View Full Version : 500 point: Nick Fury's Secret War (retooled)
Here is a retooled version of a team I like to play. There is still room to play around with points, so consider this a starting point:
100 SI Nick Fury (SHIELD TA)
85 AV Luke Cage (Avengers TA)
72 HoT Captain America (Avengers TA)
66 SIN Exp Daredevil (Spider-Ally TA)
60 SIN U Wolverine (SHIELD TA)
59 ULT V Black Widow (Ultimates TA)
50 SI Spider-Man (Spider-Ally TA)
= 492 points, w/8 points left over. (Alfred the BST for "deep cover"?)
There is a lot of chances to tweak this team:
My favorite version of the team uses the FF Vet Power Man and Sinister Nick Fury instead...which leaves 21 points unspent. That team can tweak with other figures like HoT Daredevil (no slouch at 81 points) or any of the useful Wolverines (including Colonel Logan).
The HoT Captain America really changes the team. My previous version of the team (using Vet Ultimate Cap) relied on the Ultimates TA to ignore terrain for charging/sniping, since few teams seemed prepared for both Power Man and Cap.
The new roster takes my backup strategy of using the SHIELD TA to increase ranges to a whole new level: The new Cap of course has the wonderful ability to shoot through his own teammates, so with Perplex and SHIELD, it isn't as if you shouldn't be able to get at least one attack off from Cap.
I think I still prefer the Sinister Nick Fury and Vet Power Man....if only for the extra feat options: Protected is possible, but I face a lot of turtles who insist on using the Great Arena, so Double-time on Spider-Man may not be a bad call. The team splits nicely on keywords (Spy, Avengers, SHIELD, Martial Artist) so Warbound has potential as well.
Rep for you, I use a lot of comic book themes, this one is the only one I keep together on display on my desk.
I have been retooling this team every time new figures come out. My latest incarnation also has the HoT Daredevil instead of the Experienced Sinister one I used before.
I also use the E Black Widom from Ultimates for the SHIELD TA.
*EDIT* seems I have to spread some rep around first :(
Wow, I'm surprised to hear about another player who likes this team! Have some rep yourself.
It took me FOREVER to be able to play this team. Something always got in the way: point value, retirement, or event restrictions. Of course since the original comic was so delayed, I suppose it was karma that the team took me a long time to field.
I'm surprised I have such a soft spot for this lineup considering that Bendis completely turned me off of mainstream/616 Marvel with his Avengers book.
The other thing I've noticed with this force: They have typically not suffered by not being a "theme" team. They are relatively insensitive to map choice (wide-open sniping works against almost any team except another sniper team anyway). I've played this squad against a couple of different "tentpole"/first-strike teams and they are excellent at retaliating against a close-combat first strike.
At 600 points, I think I would go with:
109 FF Vet Power Man (Spider-Ally TA)
100 SI Nick Fury (SHIELD TA)
94 SIN U Wolverine (X-Men TA)
81 HoT Daredevil (no TA)
72 HoT Captain America (Avengers TA)
59 ULT V Black Widow (Ultimates TA)
50 SI Spider-Man (Spider-Ally TA)
= 565 points
The last 35 points could use Vet Avalanche (32 points) as "Daisy", or just feat insanity (Pym Particles, Contingency Plan, Ambidextrous, Double-time, etc.)

Interesting the two ends of the spectrum Bendis seems to have. I was not a fan of the Avengers before New Avengers, now I am.
I haven't read Secret War yet (oh to have more money for TPBs) but I like the team. I'm not familiar with other versions of Cage, is there a lesser point version of him you can sub to fit the HoT DD in the 500 point team? His see thru Stealth double incap I find great, even if the range is only 4.

Any one have custom painted figs for the team. I have been wanting to do this for some time. The newest Spiderman for the Marvel universe line looks the closest thing we will get to a actual toy.

I've never seen any mods of the 'team' (or the Latveria-equipped villains for that matter) and I only vaguely remember their "spy suits", but IIRC those could be good looking mods.
Since I've stayed away from most of the 616 Universe since Disassembled I've only heard rumors that Daisy Johnson has taken on a larger role in SHIELD (or one of the the other acronymics), so I suppose it is possible that she'll appear in clix. Of the library TPBs I've read I haven't seen her.

I love Bendis on solo books, or on titles that don't have to "play nice" with continuity...so Ultimate Spidey, Daredevil, Alias, Powers, and the like are favorites. I get non-plussed on other titles with (for better or for worse) long, established history...mostly because his books read like he just doesn't care about what came before. The Secret War is a good example: IIRC he used a bunch of characters that were actually DEAD.
I realize this is a matter of taste, so I have no geek-rage about it. On the comics spectrum, I see B.M. Bendis as a sort of Mirror Universe version of the (Marvel Comics) Grant Morrison.
It's been years (IIRC) since Grant Morrison left Marvel's X-books in a huff, yet the company is still using many of the characters/concepts he first used/created in cartoons, comics, films, etc. I don't know if the same would be true of Bendis in the 616 universe....even in the Ultimate Universe TPTB didn't stick with his original concepts from Ultimate Marvel Team-Up.

I have dropped marvel for a multiple reasons
No job/Loeb/stale stories would be my top three.
The only books on my shelf are Green Lantern, the Walking Dead, and the Ultimates.

I really like Bendis' New Avengers, Spider-Man is actually funny in that book and I love the team dynamics.
I usually restrict myself to 500 points for building a comic book team, so I did have some of the same problems you had when building or fielding this team. I do not get to play it that often in tournaments since I organise and judge them.
I like your 600 point line up, if they ever make Daisy I will have to make this team 600 points aswell. There is no way I am downgrading any of the figures.
I have been thinking of making mods/repaints of the figures , but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
