now for the very first battle report:
one on one skirmish freeplay battle with gelo the DDM apprentice!
Underdark wb led by Thaskor, SS rider and M pyromancer with bunch of lolths sting
vs.
Wilderness wb led by H7W, DB Mauler x2 with lots of hunting cougar and elf archers.
Map: Dragon Shrine: gelos choice
First round was more on positioning, coz of the two deadly radius masters. the 2 DB mauler were bloodied by the radius damage already even before they can make a 40 damage.:eek:
Thaskor dealt a powerful trumphet blast against the 2 hunting cougars, leaving the a wide space for the 2 DB maulers to make a combo of 120 damage to Thaskor, thanks to H7W champ power. :devious:

well just to end this battle report, thaskor went home eating peanuts, free league ranger miss all his range attacks during the whole battle, another bad die roll, but with H7W champ power, wala pa ding tumalo sa dalawang oso, kahit duguan na sila.....
seriously, two radius attackers are really a threat! even on a miss, may auto damage, ouch!
good initiative Alvin! let's hear about them DDM battle reports, from freeplays or from tourneys! :cool:

And... here's a quick battle report for one of my two freeplays last sat.
My Warband:
Psychic Sentinel - for Mind Lock tech and Twin Beams
Wand Expert x2 - for the quadruple long-range attacks
Skullcleave Warrior - to soften up targets or finish off wounded ones with the autocrit
Hobgoblin Marshall - for the free move tech
Merchant Guard x2 - you know the routine
Farmer x2 - because Stonecold sez so.
Game 1 vs Do1 on his map, the Teleport Temple
He played, iirc: Large Shadow Dragon, Nightwalker Sinister, Shadow x4, Kobold Miner x4
The first round saw action between Do1's 4 Kobold Miners versus my whole warband! 3 Kobolds get killed, taking with them one poor Farmer. The rest of the Shadows hide behind the walls and out of the Wand Experts' sights.
The Skullcleave Warrior then charged a Shadow, instantly killing it with an autocrit at the start of the second round. Another Shadow then attacked the exposed SW and hit for 25 damage courtesy of the Nightwalker's Penumbral Gift. The Large Shadow Dragon then jumped in, flanked the Warrior, and dealt another 35 damage with a Gifted Sneak Attack. The Hobgoblin Marshall then motivated the Psychic Sentinel to move near the exposed LSD and attack it with twin beams, dealing 30 damage. The LSD however escaped after the Nightwalker Sinister used Shadowwalk to switch places with it before slamming the Skullcleave Warrior for another 20 damage and the kill.
With the Large Shadow Dragon tucked away behind a wall, the Psychic Sentinel and twin Wand Experts then concentrated all their firepower on the Nightwalker Sinister which was left out in the open. The Undead Shadows try to interfere only to get caught in the Sentinel's Mind Lock. Fortunately, all ranged attacks on the Nightwalker hit the mark including a crit from the Sentinel which automatically ripped through the Conceal 11 granted to the Nightwalker by the LSD. The Nightwalker was destroyed.
With no other creature with Reach 2, the rest of Do1's warband can do nothing (and be sitting ducks for the Wand Experts) once they fall prey to the Mind Lock if ever they come within two spaces from the Psychic Sentinel. Do1 therefore conceded. GG!

My other game was against JB's Elminster/Raistlin combo. I'll try to make a write-up the next chance I get. And sana magka-time na ulit ako for another game!!!

...and then there's my game with JB.
JB is a veteran D&D RPG and Skirmish player who has also delved into WoW and now MtG.
JB's warband:
Elminster of Shadowdale (will copy spells from arcane allies)
Raistlin Majere (can wield the Sleep radius attack)
Devis (heal tech and bg for Raistlin)
Lidda (ranged attack and bg for Raistlin)
that bald unique psionic guy (ranged attack and bg for Raistlin)
Halfling Paladin (anti-Charge tech)
Dwarf Battlerager x2 (little killing machines)
I used my old Psychic Sentinel and Wand Expert warband.
JB's strategy is simple yet devastating: Raistlin and Elminster will put your creatures to sleep and then the battleragers will come in and slaughter them with free autocrits! :eek: ANd to make a long story short, ganun nga ang nangyari hehe :p
Right off the bat one Wand Expert and the Psychic Sentinel got into a shooting battle versus Elminster but they couldn't punch through the old wizard's defenses. Meanwhile, my Skullcleave Warrior jumped into the middle of JB's warband and charged the only enemy that he could charge - the Halfling Paladin. The Paladin dies after the autocrit and a few hits from the other Wand Expert but the Skullcleave was immediately surrounded by two angry dwarf Battleragers!
The Skullcleave then deftly sidestepped away from the dwarves and swung his great axe on Devis with a Great Cleave attack! A hit would've split Devis in two and destroy the 15-hp Lidda and Bald Guy as well but... I rolled a critical miss :laugh: And it was all downhill from there!
The Skullcleave quickly falls to the dwarves' and Raistlin's attacks after his embarassing turn. My Wand Experts and Psychic Sentinel continue to miss Elminster (Raistlin uses him as personal shield) while my Merchant Bodyguards die one by one from the arcane enemy's long-range area attacks. Soon the Psychic Sentinel and Wand Experts are put to sleep (save ends!) by Elminster. Rendered helpless, all melee attacks on the sleeping creatures are automatic critical hits. And with the battleragers within charging distance, there's no way my creatures are ever gonna wake up again in this game :knockedou GG!

1 Minotaur uses Wildswing to kill Gelo's Snaketongue. Both Galebs connect to bloody 1 Minotaur Warrior, also includes using 1 swiftness. Minotaur thug finishes off Gelo's warsinger. All rats die, huhuhuhu
Round 4
Galebs kills 1 Minotaur Warrior and bloodies the other one via the move-attack for 30 damage of Galeb, push enemy. 1 Minotaur Warrior connect with the charge combo for 40 damage against 1 Galeb forcing it to use Stoneform. Bapho hits same Galeb to push it adjacent to Minotaur Warrior via swiftness.
Round 5
Minotaur warrior kills cougar and hits 1 Galeb with wildswing. Galeb kills Minotaur warrior. Thugs misses vs Galebs. Bapho hits Galeb to force 2nd Stoneform. Cultist cougar for the kill via critical hit.
Round 6
Galebs gangbang on Bapho and both hits. Bapho hits 1 Galeb twice, 1 via swiftness and kills it. Thugs misses as expected.
Round 7
Galeb hits for 20 damge vs Bapho. Bapho hits Galeb to force Stoneform and runs away. Thugs gangbang Galeb, both misses.
Round 7
1 Thug hits for 40 damage and forces 2nd Stoneform. Galeb retaliates and charges Bapho, Bapho down to last 15 HP. Bapho rolls a critical miss.
Round 8
Initiative goes to Raist, Bapho scores a critical hit to finish last standing Galeb for the win!!!

Oi good article indeed! The warbands he presented really captures the flavor of the Borderlands faction: brute force at long range or in close-quarters. It's also nice that he added the counters to those warbands din. Can't wait to play my Stormrage Blue Dragon again!

Great games Raist & Hexav! I enjoyed every round of it. Finally got my Beholder Ultimate Tyrant woohoo!
The Ogre Mage was quite good in putting enemies to sleep - luckily bagging 2 Hill Giant Barbarians and 2 Catfolk Wilders - good for my Oni twins who got instant free autocrits from melee attacks at di tuloy magamit yung mga Blasts and Lightning Bolts hehe :p
