A while ago we had another musical showdown that featured songs with the same name but different writers/performers. They were one-offs and not done in conjunction with the Rock Wars. Please listen to all the songs, even the ones that you haven't necessarily heard before and then pick your favorites. Some songs may only have two competitors and some may have as many as four or five or even six. I'll try to weed out the pretenders from the contenders.

Our 33rd match-up is SPACEMAN – thanks to Magnito for this one

As usual, there are a lot of songs on this one, but this will make for a nice time killer while you're working or blogging or whatever it is you do. Just sit back and listen. Give each song a chance, then decide.

Foghat pulled out a very surprise win in the last match-up, but it wasn’t the biggest surprise to me. Easy Money had the highest showing yet by a country artist, Brad Paisley, who missed out on the top spot by 1 vote. And he did it while only grabbing one first place vote in the competition.

In the immortal words of DTM - "So what say you all." Who will be the winner in this latest match-up of Same Name/Different Song? Rank the songs from favorite to least favorite as there'll be a points system to decide winners & losers. Also, if you like, put in comments about the songs - good or bad, it's all cool.

As always, if you have suggestions for future match-ups please list those in your reply.

Harry Nilsson - this is a sweet pop tune. Nilsson always seems to be able to meld fun lyrics with a sing-along melody, laid over cool chords.
Journey - I was feeling this one and Neal Schon's guitar work was outstanding.
Dave Matthews Band - Whoa! Best percussion I think I've heard in a song in a while. Carter Beauford (DMB's drummer) plays beats like no one's business and then he doesn't play a beat when you're expecting one and it makes the song better. Not many people can do that and were it not for DM's voice this would have been #1.
Killers - I started with them ranked 1 or 2, but then I listened to all the songs and they fell to 4.
4 Non-Blondes - I liked this song better the first time I heard it when it was called What's Up. I love Linda Perry, but she channeled herself too much on this one...still it wasn't the worst.
Babylon Zoo - I liked the chorus but the rest of the song was too electronic for my tastes.
Bif Naked - uh, errrrr, um...not my usual type of song. Too trendy and nothing to make me think I'd listen to it a second time.

1. Journey - I was not expecting to put Journey at number one, but this being pre Steve Perry made it a lot easier.

2. Harry Nilsson - Always love this guy's work. I wonder if there's more then one song named "coconut"?

3. Babylon Zoo - nothing special here.

4. Bif Naked - She gets points because of her ties to Naked News.

5. Dave Matthews Band

6. The Killers

7. 4 Non-Blondes

1. The Killers - I know as an aging hipster I am supposed to hate this band, but they are a talented group and I love this track.

2. 4 Non-Blondes - This song was a bit of a surprise for me. It is way better than I remember it being. Typical Linda Perry, but I typically like her so it all works out.

3. Babylon Zoo - This really isn't that good of a song, but it brings back fond memories of a drunker, sexier time.

4. Bif Naked - Had this been the album version it would have ranked higher. Give me the guitars of the original, this dance remix is okay but a bit too generic for my tastes. She would probably score even lower if she wasn't crazy cool and crazy hot.

5. Harry Nilsson - THis is a great song, that in most of these would have made the top two. I love the happy, hopeful feel to it.

6. Journey - Not one of Journey's best, but still a solid track. Probably the best song I have ever ranked so low.

7. Dave Matthews Band - The only one in the bunch that I don't like. I have always found their music grating and this song is no exception.

Before I get to ranking these Spacemen, just want to mention some accompanying listening tidbits:

"Spaceship" by Angie Aparo - one of my all time favorite songs. Is it rock? Is it pop? Don't know, but that guys lyrics and vocal range are both "out of this world"!

"Spaceboy" by Smashing Pumpkins - Off of Siamese Dream... love it or hate it, there's no in-between. 'Nuff said.

"Starman" by David Bowie - When Glam was God!

The first "cool" album I ever bought with my own money - Ziggy Stardust. I'm sure my older sister hated it because I began to raid her closet for Bowie-esque shirts.

Spaceman... Calling Dr. Leo Spaceman...

1 - Harry Nilsson - I don't think I've heard a Harry Nilsson song that I didn't like... yet. As sad as it may seem, this is the kind of music I really enjoy blasting in my car and singing on the top of my lungs. And I probably will! "Now that I am a spaceman, nobody cares about me." Nice!

2 - Dave Matthews Band - I like when DMB songs aren't "we have so much talent OVERKILL". I thought this was pretty good - quick, catchy, and giftedly crafted. I was surprised that I liked this song as much as I did.

3 - Journey - I'm not familiar with much pre-Perry Journey, but I thought this song was pretty darn cool sounding. Dug the guitar solo.

4 - The Killers - Not their best song, but not a terrible tune by any means. The song is fun, but predictable.

5 - 4 Non Blondes - Are all of their songs about getting high? This song was kind of weak for grunge, kind of weak for psychedelia, and kind of weak for spacemen. Meh.

6 - Babylon Zoo - It lost me 40 seconds in when it went all San Jacinto-meets-whatever used distortion in the '90s. There's not much about this song that I found enjoyable. My favorite parts were the Chipmunks guest vocals. Meh.

7 - Bif Naked - Substandard dance song with substandard vocals. The singer to this group is super hot. I don't know if that is sufficient enough to boost the song in my list. My life was fuller before hearing this song. Meh.

1. Dave Matthews Band (probably the most enjoyable song so far)
2. The Killers (not bad, I kinda liked it)
3. 4 Non Blondes (new song for me, and while I didnt love it, I did find it somewhat enjoyable)
4. Journey (another OK, so so song for me)
5. Bif Naked (eh, it was OK, middle of the road so far I guess)
6. Harry Nilsson (another nothing special song)
7. Babylon Zoo (not horrible, but not really that good to me)

Let's rank 'em!

The Killers (I have to admit, I was prepared for this album to be entirely forgettable. The label of "next big thing" has spelled doom for so very many bands. But I actually enjoyed it quite a lot.)

Harry Nilsson (I feel that this song could only be properly appreciated by listening to it on 8-track in this van (http://www.bestweekever.tv/bwe/images/2008/07/Space%20Van.jpg).)

Bif Naked (This sounded exactly like the opening to Season Two of the Venture Brothers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDRWQGlVe6E). And that's actually getting this song a bit of a bump, because that *still* cracks me up.)

Dave Matthews Band (Meh. There are some Dave Matthews tracks that I grudgingly admit to enjoying. This wasn't one of them.)

Journey (Sorry, but Journey is defined by the Steve Perry era for me.)

4 Non Blondes (I'm sorry - I can't get past this video. "You got your Concrete Blonde in my Blind Melon." "You got your Blind Melon in my Concrete Blonde." Why they're two great tastes - okay, they're not. They're one awfully good taste and one mediocre taste that happened to score *huge* with a video with a bee girl in it. So, yeah. I'm expecting this to not do so well.)

Babylon Zoo (Somewhere right now, this song is playing in a Hot Topic.)

Sometimes I think you might be who they need to replace Simon Cowell.
