View Full Version : Freedom Force - the game
Anybody out there ever play Freedom Force. IT is a spectacular computer game, so if you haven't, and you like computer games, go try it. For those of you who have played it, wouldn't you love to see some limited edition Freedom Force heroclix? Minute Man vs Nuclear Winter, El Diablo vs Shadow, etc... I think that would be great.

Great game, but I'd be very surprised if we ever saw Clix for it, at least anytime soon. I think there was a customization project going on at one point for it; dunno what happened with it.
Yup - absolutely love the game, and would recomend it to everybody - I agree Clix of the characters would be great, but as they were all pastiches of known characters, mods on existing bases would be the best bet.
The Ant = Spiderman
Minuteman = Captain America
ManBot = Iron Man
Mentor = Martian Manhunter
Bullet = Flash/Quicksilver
Law and Order = (almost) Cloak and Dagger
etc etc.
I wish they could all be done as proper clix, but I doubt it...

I loved Freedom Force. I was never able to figure out how do skins though. I saw that lots of people customized the character to create new ones but never figured out how to do that myself. If anyone can would someone please tell me how. - Terrence
I also highly doubt that FF would ever become clix - but I can daydream, can't I?

I can install them, and I can modify them .... I don't know how to make my own though. Luckily, the first two are very easy.
What are you looking to do?

FF was an extremely fun game... I should finish that one of these days...

Yeah it's a great game.
And there's lots of mods, skins and meshes out there to add tons to the game's replay value.
If you want to know anymore just PM me :-)

Skinning can be done in Photoshop. I only recomend attempting this if you are a fairly decent artist. It's somewhat wierd drawing 2 dimensional skins that will be wrapped around a 3D mesh. Things don't always behave quite as you'd expec tthem too.
However...if you are looking for skins of someone in particular you can almost bet they have a decent skin floating around out there already. If you are looking for a skin for someone in particular PM me. I have about 95% of all the big names in marvel and could find most of the others. Only big one that comes to mind as not having skin is Doctor Octopus...no mesh was ever made for him :(.
I do wish FF had better Multiplayer options...however, danger room and mods is good enough. I would like to be able to control 6 at a time though...a bit overwhelming, but I think it would be a lot of fun. Hard to play Avenger or X-men teams with only 4 members.

My complaint is the lack of a multiplayer co-op mode. I'd like to just take 1 or 2 guys and play a co-op game with some friends.
As a side note, I can barely run 4 guys right, even with the pauses ..... 6 would KILL me! I'd probably just leave 2 or 3 behind, in case the 'first wave' all got killed off.

about skinning. Okay so say I dowload mods from a site how do I bring tham into the game? - T.

Well, most of the downloads come in a .zip file, with the directories in there already ..... for instance, a Spider-Man skin might say "c:/ff/data/art/custom_characters/male_basic/skins/ [whatever the Spider-Man skin is called]"
Thor on the other hand would need his own mesh, so he'd be "c:/ff/data/art/custom_characters/Thor/"
The Spider-Man skin uses the Male_Basic mesh, so you drop it into the Male_Basic skins directory. Thor uses his own mesh, so he's got his own directory. Make sense now?

You need a 2-d editor like photoshop or Corel. I do my own skins, usually based on existing ones, in Corel Photopaint.
If you had a picture of what you wanted, I might be able to do something for you. Email it to mbdeyes@hotmail.com
BTW, I'm not a fan of the game campaing characters, but I've spent hours downloading new meshes and creating skins. I'm severly hooked on the mod-ability of the game!!!
Bringing the subject back to HeroClix, that's what I miss about this game. Most other games allow you to create your own characers... I'd love to see a supplemental book on that for HC!!!

Agreed,
The game's multiplayer mode left much to be desired. I'm sure it would have "gone over" with the gaming crowd much better if the game came with some solid multiplayer options.
There is no denying that the single player mode was excellent though. Top notch game. Too bad my darned PC can't handle it to well so I was forced to give up playing on the Pin Stripes missions.

Hey VH,
Freedom Force is truly that amazing! You gotta go upgrade your computer and finish it.
I had lots of fun playing the single player game, then proceeded to download the mods there.
For everbody else, you might want to visit:
http://www.freedommods.com/ff-spm.html#custom
In http://www.anycities.com/jbodin/ the creator is Mr. John Bodin! A really great guy who truly loves his work.
My super high recommendations are (in no particular order)
1. Fantastic Force
2. The Great Hunt
3. IronMod
4. SuperPowers (kinda cheesy and really easy but is quite fun with good ol' Doctor Fate and his Amazing Superfriends! Episode 3 really rocks because of Superman!)
Now go download and support those stuff! The other mods are either simply ok or is kinda buggy or weird. But I played most of the Spidey ones but none really shone as the ones I mentioned above.
Cheers!

There are countless great FF mods out there. If modforce.com is still up, go there. You'll be sleepkilled if you don't play the Suicide Squad Mod, even if it is NOT (hint) really really hard.
The great thing about FF is the community. Rather small and close-knit, but it's tons of fun. Skin, mesh, FX, etc requests get filed and done all the tim because almost the whole of the community hangs out there, aside from a few trolls we've pushed away. It's a truly great place, you might wanna start out at the company-sponsored www.freedomfans.com. You can link to the sites there, as well as hang out with some great people. Me not included, though, as I tend to hang out at some of the otehr forums.
