random thoughts:
-"no special objects" ruling was a deal breaker for my team because of the points left (12 pts). 'Could have used the Gold Kryptonite to somehow help neutralize the "tentpoles" of other teams.
-Lobo is really one bad-@ss fig! in 2 out of 3 games, he's the only one left standing. Laging inuuna si Wolverage. hehehe.... Malakas makatawag talaga ng pansin pag chase.:) To think that Lobo costs more than Wolvie.
-Speaking of Wolverage: 1st game I was able to revert to Wolverine but Red-Hulk's double poison took the starch off him. Vs Nathan, Wolverage failed to transform. Vs Randell, it was successful again, even managed to heal at full health. But again, poison na naman ni Red Hulk ang yumari. But before he was KOed, Jojo's (who dropped by but did not play) question if Wolvie's adamantium claws can cut through Superman's body was answered with a roll of 6 from BCF + EW. Booyah! ;)

Expected ko Hulk-thematic teams makakalaban ko. Akala ko kc yun ang format. Mas exciting sana kung medyo balance ang laban. Kaso uso pa rin ang cheese at hide & seek tactics. Medyo disappointing kc overpowered na, tumatakbo pa. Ayoko lang mag-sour graping pero the game isn't worth my travel time. Pasensiya na sa lahat, napagod kasi ako sa biyahe. Mas matagal pa yung total travel time ko kesa dun sa total playing time ko. :disappointed:

By the way, Kudos to LOBO, a worthy opponent.

EXCELLENT Turnout. A LOT of guys were HAPPY to play FIGS that they haven't USED at ALL. I got to play TWO (Manhattan and KC Supes). Though the ANTI-MONITOR was a popular pic, there were A LOT of SUperman as WELL.

Strategem
THE BUILD
The first member of the team was WL Sinestro. FIRST STRIKE (TK) is IMPORTANT in a game like this with ALL the HEAVY HITTERS. I've ALWAYS wanted to TRY out DR. M but since the FORMAT made it impossible to theme up. He's IN. His Psy-Blast/TK/Prob are VERY welcome. Now that I have TWO TKer, a TK-out/TK-back (or the Yo-yo) can be employed. For the LAST member, I initially was GOING for Thor (HoT) BUT using him would mean I was 50+ points UNDERBUILT. I initially went for KC GL (three TKers anyone) BUT same PROBLEM (underbuilt), BUT that lead me to my KC set and KC Supes.

THE GAME
The Yo-yo strategy was NEVER employed as an ALL game strategem. The OTHER teams were very ALSO very Quick to close the GAP and the ANTI-Monitor would be ON TOP of you easily. What actually helped my game was my map choice. The CRATER. The CRATER Map prevented the Anti-Monitor from USING its 12 range because the ONLY position it could SHOOT from was within 10. That allowed my THREE amigos to engage an OLD Fashion SHOOT OUT.

THE GAME

...same with me. Map choice was a big help specially for my 2nd and 4th round games where i won initiative and chose Ferris Airport to battle vs colossal figs (Randell's Sentinels and Datu's Anti-Monitor/Giant Skrulljacket combo). It really was hard to manuever indoors when your big. hehehe....

Choosing what to play was easy for me this time:
- no HSS'ers (to test how far they'll go)
- at least 2 Q/PCs so they can do actions 2 turns consecutively and not worry on outwit
1) WL Sinestro: for range and TK and also a little "staying" power because if you play him right, he should be able to survive attacks from at the most 2 figs. *wink*
2) DC75 Ares: 1st time to use this guy. Monster at close combat. Nice staying power because of his def. powers (just stay away from EW/PBs:)) And I'm also curious as to how'll his "EVERYONE MUST FIGHT" SP will affect opponent's figures in this format (outside of Anti-Monitor of course, because he can attack every turn). And it worked well, managed to deal damage to attackers that passed on their turns.
- and my "dark horse" -- 3) Super-Skrull Illuminati: also a first timer in a tournament (for me). Those "Elastic Entaglements", "Strange Magicks" and "Avenging Fury" worked wonders. He's destined to play in this kind of format because his best is working "under the radar". As a bonus, he got the Scorpio Key at the final game vs Datu (8 range+2 targets+Penetrating/Psychic Blast + 6 damage = booyah!:cool:).

Bow lang ako sa Kid Zoom ni Datu. "SUPER" senses talaga, with 3 figures + laser turret taking turns attacking him, that @&$%$!@ would not go down (6 or 7 super senses alternating with bad rolls from me! wow......)

Actually this is why I don't like feats and bfcs. It's not newbie friendly and feats/bfcs have different interpretations depending on who you ask. Pero golden age figs I'm very ok.

Because Golden Age figures are no match for Most modern Age figures (especially those from before special powers). Moreover, feats, BFCs, bystanders, and special objects offer a richer gaming environment. If ever we do Golden Age, I will rule that Modern Age figures cannot use feats.

I think the question if Cypher can copy the Alpha Flight (or any ATA for that matter) was raised during your game with Nathan. From the Final Word:

Can Cypher choose an ATA?

ATAs (like Runaways or Alpha Flight) are still team abilities, so Cypher could indeed choose them.

What happens with the Thunderbolts ATA? Can Cypher use Thunderbolts and choose his own Marvel TA? The Marvel TA selected with Thunderbolts by the opposing player? Both? Something else entirely?

The Marvel TA gained via Thunderbolts is selected before Cypher can choose a TA. So Cypher can select whatever TA is chosen by the player using Thunderbolts (say, Ultimates, for example), but Cypher can't actually choose Thunderbolts itself (and get to pick his own TA).

I should have LOST to JB. He had Imperiex and the advantage in RANGE, AV and DV. I got LUCKY, when he rolled SNAKE EYES (double ONES) on his PULSE WAVE attack AND me connecting on my PULSE WAVE (despite needing a 9)

Geoff also got me on the ropes. Getting METRON to the SENSES click. The Gauntlet allowed me to HEAL. The rest they say is CHEESE.

Prison, Krakoa and Ferris Airport, i get their uses. Can someone explain what's the advantage of using Metropolis over other similar maps? Is it for "move and attack" teams? Bricks/Tentpoles? i want to know for future team building consideration. :)

I have to agree.....

2 tournaments ago, I told Geoff that i don't mind the map choice.....
He used the scrap yard? with HOT Cap and gave my only loss for that tournament...

despite that.....i would still settle with my 3 maps since those are the only ones I got......hehehehe.....
Certain builds really excell at certain maps....sabi nga ni ecchs....mag metropolis theme ka.....malakas ka sa metropolis map.....:p

I just hope I get to play this weekend....planning to play something "different" just for the sake of it.

I would have to agree also! I think this why you'll rarely see Colossals and those 6x3 Colossals in play! If you field these, your opponent's Thematic team will most likely go first, giving you Maps that will hinder your xtra large footprint... Indoor Maps, Krakoa, Muspelheim.... :speechles

How did the tourney go? any surprises?

May battle report din ako (sort of):
Played 400pt sealed event yesterday sa Heroclix Online (Wos/GSX mixed set). Netted me SR Sandman, Vulcan, Spidey w/ sooper dooper senses, Black Cat, Ben Reilly, Will o the Wisp, Prowler, Puma, Skullbuster and another one I forgot. Went with Vulcan, Spidey and Ben (Should have gone Outlaws: Sandman, Will, Puma and Spidey:))

Anyway, format is 1 round elimination, top 2 fight for the LE prize + clixbux (HCO currency). Kalaban ko had a Emma Frost, Skullbuster, Molten Man, same Spidey I have, Pretty Boy, and another 1 I forgot. I was outactioned until I whittled down his team to Pretty Boy, Spidey (1st click), and the other guy I forgot. My Vulcan was on his 8 click thanks to his Spidey and the others. I decided for Vulcan to move away and take potshots na lang from afar. hindi ko nabantayan sa kakatira nya na magkakaroon sya ng dalawang token. nilapitan ni spidey sabay binanatan pagka-pass next turn. pagadating ng endgame, 2 spidey na lang natira, ang score ay 313 sya, 309 ako. spidey ko was on its 2nd click, sa kanya fresh. nilapitan ko para one-on-one na lang matira matibay. eh dahil paubos na oras ang mahoosay na kalaban ko sige lang ang lundag palayo. nakonsensya lang ata nung nakita nyang pi-nush ko na lang si spidey para ilapit sa kanya. nakibigwas pa sya ng isang beses until time run out.

Lesson learn: kahit saan nga naman, meron talagang mga ganitong players. hehehe (btw, lamang ako nung buhay pa si Vulcan. Pwede rin akong tumakbo if I chose too, pero laking ATC tayo so..............
