Lets take a look at things shall we
Exibit A
Q: Can you tell us about the the next few releases?
Thor’s Mighty Chariot – gets pulled into hobby stores by a pair of Asgardian goats on January 13th
The Brave and the Bold will hit shelves in March 2010 – The Duo sculpts look really good
The new DC Starter hits in May 2010 – Our most colorful take on a starter to date
Our 14th Marvel release will street in June 2010
Does my imagination have the best of me or are we looking at street level clixs in June. IE streets of NYC kinda theme. Spidey level stuff.
Just a thought I had but sure seems logical for NECA to land the big guy for their "first set".

I hope you're right. I need me a new Mysterio, front-loaded with Perplex and Poison/Smokecloud SP, ala Nightshade.
I don't think Turdburglar would be opposed to the idea either.

12/17/2009, 23:10
Minion Powers would work great with Mysterio. We could have a 100 point rare Mysterio unique and a 30 point common Mysterio Illusion with a Minion Power that let it take damage for adjacent characters named Mysterio kind of like JL Superman's special power. That would be a really cool way to represent him making a bunch of fake copies of himself and Spider Man having to kill all of the fakes before he can get to the original.

yea, an updatedish version of Sinister would be awesome

I think you're reading a whole lot of something out of nothing here son. It will be a X-Men themed set I think. Heavy Iron Man sub-theme due to his movie coming out right before then.
Maybe when Spider-Man 4 hits the movie screens, we'll see a Spidey set, but not till then I think.

12/18/2009, 01:26
I don't know if what you pointed out indicates anything. I'd lean more towards a Dark Reign based set.
But if it is a street-level set, it would be good to have it more Gang War themed. This would cover Daredevil, Spidey, and the Punisher.
The set after that NEEDS to be Mutant based, so we can get the rest of the Marauders, Harry Leland, Magneto, Pyro, Toad, Avalanche, Mystique, Blob, Crimson Commando, Super Sabre, Stonewall, Exodus, and Mammomax.
Then I can RIP! :)
Dark Reign/Dark avengers would be sweet. Maybe a few updated Spiderman clix too.

more spidey villains are definitely needed. and mysterio minions would kick ###

Going with Siege. With multiple versions of Norman Osbourne, remakes of Doom, Hood, Namor, Emma Frost, Taskmaster and brand new Eternity, Wasp and Wolverine (Daken).

I too would love to see a Mysterio that encourages using multiple of him, both with the new version and with the original Sinister incarnation.

Before HoT I would have said that a street-level hero set is badly needed, so that we could get Cap, Daredevil, Diamondback, Black Widow, White Tiger, Lady Bullseye, Kingpin, etc.
But Fisk, Cap and DD are all in the Thor set.
So now I think what we need is a Spider-Man set. There's lots of great old and new Spidey villains needed, and a new Black Cat is waay overdue.
But what we will get is different, like maddragon said, Wizkids will probably wait for a Spider-Man movie release and that's when they'll put Spider-Man on the boxes.
So my bet for the next marvel set is an Iron Man theme. War Machine, Ultimo, Stane, Madame Masque, and a bunch of Dark Reign stuff, is what I'm thinking. It might be too early for Skaar, but Daken, Iron Patriot, HAMMER agents, are all possible.

Are you just bolding random words?
Why would a hint about teh next DC set tell you anything about the next Marvel set?
What the hell are you trying to say when you suggest that "colorful" implies "street"?
I don't care what the theme is, as long as there is a comic-accurate Nova Prime in there! I guess we're long overdue for another War Machine, too.

I have. Even with just the Sinister Mysterio lineup. Even posted a thread about the idea (http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showthread.php?t=255730) earlier this year. Sadly, I've yet to collect enough Mysterios to make the idea possible (I only have a single rookie! :(), and I've yet to see any sign that there are enough of them in total at my venue.

I'm hoping for Dark Reign/Siege theme with Iron Patriot and Bucky Cap.
I think that if they were going to do a street-themed set, it would have been better to not put Daredevil, Kingpin, and M-11 in HOT. However, with all of the discontinuity of ownership and plans, etc., nothing would surprise me. Also, those figs could all be rares in the next set, which might make sense.
What I do see them doing are lots more tie-ins to what's going on at the time -- CB events and/or movie releases. I'm certain it must help their sales for both comics, HC boosters, and movie tickets, if they are tied together. So our best clue would seem to be that the set comes out in June 2010. If you can figure out what summer event Marvel has planned for 2010, you've probably got your basic set theme right there.;)
Came across this article below, don't think this is correct, but what if it were a female character-themed set? The Women of Marvel

Okay wiseguy here you go. Hits was not the hint colors was
Hits was used again with the known dc brave and bold
gets pulled was used with the chariot. And i'll spell that one out for you a chariot is pulled usually by an animal :)
So does street mean anything is he sending a signal? I dont know but its fun to guess. but if not why not use hits again.
For me, I want rumors in the rumors section, and based on something.
This is just general discussion and pure speculation.

has nothing to do with Spidey. Nothing.
Hits (which, in case you didn't notice, you bolded twice), animals, street, and colors, randomly chosen from an unrelated info note. Hmmm.

I think people are misinterpreting the bolded parts.
He bolded the word hits because it was used for released twice, but not the last time. As was pulled, a word used in obvious relation to the chariot. Colorful was a pretty obvious hint and has many speculating. Street, was the last word used for releases/released, and seems a bit odd by itself. Hits the streets would have been fine, but simply saying streets, while looking at the rest of the posts is suspicious as a possible hint. Particularly as Justin has hinted at things in the past.
EDIT: I think they should make a set called Powerbomb. (Anyone wondering why hasn't been on the forums long. Do a search.)
I am for the mix bag of spidey/muties set....
Me too.
Love the Mysterio/illusions idea, that's awesome. I wouldn't mind a new Sandman and/or Lizard, either, maybe Carnage. Definitely time for Chameleon.
We definitely need some X-men/brotherhood as well - there's no excuse for not having at least a couple in every set. Remakes of Rogue, Cannonball, Mystique and most of the brotherhood are desperately needed.

If my preference counted, the next Marvel set would either be Dark Reign or Midnight Sons. Whatever the case ends up being, there has to be a new Wolverine. It's shameful that we haven't gotten one in so long.
I wouldn't mind a new Sandman
we really need a remake of this guy.
Oh, this is fun! Let me try!

Clearly, a Nextwave collector's set is in our future.
(Oh, if it were only so easy...)
Seriously, though, a street-level set makes as much sense as anything but I think that this is a bit spurious at best. Still, you get credit (and rep) for trying.

i have been waiting for a blackcat remake since the sinister set, i mean, come on! new carnage sounds good too. they should throw dead pool in there for fun with the spidey team symbol. now that would be sweet.
I think it will be based around famous adresses in the Marvel Universe 4Freedoms Plaza, Stark Industries, Yancy Street, The Baxter Building, Hell's Kitchen, Avenger's Mansion, Shield Helicarrier and The Xavier Institute. So look for sculpts based around those land marks and a real cross section of the Marvel Universe with regards to figures.

Well, here's a list of all the Marvel sets and their themes and most sub-themes (let me know what's missing):
Infinity Challenge: Avengers, X-Men
Clobberin' Time: Fantastic 4
Xplosion: X-Men
Critical Mass: Marvel space?
Universe: reprint
Ultimates: Ultimates, Ultimate X-Men
Mutant Mayhem: X-Men, Alpha Flight
Fantastic Forces: Fantastic 4
Armor Wars: Iron Man, House of M
Sinister: Spider-Man
Supernova: Marvel space (Annihilation?), Guardians of the Galaxy
Avengers: Avengers, Ultimates
Mutations & Monsters: X-Men, Hulk, Zombies, Age of Apocalypse
Secret Invasion: Secret Invasion & Skrulls, Avengers, Power Pack
Hammer of Thor: Thor & Asgardians, Guardians of the Galaxy, Runaways, Thunderbolts, Agents of Atlas
Danger Room: X-Men
Days of Future Past: X-Men, Days of Future Past
2099: 2099
Sentinel: X-Men
Galactus: Galactus
Fin Fang Foom: Marvel monsters
Thor's Mighty Chariot: Thor
Marvel Classic Battle Packs: Spider-Man, Fantastic 4
What's missing from the above list of themes (bolded are most glaring omissions)?
Marvel mystical (Dr. Strange and more)
Marvel monsters (true Marvel monsters)
Marvel horror
Maximum Carnage
Secret Wars 1 & 2
What If?
Dark Reign (Dark Avengers, Dark X-Men)
War of Kings
Onslaught
Heroes Reborn
Marvel Knights
Contest of Champions
Secret War
1940's era Invaders, Captain America, Namor, etc.
more Ultimate Universe
more 2099
more Zombies
Midnight Sons
But for all intensive purposes, I would lean towards the next set being:
Marvel Knights or Dark Reign but I would be most pleased with
Maximum Carnage or What If?
Actually, the Avengers set did have a subset of Invaders with Union Jack, Spitfire, Thin Man, Blazing Skull, Red Skull, Bucky, Toro and Cap and Bucky.
Seems that to do a theme based on the newest hotest stuff would be to do something with Dark Reign and/or Siege (though the Asgardian side of things is already well covered), with some kind of Iron Man subset.
I'm not sure that Wizkids has their launches well coordinated with Marvel events/movies/publicity though.

no kidding. was that so hard to see? besides, i'd like to get a little excited about the possibility of a clue, no matter how ridiculous it seems, than no clue at all.
if true, there are an infinite number of 'street-level' villains out there in all aspects and themes of the Marvel universe. Street-level Spiderman villains, X-men villains, Dark Reign villains, Avengers villains and on.
after the high point cost figs in HoT, a low-medium cost fig set can probably be expected.
bring on the Marauders!

I'm more looking at the "Most Colorful starter to date"....maybe a Yellow character, a green character, a violet, red, blue...Blackest Night GL starter???
as for the next marvel set. X-Men and a Spidey Sub...Mut and Mon did have some X-men, but it was really random. . .the AoA was random...i mean if you've got Jean, you should have Wolverine (they were lovers...) maybe instead of ANY 616 X-men, it should have been Hulk with sub theme of AoA.

I was thinking Spider-Man for a starter, but here's the problem with Spider-Man. His rogue's gallery is unpopular. Outside Norman Osborne and Venom, I don't know if his enemies have enough "pop" to sell a starter like Doom did for FF starter. Also, his allies are pretty limited. DD has been done recently and Black Cat is (currently) not the most popular. So I think that we will not see Spider-Man as a starter set, but part of the new marvel release.
If there is a Spider-Man in the starter, he will be part of a New Avengers starter pack with Wolverine, Cage, Bucky Barnes.
I think an X-men themed set (w/Spider sub theme) would be great! We need new iterations of Juggernaut, Phoenix, Sentinels, and of course, X-men that are more competitive.

Before Topps closed Wizkids in November of 2008, they had announced that the next Marvel set would be based on Marvels 70th anniversary.
They may as well stick to that plan, it allows them to pick any figure from any point in time.
This is a fine opportunity to fill in missing team members, upgrade figures that were never done right to begin with and toss in figures that we never thought that we would see.

110% RIGHT. I'd like to see a 70th ann. set. It gives NECA a chance to redo some guys that need to be redone, and hopefully give Neca a chance to do some fanboy faves (Slapstick? PLEASE!). Don't forget Toad, Blob, Magneto, Sabretooth, and all those Brotherhooders came out in the 60's and 70's. Dracula has been out for a loooong time. If Drac gets done we need a new Vampire Lackey with a minion power. As far as Mysterio goes, I like the idea but it'll probably end up being like Trigon's doppleganger power. One guy to me that REALLY needs to be redone is Dr. Octopus. I abosultly cannot wait for our "colorful" starter. It has tto be Blackest Night. If they do that they need to have every color represented. Since Black hand was done a couple of sets ago, we ABSOLUTLY HAVE TO HAVE Nekron in the set. Who cares about the set being x amount of points. I want some bad@$$ clicks. Make Nekron almost 300. I think no figure in this set should be less than 100 points. None.
Anyway, I'm getting off of my soapbox. . .

Me too, it's a shame that Marvel isn't actually due for a 70th Anniversary set for another 25 years or so...but I guess that gives WK plenty of time to plan such a set.

My guess is that the new 'STREET AHEAD' option will be based on the idea previously rumoured of VEHICLES hence - Streets. This will give way for fans calling for the 'Fantasticar, Quinjet or Blackbird' etc.
This also ties in with the recntly tried and popular tactic of "Carrying up to 8 Friendly figures" and ties in with the constant need to introduce a NEW mechanic with each new set!
So look to the STREETS people
TAXI - anyone?

I don't care what the theme is, as long as there is a comic-accurate Nova Prime in there! I guess we're long overdue for another War Machine, too.
War machine will be the FCBD figure.
But for all intensive purposes...
The phrase is "For all intents and purposes". Maybe I am coming across as a jerk here, but this just bothers me.
As far as the themes, I really don't know. I am leaning, however, towards a set that mixes the X-Men, Spider-Man, and Iron Man, along with an assortment of miscellaneous figures, some of whom may be about to fade into relative obscurity like Red Hulk, Iron Patriot, and Skaar.
X-Men and Spider-Man just makes sense as it is going to Marvel's most popular characters, while Iron Man 2 should be fresh in the minds of people.
well, technically, Marvel started in 1961, but since the company owned the characters all the way back to Timely Publications that started in 1939, I think it is safe to say that Marvel is at its 70th Anniversary. I swear, some people just love to nitpick over nothing or even inconsequential things. Same company, different name.
Good game, sir.

A street-level set would make my day, especially if the point values were kept low. My favorite aspect of the first two sets was that I had a variety of punks and cops to make giant teams out of. Nothing is more fun than watching your favorite hero get swamped by tons of thugs only to fight through it and reach Kingpin on his last legs for an exciting boss battle.
As the game got more advanced, this got lost. There's no room for powerless henchmen these days. I miss my 8 point thug trying to punch Superman in the face...

I predict the next set will be heavy with Dark Avengers, and Dark X-Men, but it will also have heavy themes with Captain America and Iron Man.
Look who has shared sets X-men, Avengers these are the two biggest sellers for marvel right now.
Then look at who is an Avenger that has already had a subset.
Hulk
Thor
Iron man
Who is missing? Who will soon get movies?
Iron man, Thor, Captain America, Antman and the wasp
So a set might look something like this incorporating modern events:
Iron Patriot
Daken / Wolverine
Bullseye / Hawkeye
Sentry
Ms. Marvel
Captain Marvel (Marvel Boy)
Cyclops
Emma Frost
Angel
Namor
Bucky as Captain America
Falcon
Nomad
The Captain
Black Widow
Synn
Crossbones
Red Skull
Arim Zola
Dr. Faustus
Batroc
Baron Zemo
New Wasp
Egghead
Whirlwind
Giant Wasp
Small Yellowjacket
Quicksilver
Hercules and Amadeus Cho Duo
New Vision
Red Hulk
Hulk
Leader
Modoc
Red She Hulk
Abomb
Skaar
Doctor Banner
Iron Man
War Machine
Whiplash
Melter
Mandarin (Old Style)
Then there will be a few nuggets for the players wanting to fill holes in teams stuff like:
Chamelion
Molten Man
Ox
Fancy Dan
Montanna
Evil Black Knight
Martinex
Rama Tut
Charlie 27
Nikki
Ms. America
The Whizzer
Gamemaster
Man Ape
Female Black Panther
Hellstrom
Doctor Voodoo

Not to be nitpicky, but... SI Doc Ock doesn't have an 11 attack, he has a 10. Maybe you meant an 11 attack with Pounce? Either way, I agree he's pretty good - Outwit someone's D to pounce with an 11 attack? That's awesome!
Also, I'm 95% sure the marvel 70th anniversary set was going to be a collector's set, a la the DC Giants and Green lantern sets.

Marvel has said that 2010 will be the "year of Spider-Man" - it leads me to believe that the long overdue Spidey set is coming.
Here's to a new and better Hobgoblin.

Spidey is "long overdue" for his own set. I could go for a good Spidey set with subsets of Midnight Sons/Marvel Horror and Secret Warriors!
NECA, wanting to start this off for themselves, will likely be making 'their' first set a 'big name' set. Spidey would make sense. (Spider sense! HAHAH sorry)

I detect a Spidey set, with a dash of Dark Reign/War of Kings/mutants.
As a nice change from HoT, I'm hoping for a set of nicely costed, low to mid range point figures that can fit on many teams. As usual, preferably, lots of villains please.

Personally, with the Thor set coming out just prior to Seige, and Seige being the big goings-on at the time of the release, I would anticipate that this set would be a general mish-mash of higher marketability characters for the mass appeal.
My HOPE is that it includes the Dark Avengers roster as commons with that Skrull style function where they have two dials for the same sculpt, doubling up so we get both Hawkeye & Bullseye, Moonstone & Ms Marvel, etc. I thought Secret Invasion had a masterful plan with that, but then totally screwed the pooch when they made them as Uncommons, Rares, Super-Rares. Double-dialing sculpts from the Commons bracket is almost as good as including generics, because multiples are to a lesser extent okay.

I'd love a Dark Reign theme, with a street-level villain sub-theme.
FWIW, I think we *still* need a decent Fisk. The one in HoT is pretty terrible.

Yeah, that would be awesome, and a perfect fit for the mechanic they used in SI. Good call!
i like the idea of that, And i would be excited if they put in another daredevil just so i can rest and die happy with a daredevil "the leader of hand, with the hand key word

With the possible 'streets' theme in mind, Billy Tan has recently stated he will be pencilling a series/storyarc that will focus on Marvel's street-level characters, sometime in 2010.

I'd love nothing better than to see an all female Marvel Divas set. And get some really good sculptors on it too!
That said, if I was NECA, I'd be looking to cash in on my hot, new property pretty quickly. Spiderman is bankable, and there are lots of Spiderman characters begging to be made/remade. It's also a nice contrast to previous Marvel set, which was overloaded with a lot of high point, godlike figures. I could see them going for it.
In any case, I'd love to see them upp the villian quotient for Marvel sets. It's definitely needed.
Also, wouldn't it be cool if they called it Concrete Jungle (a nod to the old TSR Spidey Marvel expansion).

Just read the breakdown issue of events leading to Siege, and saw that the U-Foes were brought in to get things moving according to Loki's plan in Midgard. Dear LORD, would that be great if they finally made it into clix in the next marvel set.
A friend of mine and I agreed it would be great if they could add up to 400 points so that they could be pitted against the Fantastic Four.
I'd be the villains, of course.
Has anyone created dials for the U-Foes in Desires? I can see Vapor being an excellent mobile Poison candidate...Vector, great for TK and big damage with RS...X-Ray, RS with Pulse Wave/Poison...

You just got as much Rep. as I can possibly give you coming your way.
If the U-Foes get made, I'll geek. They are now at the top of my 'Most Wanted' list. I've been dying for them to be made for a long time.
Technically they *should* be stronger than the FF, but I'd *settle* for versions that are on par with the FF.
Yep those would be awesome pieces to play, Rep points to everyone. WHHHOOOOO

What would be even better is if they release a common "Mysterio" as a generic...you know, one of his illusions...then they release the actual Mysterio for one of the LEs...but I think it's more likely that this will be a Wolverine Alpha set, or a Iron Man based set.

Thank you for the rep and for the U-Foe love we have in common. Right back atcha! We need more villains, and this team is popular and long overdue. They should see clixdom sooner than later, I think.
I think that they'd actually be one of the more useful teams as well, provided they're made right...

Yes we do need more villains. I think the U-Foes are far overdue. I also like the way the new WK is putting out groups of figs in the same set that come from the same comic book team like: Guardians of the Galaxy, Runaways, and Agents of Atlas. This is a good sign that the whole U-Foes team would probably be released together and hopefully with some attention paid towards designing them to compliment each other and be collectively priced at 400 like you alluded to.
I would also love to see all of the Sinister Six/Syndicate members from the early sets be remade with sweet new sculpts, and up to date dials and SPs. Sandman, Mysterio, and the Rhino would be at the top of that list for me.

who are the Sinister Six? ;)
Man, you don't even know how happy I'd be if they did an update of them, especially the new mutant Mysterio. He should be the first Marvel clix to have the Poison/Smoke Cloud power, front-loaded.
Now I'm torn between wanting the U-Foes and the Six. If only I could have both...

I wish WK would finish the old GotG first. Nikki, Martinex and Charlie27 at least.
Add in Hollywood, Mainframe, Replica, Talon and a Firelord.
A new Rita DeMara, Yellowjacket would not hurt my feelings either.

I agree with finishing teams, too. It's about time we got a Ch'od for the Starjammers. Considering the team now, we might see a Marvel Girl & Korvus in the same set, if Ch'od were to be made.
Then again, considering that ALL of the other Starjammers are from REV sets, they might fit better as a collector's set.

Because they were actually exposed to more of the same cosmic radiation than the FF. I don't know how much you know about them so I'll just post a little of their 'biography':
'Simon Utrecht (Vector) funded an operation to gain superpowers the same way the Fantastic Four did. His group flew a spaceship into outer space, and were exposed to cosmic rays. What the group did not know was that they would be exposed to an even more massive amount than the Fantastic Four and that it would most likely kill them. Dr. Bruce Banner was at the launch site and upon realizing this brought the ship down before the group was exposed to the terminal levels of cosmic rays. The group however did gain their powers and the newly christened U-Foes attacked Banner for interfering in their affairs. Banner transformed into the Hulk and a large fight ensued, but the U-Foes ended up being their own worst enemies as they lost control of their own newly-gained powers.'
The bad guys almost always lose in the comics, but not because they aren't stronger, usually because they get 'Outwitted' ;)
Also, I don't ever recall them fighting the FF? Maybe someone can point me to a reference of that?

Well, I"m more stoked than ever about the upcoming Marvel Set. The level of work shown in the Lanterns starter set can only mean good things for the next Marvel Set. If the Lantern set is the first real Wizkids/NECA project, then Marvel gets the first all Wizkids/NECA full Heroclix set!
Epic Win!!!

pet avengers FTW!
We already have a REV lockjaw and Throg. but only a pog for lockheed (unless you count the kitty pride fig).
Also, i wouldn't mind seeing Alter Egos for the Dark Avengers; how awesome would it be to start out as "hawkeye" then turn into bullseye. And we definitely need a new Green Goblin fig. Oh, dont forget a new team ability: Great Lakes Avengers - characters wuith this team ability can shovel snow up to ten squares away and always get the sloppy seconds from real Avengers battles

Turns out the FF battle was actually the Avengers when Reed and Sue were part of the team.
It was Reed, Sue, Thor and Gilgamesh versus the U-Foes (while Cap fight Puma) and each Avenger beat a Foe
