So I was playing in the weekly tourney at Curious Comics here in Victoria (Marvel this week), and decided to try something a little different; a team without any flyers or free movers. I took:

R Mandroid Armor
U Spiral
V AIM Medic
E SHIELD Trooper
E Black Panther
V Bullseye

Total: 197 points

There were nine players, and I came in 2nd, winning an LE Doctor Doom, now up on EBay (yeah, Jonathan, if you're reading, I was planning on keeping him, but if you'd taken him instead of Laura Brown, I'd have happily sold her, instead...).

Even though I could only use two models per turn, I had pairs of models that alternated very well -- Mandroid and Spiral, and SHIELD Trooper and Bullseye. The old "TK in Spiral and slice-n-dice" strategy was helpful in one game, killing nearly everything by itself. SHIELD Trooper plus Bullseye is four damage at range. And Black Panther is a great threat plus Outwit.

Sadly, Spiral died soon after carving up an E Doombot in one game and I had a first-round bye, leaving me out of the top spot.

My Medic healed close to 20 points in damage during the last game.

Given that many of the players who show up for these tourneys are veteran players who show up week after week, I think I can say without reservation that flyers and free movers are not always necessary in competitve play; as such, there's really no need to change the rule on taxis. For example, one of the teams I played had two free-move taxis, and I only lost Spiral and he only had a medic left on the board at the end.
