I now have internet and cable again! Hooray!!

Also, we finally had a bulldozer come through the neighbourhood so I can actually leave the house. It's been a rough week, weatherwise. I'll tell you all about it sometime, but bottom line is that I am more appreciative than ever for owning a 4 wheel drive SUV and having electricity which only failed today (officially after the severe weather was over, so go figure.)

Let me just say that for most people who live in places with heavy snowfalls (like Alaska or something), perhaps this wouldn't have been a big deal. But when a snow storm of this magnitude hits Washington DC, no one is prepared for it - and that is how the Federal Government has to shut down for 4 days. (Today was a liberal leave policy day and besides all public schools were closed as well.) I have already put a snow blower on my "Father's Day wish list." I have never shovelled this much snow within a relatively short period of time. The banks at the bottom of my driveway were 4-5 feet deep - no kidding! And so it goes.

Yes, we have back-up generators and I don't have 4-wheel drive, it gives other drivers a false sense of security though...so they are the ones you see more often then not stuck in ditches :-/

Personally, my family and I were always more keenly aware of the winter games, as opposed to the summer games, when I was a kid. Then again, we lived in Wisconsin and Minnesota at the time, so that could be a big part of that.

I just don't watch the olympics at all anymore. 30 minutes of TV time for 5 minutes of actual entertainment, isn't something I do anymore.

Well, yesterday I went over to my in-laws' house in order to help dig them out. The driveway had frozen over and it took some chopping to get rid of the 4" layer of ice which was blocking the way out. The messed up thing was that someone in the neighbourhood had stolen their snow shovels off their porch. Anyhow, I have spent the weekend dealing with the aftermath of last week's snow storms and trying to watch the Olympics here and there. And now I have a stack of comics to catch up on as well. Today is a holiday, at least. Hope to get back into the swing of things soon enough.

Yeah, today is Presidents Day in the US. Not everyone gets the day off, but the Federal Government does and the schools are closed. Thus, we are at home. Figured it was a good day to finally make it to the comic book store and get a month's worth of reading that has been waiting for me to pick it up. People steal snow shovels. Couldn't tell you why, but I have encountered this problem countless times in the past decade. Matter of fact, it happened again this winter.

Yeah, it's pretty messed up. Especially with the amount of snow that we have gotten recently, it's a low act to potentially trap someone in their own homes by stealing their shovel. Luckily, I had an extra one at home - so after helping them to dig out I made sure that I gave them a shovel that they could use in the future. Hope that it does not get stolen as well.

Where I live, some people seem to think bicycles are community property - if you leave your bike unlocked someone will probably take it, and then leave it somewhere else.
Guess it's the same thing with snow shovels...

These days, the only thing I have to watch is my garbage. I have to shred everything, because I found out that there's a couple guys that are actually rooting through it every week. Kinda sad, really. I've got about 100 articles of clothing that I've been meaning to donate to Goodwill, and would gladly let them have some before I did, but they run as soon as I touch my doorknob. :ermm:

Mmmm.....I hate the phone. Like, you cannot possibly fathom the depths I will sink to, in order to avoid the usage of my phone. I hate spoken communication, almost as a rule. My typed words always come out 100% better than anything I'll vocalize. You would be half convinced that I had the IQ of a 3-year old, should you ever hear me speak.

That, added in with the lack of real friends, and having moved a great deal, and Facebook is really the first chance I ever had in keeping in touch with people I once knew. Like I said before, it was wonderful at first.

Then I found out that everyone on there just wants to spam each other with countless bull####, and actual communication is somehow considered a bother to them. So, as usual, I gave up.

In other news, I was just at a bar, where I was told I was supposed to meet a friend of a friend of a coworker, because they heard how much I hate February, and thought they'd brighten it up. After sitting alone for an hour, I gave up.

That's kind-of why I just avoid all people from my college days (except some of my medical collegues). It sounds stupid at this stage of my life but I still don't want to hear about the new paths my ex-fiancee found after we ended. :ermm:

(Not that I don't wish her happiness - just the opposite, she deserves much after how I apparently really hurt her (based on what she said; I've never actually understood what I did)...I'm just one of those people who believes there's always a way to win/fix/etc. and hate being reminded of my failures, I guess. :) )

I know a couple other guys that have that problem, too, but the game is kinda quirky overall. Their lobby system, in particular, could use a new overhaul for this next "season". It seems we always have people that don't understand how it works, largely because it doesn't make clear sense.

Now I am just out of college so I have a totally different perspective on this but I definitely think you should keep in contact with your good friends from school. Although on the facebook front, I would just cut all the dead weight. Keep the essentials aka people you would call friends (not friends of friends) and females you are digitally stalking.

Now I am just out of college so I have a totally different perspective on this but I definitely think you should keep in contact with your good friends from school. Although on the facebook front, I would just cut all the dead weight. Keep the essentials aka people you would call friends (not friends of friends) and females you are digitally stalking.

Yeah, see, I didn't go further than 1 year in college, and I don't even have half the credits from that one year. Total pathetic waste of time and money. Furthermore, the few girls I actually had interest in back then, actually had interest in me, and I was too stupid to see the signals. So, now, whenever I see them doing something, under a different surname, they remind me of what a failure ######bag I am.

The same goes for whenever I see her name mentioned somehow. I took her off my friends list, because it becomes impossible to breathe if I see the name appear anywhere, but Facebook obliges to tell me whenever someone does something to her page, because I set my preferences like that back when I was in love with her, when she hadn't crushed my heart into fine paste yet. So, now, I don't have access to setting that preference anymore, and the only way to fix it would be to re-friend her, which I'm obviously not going to do, since that would require her approval. Which would oblige her to message me with concern and reminding me that I'm still here, two years later, with the same dead-end job in this dead-end town.


So....if you don't have anything like that going on, I'm sure it's a great idea. Me, I'd prefer to not ever hear any of their names again. Wish them all the best in life, and certainly don't hate any of them (quite the opposite), but they've all dropped off the face of the earth as far as I'm concerned. When they suddenly appear again, it's like someone dropped a Hiroshima on my chest. Hiroshimas hurt.

I just floated around on weekends visiting my friends from high school. They always understood me better anyway. So yeah, I have maybe one or two college friends and I barely ever talk to them and never see them. My High School friends, on the other hand, I see on a weekly basis for the most part.

Same here. Practically all of my high school class is on FB and I enjoy staying in touch. I have basically none from college since most of them have moved away and I have lost touch. The very best friends I have are the ones that have known me since I was in my teens. (And we managed to keep in touch for years before FB came along! Heck, we even used to have yearly get-togethers in Vegas before we all got married.)

Well, I seemed to be pulling everything together when she was in my life. I had one of the best friends I've ever had, she helped push me to do stuff like go to church, volunteer, and other stuff that I was starting to waffle on. She even came over whenever I was sick, and made homemade meals for me. Best chicken noodle soup you'd ever have in your life, with homemade noodles. I actually started to think about my future, and I was getting over my venustraphobia, thanks to her. She was always the hottest thing in the room, so being able to talk to her, helped me with talking to others.

The upside was, even after she broke my heart, some of those things remained. I'm still shy, but I don't get overly tense around pretty girls.

Downside was, I stopped caring about stuff.

I would have liked to have, initially, but it was the whole "dividing up of friends"-schtick that happens after a long term relationship goes down. I knew I was moving on to other places and wanted to make sure she was looked after and not alone so, basically, I let her have the friends...and my Beatles collection (okay, the latter was not by choice). :laugh:

Well, it took me 7 years and a move from West Coast to East Coast in order to get over a bad break-up with someone who was until her time the love of my life. There were plenty of days where I didn't believe that the future would be any good without her. 16 years after having landed in this part of the country, I am happily married to a great person who has given birth to my two children. Had I remained on the West Coast, the present would not have come to pass. Had I not experienced severe heartbreak, I never would have had a reason to move away.

I guess that you can play the "what if" game until you go insane, but in retrospect I can see that events unfolded as they did for a good reason. Not that it helps while you're in pain and don't know what is to come, but time adds perspective and provides healing (though, true, scars remain nonetheless.)

It gets better, is all I am trying to say. I firmly believe that it does.

February has sucked for all 26 times that it has occurred in my lifetime. I am a firm believer that it will continue to suck in the future. It is the month of suicidal thoughts, heartbreak, loneliness, and monochrome. February sucks.

That would match up with many of the reasons for why it sucks. Then again, I was a really loving kid before puberty, and gave cards and candy to everyone in my class each year for Valentine's Day. Never got anything back. Didn't affect me much until later, when I realized how poor my family was, and how much care my mom and I were really putting into it. :cry:

February sucks, with the small exception of the birth remembrance of the Shuffled Truffles. Which hopefully falls nowhere near the holiday of loneliness and despair, otherwise known as "Valentine's Day". If it does, then Val's Day should just go to hell altogether.
