View Full Version : How do YOU use Professor X?

I'm a big fan of mind control and no one does it better than the Prof. I use him quite a bit but I'd like to know how other people employ his abilities and who they typically team him up with for maximum damage.
Hopefully I can pull some new, deadly combos out of this thread to drive my opponents nuts with.
Use the V Professor with 10 range then park him at the corner of a building (elevated) and start to MC. :)

not bad, but why V Prof and not E Prof? I tend to use the experienced version over the veteran because he's cheaper and almost as good as the V.
ya use V for 2 more in range. V=10 E= 8

I don't use him as much as I should, but when I do I try to go for a 1-turn KO deal with him. Here's my basic strategy:
Team him w/ a flier that has above average speed (around 10 usually does the trick), then move him up on the first turn and MC my opponent's most deadly/valuable figure forward and into range of the long-range heavy-hitters I have hiding back in the starting area. Sure, not always the most effective strategy, but I've found that it often disheartens the opponent enough for me to gain a psychological advantage for the remainder of the match.
Then again, that's just me. And I'm not exactly orthodox in my strategies.

...and then attack from 10 range. If using doombot, be certain to have at least 1 hydra on your team so as to give prof x an AV of 11+1= 12 so as to better hit the target.
Another reason to use vet over exp Prof X is the av itself, 11 vs. 10.
Has anyone out there used the unique prof X? It seems a waste compared to the vet since the unique only has a range of 8.
Not to change the subject, but I'd rather have a 71 pt flyer with MC, TK, and SSenses than 83 pt Charlie. Only problem is her dial isn't deep on MC, so get your shots in early. And remember, perplexers can affect range too. Hard to do with purely Marvel (Doc Ock is the cheapest perplexer at 66 pts), but if you don't mind mixing, MD with a Harley or two can get pretty ugly, pretty quick!
Good luck with Charles!

He rests comfortably on my bookshelf. :)
I always have charlie hang back a bit with both a taxi and a wolfsbane. Then I'll set up my pieces so as to allow charles a lof to the opposing heavy hitters after they come in to fight my guys. Either I can then MC them after they base my figures, or I'll taxi out and start wreaking havok.
If chalie can stay back, then when he takes a click from pushing/MC'ing a +100 fig, I'll shrug his damage off onto vet wolfsbane, and taxi her in to claw up someone.
If you can get the board set up right, this can be a good strategy. I'll usually use a lot of figs with stealth to force my opponent to come to where I want to fight. If they cotton on to what you're doing, though, they can mess things up and you'll end up taxi'ing charlie around and having almost wasted points of wolfsbane. But if you can play smart, this is a good strategy, methinks.

I would TK Wheels with Jean to get that 20 range. nothing much beats that range !
And I might as well use Jean's abilities to the fullest.

Guys... Just take Charlie up on top of a building. Arrange five people with b/f/c so that there's just enough room to shove a mind controlled fool right in between the lot of them. Just hope you don't critical miss. Otherwise, the MCed fool is pretty much dead. And NOONE is going to come for seconds. Problem is, after that, it usually becomes a stalemate. If you're not the patient type, you're going to end up giving in and abandoning the strategy, which generally means death. Anyway, this is probably the most effective use of good ol' Charlie.

Well Charlies MC can be stopped by impervious the E White queens cannot thanks to Psychic Blast!

I don't try to overdo it with a ton of BFCers, but my favorites are to MC an opponent next to a stealthed or hidden wolverine/logan or put him to just the edge of a Cyclops's 10 range (just in range but not close enough to get to anyone). I generally play theme teams though, so there are probably better people for these strategies, but these are the ones I use (when my opponent isn't attacking his friends).

I use the unique prof. x. I like the fact that in a pinch, he can do 1 point (as opposed to a whopping 0 for the r/e/v). Not that I play him a lot, mind you, but I generally try to keep him a little out of harms way at first and get lots of other people tied up first and then have either move or taxied into position.

I've stopped using him. When IC came out, I used him all the time, but there are some very tempting alternatives. Specifically, Moondragon seems to work quite nicely. She's still not the MC master, but she's cheaper than V Prof. and more versatile.
I used to team up Prof with Rookie Vulture for much-needed mobility. I MC people up to a heavy hitter and blast him - Spiral is a nice choice or Logan. Better yet - the Sentinel/Sinestro who scoops them up and captures.

I put him on the dashboard of my car and park in handicapped spaces...
last night I played Vet Prof X, i teamed him wiht vet man bat for the mobility, and i had vet steel on my team. I was up against a Vet Dr. Doom. Doom had one token on him, so i had man bat position prof on a roof. i mind control doom to walk over to steel(who was carrying a light object), perplex dooms defense down to a 16, and hit him for four. doing three clicks total. Two after impervious, one for pushing. That was the coolest move of the night. It was also the first time i've used Prof X. He's gonna see alot more action from now on.
i've once won a game where i simply took control of my opponent's cyclops and fried his medic. along with my bullseye his team completely sucked from then on.

Mr. Scallion
The best way to use your Professor X is to have White Queen MC thr Prof to MC Rogue to run up to my Logan who cuts her up. Then I send a thug a turn right next to the Prof when I don't have the Queen available.
I think you know what I am talking about...

Any army with Mind Control might consider Spiral. Since she's so hard to get into battle, Mindcontrolling an enemy into a push right next to her is pretty good. Plus, Wildcard makes her X-Men friendly.

Thats not a bad strategy, Tk Charles with Jean to pull someone infront for logan or wolverine and in range for cyclops. If Wolvy dont finish him off, cyclops will dust em off. and there goes one man down, (or woman, not to be discrimatory).:D

I don't use Xavier enough, but a few fun things have come up before..
Mind controll a 100+ point wildcard (lets say exp. Ultron) Use Ultron to push and give a click of healing to the good professor.
I also think Mind controll is the best way to get around Doctor Dooms mastermind.
Generally, when I do play Xavier, I try to keep him behind the action and then, at a crucial moment I'll have him moved into a powerfull position.. maby to mind controll Firelord to push to taxi wolvsbane back to thier medic. Wolvsbane hits the medic and next turn, pushes to hit Firelord.
