Okay boys and girls, here we have 128 Classic Songs from the 50's and 60's, from some of our Favorite Musical Acts, which will be pitted against one another, Match by Match, Round by Round, weeding them all out until they get to the FINAL MATCH, which will have our two favorite 50s/60s songs face against one another to see which one emerges as Grand Champion of our latest Rock Wars!

As always, this TOC should be voted using a very simple criteria, which song do YOU like more, which do YOU feel you would rather listen to, and which would YOU say is ultimately more deserving to move on. Nothing to do with Classic or not, this is based on personal preference, YOURS. :)

Pretty basic really. Songs are matched up, you all vote on the one you like more, the winner goes to the Next Round, and we do this over and over again until the Rounds are Over. I do ask that you all give objective opinions and votes here, listening to All songs and arguments here within this TOC with an open mind, beginning to end, and base your honest votes from that.

I know we all believe we know all of these songs already, but as always I ask that you please listen to them again with each new match before voting. Thanks all. :)

So without further adieu, why dont we get started with the Next of Many matches to come, in HCRs latest Rock Wars, Favorite 50s / 60s Song!

I now give you:

RIVER DEEP, MOUNTAIN HIGH
(Ike & Tina Turner) (http://classes.berklee.edu/mfarquharson/CW275/CW275%20Project%202%20MP3/Phil%20Spector/Tina%20Turner%20-%20River%20Deep,%20Mountain%20High.mp3)

vs.

I HEARD IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
(Marvin Gaye) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hajBdDM2qdg)

So what say you all. Which of these songs will move onto the Next Round, and which will fade away back to the time they came?

Marvin Gaye, one of the greatest singers ever. Much as I love that version of River Deep, gotta go with the man on this one.

Worthy song of Ike and Tina's but how can anyone deny Marvin Gaye's "I Heard It Through the Grapevine?". Grapevine for me for an easy choice.

"River Deep and Mountain High" is my favorite Ike & Tina song but it still can't match "I Heard It Through The Grapevine". I love that song whether Marvin, Creedence or Gladys Knight do it.

River Deep is a great song, but that start to Grapevine is greater still.

I Heard it through the Grapevine gets my vote.

Ah, the pinnacle of Spector's Wall of Sound technique. And boy howdy, did it flop in the US in the late '60s. Based on the voting trends so far, some things never change. Still, it's my nominee and I'll back it. "River Deep, Mountain High" to advance.

I heard it through the grapevine is my favorite of the two.

I still like CCR's version better, but Marvin Gaye's vocals are better than John Fogerty.
