I did some patchwork on the dial generator at globaldefenseforce.com (http://globaldefenseforce.com/heroclixdials/DialGenerator.html). I have it available on my website at http://www.adamkomar.com/heroclix/dialgenerator.html.

Here's a second version with a different (better ;)) layout: http://www.adamkomar.com/heroclix/dialgenerator2.html

It now generates bbCode to post here on HCRealms. It includes keywords, traits and special powers, but it doesn't calculate the cost of special powers. You'll have to guess on those.

I got it working on every browser I could think of except for Chrome. Chrome no-likey.

Nice work, looks good. I'd like to see some Indomitable, Duo, and Giant symbol calculations on here too.

Just updated it to include all combat symbols.

When you click the Generate Code button in Internet Explorer, some values get filled in as "undefined". That's Exploder for you. Use some other browser.

Thats stuff I wanted to implement into my program but I wasn't good enough to do it. =)

Sure, ya were. Adding the combat symbols was just matter of copying and pasting your code then changing the important details to make it function properly.

Sure. For now, use Refresh.

Yep, I don't know html that well. I copied it from someplace else and added things here and there. Trust me it was a fun learning experience to get this to work right. =) Although there were a few things still had trouble getting to work.

This is fantastic. Well done.

Added a Reset button under the point totals on the right side. It also automatically resets when the page loads so refreshing should work for resetting, too.

Do you guys like the layout of the dial information that you fill in or would you like it better if it was laid out like the preview dial at the top?

Wow. You're quick with this stuff. I'm not too sure what you're asking though, can you explain a little more?

This would be th best dial generator ever if you added in an option to print out useable dials i.e. I can print them out and glue them into my custom figs and play friends with them.

Look at my avatar and signature. I'm all about the quickness. ;)

There's the preview dial at the top of the page.

Then there's the section below there where you fill in the combat values and select the powers.

Would it be better if the combat values and selected powers were laid out in the same way as the preview dial at the top? With "Speed, Attack, Defense, Damage" on the left side of the form and the clicks going from 1-12, left to right, instead of top to bottom.

I hope that was clearer.

Sadly, that's not likely to happen since it takes more than JavaScript to pull it off. There's a dial generator on aduckwhat.com that does that, though. I like it quite a bit, but it doesn't generate bbCode and the dial images don't show special powers.

The Dial Generator @ ajatech.net works in IE just fine (doesn't do points cost calc, but it's great for BB Code).

If I could rep you about 5 more times it still wouldn't justify the amount of rep you deserve lol

Why are there only even numbered range values?!

Neverfate
01/02/2010, 23:06
Yeah, it was a little wonky for me on Internet Explorer. I noticed in the code that it generated, that it filled certain areas with the word 'incomplete' in the fields when I selected all the powers and numbers (even the slots with not powers I selected 'none'). Also, the dial display didn't register powers, save for 1 click of invulnerability. I haven't tried it on Moazilla yet. I will later.

Also, canaaron, there's only been a handful (maybe 3 or 4, at least that I can think of) that had been given a range of 3. I can't think of any others that got any uneven number outside of 3. That's been the way clix have been designed for a long time. I'd imagine the reasoning is to keep rules simple and accessable to players new and old.

canaaron
01/02/2010, 23:47
Dragon Man, Wasp, and Sydney Leach all have 5 range. Mary Marvel, Absorbing Man, and V Shazam! have 3 range. Also, it's a dial GENERATOR, I may like to give my characters a 3 or 5 range every now and then. >:(

j/k

Neverfate
01/02/2010, 23:55
Ah, I don't have any of those figures with 5 range. Only the ones with 3. You could manually enter it in the code easily. Just use the number above or below it for the actual point generator to get a fair estimate.

I reiterate...

When you click the Generate Code button in Internet Explorer, some values get filled in as "undefined". That's Exploder for you. Use some other browser.

I'll get odd numbered range values added.

Edit: Both versions updated with odd numbered range values.

*sigh* Eff it, I'll be blunt. It's not IE's fault if you're too lazy to fix your stuff. Clearly the ajatech.net generator is doing something right you're not.

Stop using IE-hate as a reason not to do the work. As an IE user myself, it's very annoying.

*sigh* Eff it, I'll be blunt. It's not IE's fault if you're too lazy to fix your stuff. Clearly the ajatech.net generator is doing something right you're not.

1) It's not laziness to expect a corporation to produce working product. You obviously don't know much about IE's design. It's a very well known fact that IE doesn't use the industry standards. The laziness is on Microsoft's end.
2) I can tell you exactly what the dial generator at ajatech.net does that this one doesn't. It uses PHP instead of JavaScript to produce the code. Each one interacts different with browsers. PHP is more in-depth and has gone through less major revisions than JavaScript over the years so it's easier for a programmer to tell a browser how to interpret the language when the browser is designed. Microsoft hasn't gone back and adjusted IE to tell it how to interpret JavaScript correctly.

Stop using IE-hate as a reason not to do the work. As an IE user myself, it's very annoying.

IE is the most limited and severely flawed internet browser in mainstream circulation. It's not hate. It's fact. I'm sorry you've decided to be so gung-ho about your Internet Explorer usage, but that's where the functionality problem is.

I simply grabbed the code from the original dial generator at globaldefenseforce.net and updated/corrected it as much as I could to quickly give people something to use. Right now, I'm not using my spare time to start from scratch to make sure I make up for the mistakes of people who are actually getting paid to write code.

If you like ajatech.net's dial generator so much more then go use it. I don't care which one you use. Everyone is going to have a preference, just like a preference in browsers.

You're welcome.

Hey, Adam, I just wanted you to know that you're doing a stand up job on this thing. Sorry I didn't notice you had already mentioned the part about IE showing the word
"undefined". That's why I put that. Really glad we have you doing this, man. Don't let someone call you lazy. You're doing more for us than we are for you.

There is a way, but I won't be doing it. There are already a couple of dice apps on the Android Market that do that. I really don't care to put a lot of work into something that's already available. Check out the app that's simply called, "Dice". You can choose between 1 and 6 six-sided dice to roll and it shows them rolling across the board before coming to a result.
