I ran a 500-point team the other night - Ragnarok Surtur with seven Fire Demons. Rather than go for the full eight possible Fire Demons, I put feats Shellhead, Inside Information, and Armor Piercing on Surtur.I think the best word to sum up this team is RELENTLESS. With five possible actions, I was making 4-5 attacks every turn. Two opponents fell easily to this team, but Thor & Loki duo figure was murder on the team. The combo was knocking out two Fire Demons at a time, and my opponent was successful with her Shape Change roll the first three times Surtur got close enough to attack. My team eventually fell, though I should have won and likely would have if not for two things:

1. I did not make good use of my Inside Information feat. I had just acquired it the day before the tournament and forgot to use it most of the game.

2. Disbanded was in play, which helped Surtur avoid Mystics damage, but forced him to take a click of push damage several times. Ideally, when running a swarm team like this (or any swarm team) against a team with a small number of characters on it, you'd want to run the BFC Blood Curse from the BPRD set. Running this, your opponent would have a 50/50 chance of incurring damage every time they knock out one of your little figures.

I plan to run this team again, at some point, and I think I'll fare better the next time. My biggest fear would be facing a character with a (Nova Blast) Pulse Wave before I could close in on him.

Did you let the Fire Demons use their minion power?
Not all people do...

Absolutely. My opponents had to deal with Fire Demons constantly charging in to attack. Against most foes this is bound to be pretty devastating. The Fire Demons may be able to deal damage effeciently, but they do have a glass jaw. With no damage reducers and only four clicks on their dial, you need to have them swarm in (four at once will knock out most opposing characters) and get the job done quickly. Quake and Poison attacks take them down FDs pretty quickly.

well, obviously the team does better when the Demons are allowed to use Charge. More powers is always better. :)

Make sure to check with your local judge what goes at your venue though.

I ran a 500 pt team of Surtar/Kurse/Fire-demons x5 Sat.

1) Each fire-demon had armor piercing.
2) Kurse was there really just to provide the opponnent a threatning fig to focus on other than my demons. Left alone Kurse is pretty good - but the FDs? Those are the workhorses of this team. So any attacks Kurse could draw off from them really helped. Oh, and I just wanted to use this fig....
3) Surtar? My dice don't like this guy. So, though essential to the team, much like Kurse, he simply served as a giant potential threat. He landed but 1 successfull BCF blow - and proceeded to roll a 1. Against someone with toughnes. Yay. But he was very usefull in boosting the fire-demons!
