imagine it's just there to give him options.

That makes sense too, and I hadn't really thought about it. While I'll probably stick to the guaranteed 5 damage for the most part, having the option is definitely nice.

Then you roll a crit hit and roll a 1 on the BCF
