Does AP make the damage from Damage Shield irreducible?

I've heard it stated that it's the feat (and not the character) doing the damage and thus AP does not apply. That never made sense to me, but then again, many official rulings do not.

I didn't see anything in the player's guide about this.

Armor Piercing
Choose a character.

Damage dealt by the character may not be reduced below 1.

Damage Shield
Prerequisites: Close Combat Expert, Combat Reflexes, Energy Shield/Deflection, Flurry, Hypersonic Speed, Impervious, Invulnerability, or Poison

Choose a character.

When the character is the target of a successful close combat attack, the attacker is dealt 1 damage after the attack resolves.

It's the character dealing the damage.
Perfectly valid combo.

Better yet it is the character's power that is dealing the damage. So yes it is a valid combo.

That's how I take it, too, but I was wondering if it had ever been ruled.

I've never seen it disallowed, at least.

Beyond what the others have said, seeing as how that combo has been used since Legacy was release, we'd have had plenty of time to hear otherwise.

I agree that it's a legal combo, but I wouldn't use that to convince people.

Weirder things have happened. How many years did we go before we finally had a ruling that "Oh yeah btw... things in the same square aren't adjacent to each other. Sorry that took so long. Our Bad"

IIRC we got a ruling that an object in the same square was considered adjacent when Armor Wars was released.
It was only around Mutations and Monsters, when certain powers started making a difference between adjacent and occupied squares, that the ruling was reversed.

Damage Shield + Armor Piercing + DC Ares makes him one bad god...base everyone you can with him and make them swing at you.

Then again Damage Shield + Armor Piercing + Thunderbolts to Arachnos + Thor & Loki duo = pure nastiness.
