What's Up with the BRIGHTEST DAY dc story line?? Tungkol saan ito??
darkjacen
02/10/2010, 07:25
Brightest day picks up after the Blackest Night. It's supposed to herald a new golden age for DC's characters. Some believe this will start with the appearance of the bearers of the White Light of creation, something that was introduced in the pages of Blackest Night. (think White Lanterns)
Long story short, it'll be 26 issues bi-weekly starting right after the end of Blackest Night. Something akin to the 52 line that DC had after Infinite Crisis.

I believe Marvel has the same idea after the Siege story line.

Yup, the Heroic Age...where Steve Rogers dons the costume of the new Cap. I think Bucky will die sa Siege 4.:confused:

too bad hindi nagclick yung poor attempt ng marvel to rival Blackest Night's market (ehem..necrosha..)
i'm still a fan of the current line up of x-force though.
and yeah, nabasa ko rin somewhere na someone close to cap will die during siege storyline...
and yeah, nabasa ko rin somewhere na someone close to cap will die during siege storyline...Conrad will die sa SIEGE?!?! Oh no. Dibs sa kanyang Zombie collection. Akin na yun bwahaha.

I'll be honest. I'm not too excited about Brightest Day. If anything it means that Blackest Night will end with a cliff hanger. Not something I look forward to.

i read somewhere that bucky was confirmed to be the captain america post-siege.steve's supposed to run some sort of version of the initiative, only anyone can sign up voluntarily.
anyways, im excited with this whole heroic age event.ung mga new lineups pa lang para sa mga bagong teams is very intriguing..sample, the new thunderbolts are cage, juggernaut, man-thing, crossbones, moonstone!:o

I'm a Thunderbolt FAN ... but the Line Up under Osborn kinda suck. Paladin, Ghost, etc..
Paladin and Ghost would have been OK if the rest of the Crew were good BUT as it is the rest are a BUNCH of wannabees

life originated on earth?? not profound. ok yung blackest night. yung siege pass siguro ako. nadala na ako sa secret invasion. so far yung blackest night ngeenjoy ako. pero honestly masnageenjoy ako sa secret six and guardians of the galaxy. yung dalawang yun tlga inaabangan ko every month with anticipation.
pero yung white lantern sinestro solid tlga e. hindi ko inexpect tlga yun. ok b yung GL tie-ins ng blackest night? parang yung GL run yata yung EPIC tlga e. both GL titles. kaso hindi ko nabasa mga yun except for sinestro corp wars.

caught me by surprise too. When Hal realized that the white light was an entity, I was getting ready to shout "white lantern Hal Jordan!!". Kaso bagal nya kumilos. Hehe. This places the upcoming Brightest Day into an entirely new perspective.
Life starting on earth kinda twists everything around. Feels like discovering that the earth IS the center of the solar system pala. Hehe. I admire the guts, though, in changing the DC universe all over again... Even if it does conflict with one of my favorite Sandman stories: The Heart of a Star from the endless nights collection.

I was not surprised when Sinestro became the white lantern. There has been talks bout him becoming the white lantern in DC forums. Also hints of him becoming the white lantern was being dropped throught the whole run of blackest night and its crossovers. Sinestro becoming the White Lantern is Sinestro's shot at redemption for everything that happened in his past.

It's certainly a great story though it irks me that the juicy bits like Parallax "rescuing" the Spectre (and Spectre promptly saying "no touch" on the entire thing because, well, Nekron has no soul to judge and leaving... WTF!) happens in GL titles. But I guess this is a Green Lantern story and it's the Corps time to shine. Anyway, I'm already looking forward to the "100 minute War" for War of the Supermen.

The Tie-ins aren't bad at all. (except for Doom Patrol...really that was horrible). They give hints as to what weaknessess the Black Lanterns have. Also it explains a bit more about the story, you learn how Nekron came to be, about the inner struggles of some heroes etc. You MUST read Blackest Night Superman and Wonderwoman. BN Flash you can pass, not the best of the three. Blackest Night JSA is also good. The one thing all the tie-ins prove is that the core of the story is a GL story. Coast city is the epicenter for of the Blackest Night.
YES!! time to repaint (or mod) my SR SINESTRO!!
And there goes $60 down the drain. It's nice and all that he got the white entity but it won't last long. Longer than Sinestro Bats I'll admit.
Expect an SR White Lantern Sinestro...:cheeky:

Just read Dark X-men #5...
Nate Grey, one of the most, if not most, powerful Mutant Psionic on the planet gets defeated in the mindscape of Norman Osborn...Now Osborn wants to put the defeated Grey into the Omega Machine.
I find it disappointing that Marvel writers now just shuck characters that are well known and make substandard stories about them. There's no love for the characters that have been carefully made over time. It's because of writers like these that made me switch to DC comics in the first place. :tired: Also several things just don't add up. The story seemed rushed.
On the bright side though the X-men will have a new role with the upcoming cross over title X-men: Second Coming. With any luck it'll redeem them.
Action Comics 887 and Superman: last Stand of New Krypton were also released this week. I like how they keep adding elements of Kryptonian mythology. The Flamebird, the Nightwing and the builder. And now they even added Rao, definately worth following.

Anyone reading the Age of X titles? Aside from Age of X Alpha and chapters 1-2 has anything else been released?
@darkjacen: None yet. The Age of X titles are going to be limited to X-Men Legacy and New Mutants, I think. That means you'll have to wait until next month for Chapters 3-4.
I like it, quite similar to Age of Apocalypse but different enough that it's still interesting.

Waiting for Flashpoint. Sana maganda. Two of my favorite series are ALTERED/DIFFERENT TIMELINES, namely Age of Apocalypse and Kingdom Come.
Age of X is sucking real bad at this point. Brightest Day simply took too long, nobody cares at this point. Sigh. Year long storylines aren't good, they should know this by now.

Flashpoint is GOOD so far. Barry Allen got burned to a crisp, trying to be the Flash. I like how the stories are unfolding so far.
I'm also enjoying the FEAR ITSELF storyline. In FEAR ITSELF - The Deep, Namor got his @$$ kicked by the AMPED up Attuma. Namor calls on Dr Strange who calls on the Defenders. He got Lyra daughter of Hulk (Hulk is one of the WORTHY) and silver surfer. So, its the Defenders Lite. Namor, Surfer, depowered Dr Strange and Lyra (no carb Hulk).
War of the Green Lantern is OK so far.

Yeah I'm aware of that. It's still Johns writing the same title and he already mentioned that he won't really change it that much. Still here's hoping that sa reboot WALA NA SI STEWART. I mean if they can just "off" JSA as well, why not one emergency replacement for the replacement.

who's reading Marvel's Fear Itself? any comments?
I am. Hmm, hindi pa tapos so pwede pang magbago opinion ko pero sa ngayon...
You need to get a couple of tie-ins to get the complete experience. I don't know if the Worthy will make appearances in the main series, but most of their battles happen in the tie-ins. So far, the tie-ins to read are Invincible Iron Man (Iron Man vs Grey Gargoyle in France, best battle that I've seen so far), Journey Into Mystery (originally Thor, where you'll get additional info about the Serpent), Thunderbolts and Uncanny X-Men (to see them fail to stop the unstoppable Juggernaut - at least guaranteed na fail yung Thunderbolts - umabot sa X-Men si Juggs eh), Avengers Academy (the academy teachers vs Absorbing Man and Titania).
maniladawg
08/02/2011, 09:08
Yes I'm reading it. Too many tie-ins. Some good. Some bad. I like the worthy's BUT sabi nga ni Al yung Worthy's are NOT featured in the main story.
I keep thinking, if another SET of Hammers will fall from the sky to BATTLE the worthy's. Hopefully, the Hammer of the WORTHY gets to be made 3D objects in Heroclix
Eto description ng mga nabasa ko na tie ins:
Fear Itself: Book of the Skull #1
- explains how Sin found out about the Skadi hammer
Fear Itself: Deadpool #1-3
- if you don't like Deadpool, skip
Fear Itself: The Deep #1-4 [41]
- Reformed Defenders vs Attuma
Fear Itself: FF #1
- Thing vs Invisible Woman; background on why the hammer has such an influence on Thing
Fear Itself: Fearsome Four #1-4
- SKIP!
Fear Itself: The Home Front #1-7
- Fear Itself side story, main focus is on Speedball. Adds to the Fear Itself experience to see how the people are handling the crisis.
Fear Itself: Sin's Past #1
- Background on Sin and reprinted Captain America issues on Sin
Fear Itself: Spider-Man #1-3
- What Spider-Man was doing during Fear Itself prior to joining up with the rest of the Avengers. Can be skipped. Spider-Man vs Thing in the 3rd issue.
Fear Itself: Youth in Revolt #1-6
- Pinapakita yung ginagawa ng Initiative heroes. Can be skipped
Fear Itself: Wolverine #1-3
- So far, it's Wolvie vs some terrorists taking advantage of the chaos. Can be skipped.
Alpha Flight #1-8
- Alpha Flight vs Attuma in 1st issue. 2nd issue is Alpha Flight-centric. Can be skipped
Avengers Academy #15-19
- Shows the students helping in Washington against Sin's forces. Pym/Quicksilver/Justice vs Absorbing Man/Titania in 2nd issue
Avengers #13-17/New Avengers #14-16
- Nalalabuan na ako sa style ni Bendis. Red Hulk vs Thing in New York, Ms. Marvel/Spider-Woman/Noh-varr/Hawkeye vs Hulk in South America.
Black Panther: The Man Without Fear #521-523
- If you're not a Black Panther fan, can be skipped.
Ghost Rider #1-??
- 1st issue shows an encounter between Sin and the new Ghost Rider. Looks like it can be skipped.
Heroes for Hire #9-11
- Paladin/Gargoyle vs Thing in New York, Elektra/Shroud helping out at the Raft.
Herc #3-6
- If you're not a Hercules fan, can be skipped.
Iron Man 2.0 #5-7
- Starts with War Machine and Prince of Orphans in Washington, then they join up with the Immortal Weapons in China where Absorbing Man's hammer landed. Immortal Weapons/War Machine vs Absorbing Man/Titania. Hate to admit it, but this can be skipped.
The Invincible Iron Man #503-508
- Iron Man vs Grey Gargoyle in Paris, then Iron Man goes to Asgard to help build weapons against the Worthy. Must read.
Journey into Mystery #622-628
- What the Asgardians are doing after leaving Earth. Background on the Serpent/All-Father. Very little action but I think it adds to the experience. Plus, Young Loki is fascinating.
Secret Avengers #13-15
- Spotlight issues on some of the Secret Avengers. First 2 issues can be skipped.
Thunderbolts #158-163
- The Thunderbolts deal with the fallout at the Raft, then they try to stop the Juggernaut somewhere in the midwest. Read this.
Uncanny X-Men #540-543
-The X-Men try to stop the Juggernaut in San Francisco. If you want to see Cyclops giving orders to Magneto, read this. Magneto vs Juggernaut sounds like quite a battle, but so far I'm underwhelmed.

I liked Fear Itself: The Deep. Namor got his butt kicked by Attuma really good. I was disappointed with the Spidey Tie-In when he battles the Angrir (Thing-Worthy) to a draw. Common, Spidey drew with an Amped-Up Thing.
Maybe the Thing was holding back? I'm planning on re-reading everything once all the titles have been released. But Spider-man should've lost, if they weren't in a hospital...

Any good COMIC SERIES. All i'm reading to date is the LARGE CROSSOVER EVENTS. Is SCHISM good??
^^ It's okay. Prelude has nothing to do about Schism (I think). Schism is starting out as a political story. Resurgence of the Hellfire Club.
Uncanny X-Force is consistently good. The team is currently trapped in the Age of Apocalypse universe, so if you're an AoA fan, pick this up.
Amazing Spider-Man is also good. 2 issues monthly, Spider-Island is coming up (the Jackal is giving civilians spider powers).
JLA #1 will come out in September. Under Geoff Johns and Jim Lee - enough reason for me to at least give the first run a try.
I like Avengers Academy the best out of the 4 monthly Avengers titles, but it's lacking star power.

You guys should read uncanny xforce, ganda! and Xmen Schism! And my new favorite: Generation Hope.
Spider island is very good.
The Mighty Thor is mediocre..pero top notch ang art, pati Captain America, ganda ng art, pero lugi ka sa page count: 200 php for 20 pages of story.
Found Justice League to be just average. But then what should I expect from a comic that features different heroes gathering together to fight major threats? Great art by Jim Lee, I like his redesigns but it's going to be a pain for other artists to recreate his new costumes.

I just hope they keep the FIRST STRINGERS in the line up for a while. The LAST Justice League of America reboot had a STRONG CAST to start with then quickly devolved into SECOND stringers. This is a formula to losing your fans. Keep the FIRST STRINGERS in for the most part and DEVELOP the second stringers from there. Give the FANS time to warm up to the OTHER characters.
As far JLA #1 goes. Love Jim Lee! Hoping that the story lines are GOOD.
Got the penultimate chapters of two of Marvel's ongoing events right now - Fear Itself #6 and Schism #4.
Fear Itself #6 was a good read, but I think the slow pacing of the first 5 issues really killed off a lot of it's momentum. #6 shouldn't have been #6 - this should have been #5 or even #4. Now it looks like all the cool battles are going to be compressed into #7. Very similar with how Fraction wrote Utopia, where the final battle(s) was squeezed into 1 issue, resulting in a lot of the action happening off panel (meaning, most of the action left to the reader's imagination).

Yeah, it doesn't make sense, considering he's been handling the black-ops team of x-men. The issue itself really didn't strike me as being anything other than a turf war between Cyke and Wolvie...again.
You fight for what you have, you don't blow it up. Then there's the rumor that Cyke will be following Magneto's doctrine and Wolvie Prof X's. How ironic that the man who used to tell Chuck that things won't work that way will be pushing for it. To be frank, I'm disappointed by that X-title.:tired:

Astonishing xmen is not good at this point. Baduy and insignificant yung story.
Schism is actually good. When you read Xforce (hindi uncanny xforce), nakita na ni wolverine what happens pag nabinyagan yung kids pumatay, malaking negative effect as seen with x-23. Ayaw na nya maulit. Sya rin kasi pinatay nya tatay nya when he was young...so alam nya effect ng ganung trauma.

Cyclops wasn't exactly asking. And it was a virtual suicide mission. There's a difference between training young ones to handle themselves in a tight spot and in feeding them to the wolves when there are other options. Cyclops is becoming more "by any means necessary"-ala Magneto which Wolvie has issues with.
Regardless, this whole "Schism" storyline is meh. Take me back to the 90's when big events actually made sense.:devious:

He was. And Hope's unit basically volunteered. Cyke even said that if anyone wants to leave, they can go.
But agreed on the storyline. It's okay, but it's clear that it was written with the goal of dividing the X-Men, a change in status quo so it feels really forced for me.

I think instead of going with the cliche that Scott would take the reins, Marvel recognized that a) People expect that and b) Wolverine sells. Thus, the shift in the paradigm. So now, the rivalry of Prof. X vs. Magneto is recreated in Logan vs. Scott.
It makes sense, in a way. I'd like it more if the development didn't feel forced and rushed.
Someone at a different messageboard mentioned an event that happened in Wolverine's title that made him this way. Maybe they should have referenced that in this storyline so that it didn't feel as forced as it does.
The way the conflict was resolved in the last issue felt natural to me, especially that last scene with Logan and Idie. Logan's always been close to younger mutants, serving as mentors to them. And isn't Cyclops' version of the X-Men the most militaristic version?

Not surprising since even Daddy Mags is on his side. What I find surprising, though, is that Colossus and Storm (both loudspoken supporters of Prof. X's original vision) are actually siding with him (again, I miss the 90's).
Colossus, that's easy. Read the Fear Itself tie-ins - he's not the same guy anymore. Storm, I'm not sure why she's still at Cyke's side. Maybe she knows what it's like to be in his shoes?

Hi! I'm Headmaster Wolverine. Welcome to the Jean Grey Institute of Higher Learning. So are they going to be called JG-Men from here on? :cross-eye
If you read JG-Men fast enough, it sound like Jejemon. Try it. HA HA.
Just got my copy of Justice League #2 (the only DC title that I'm getting) and the action is picking up. Nice art as can be expected from Jim Lee.
Also got Annihilators Earthfall #2. I picked #1 by accident, decided to stick with it and I'm glad that I did. A great read from DnA.

Someone made the "G-Men" joke in Wolverine and the X-Men #1.

hahaha!!! when we meet i'll let you read my copy. hahaha!!!
It seems awkward right now that Wolverine has turned soft. It makes for an interesting plot. But eventually, he'll be pushed against the wall and he'll be forced to make his students fight. Which brings back the 'schism' argument. But Cyclops shows his support to the school by including the kids in his blanket of protection. They will fight back-to-back once more. And at this point, no one's right. It's all a matter of perspective. :)

Winter Soldier didn't die (http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=35275)
More evidence that death in comics is just for pure schlock shock. Whatever happened to the rule in Marvel that only Bucky and Uncle Ben stayed dead? :ermm:

And this is a good example of where the adage "Don't judge a book by it's cover" applies :) I read the issue and Ed Brubaker did a good job explaining how Bucky survived, and more importantly, why it was kept under wraps.
I've been catching up on my comic-reading and I'm glad I picked up Justice League. A perfect DC title for a non-DC reader like me. It's about time that DC gave the League some A-List treatment.
