Hi everyone. How on earth do you pop a base open? I can't do it for the life of me? Those suckers are just sooo tough. I want to open one and shave the parts that hold it in place with a hobby knife. Any other suggestions on making the base turn easier?

Also what is your #1 best way to glue a clear flying thingy to the base? I need the best adhesive & technique you've found. Thanks.

Base popping - hard to explain. Much easier with IC figures than with the others (which is where you are having the problem, I think). I hold the base & use a thin metal ruler to push downward through the sliver of space on the side.

Flying thingie gluing - use Crazy Glue. Just one drop, assemble & let it lie on its side or a drop may slide down the post ruining your flight indicator. Be careful how you handle it - if it gets on your fingers you may leave white fingerprints on the base that don't come off.

Hope this helps.

Yeah, those two little indentions on the back of the dial are the way to go.

For the original IC bases, popping the dials off is fairly easy. I wouldn't use a knife, though -- I'd use something flat and blunt, like a nailfile. Simply insert in the gap around the top edge of the dial, and pry until it gives.

This trick works in reverse for ring dials -- simply insert in the gap around the bottom, and likewise.

For flying mounts: crazy glue does NOT work. It will snap eventually when you continue to put torque on it. Two-part five-minute epoxy glue is the way to go with this stuff... once it petrifies, it's there forever.

I've never popped a base open, so I can't really help you there.

BUT...the best glue for sticking anything together with these figures is the Games Workshop Super Glue. It's fairly expensive (8.00 CDN for a bottle), but man, does it work well. It's so quick to dry that you can hold it for less than a minute and it'll be good to go. Also, it's solid as a rock.
