1) If I knockback a character with mastermind by rolling a double, and the mastermind character transfers the damage to an adjacent ally of his, where does the knockback go?

For example: Batman attacks Joker with a close range attack. Just adjacent to Joker is a Changeling. Batman's attack roll gets a double 4 which enables Batman to knockback Joker. But joker masterminds the damage to the Changeling. Does Joker get knockbacked or the Changeling?

2) Can a member of a Team Ability such as the Avengers, JLA or the Borhterhood use its team ability to break away from combat as breaking away is considered a move action? Please give a clear answer on this one.

Thank all for the cooperation.

The first one's a bit tricky. The wording for knockback refers again and again to the "target". The first sentence, for example, is: "If a player rolls doubles on the dice in a successful attack roll, the target suffers knockback."

So on that basis, Joker suffers knockback, equal to the damage he takes, which is zero. On the other hand, Energy Explosion gives us an example where knockback is not restricted to the target. So a case could be made either way.

The second question is easier. As long as the figure is just moving - no Charges or Running Shots - the Brotherhood ability applies. So yes, you can free-move to Break Away.

For the first question, the knockback goes along with the damage. If Joker Masterminds to a Lackey, the Lackey is knocked back.

And Phil's right that you may assign breakaway as your free move. Make your breakaway roll---if you succeed then you may move for free, and if you fail then you're stuck in combat but you did not waste an action for the turn.
