View Full Version : does hcrealms have spyware or a malicious advertiser?
about 1/3 of the time I visit this site, and I visit almost daily, my browser will close down, close and pop up a windown that says "my computer may be at risk click here to scan", or my protection software just closes windows altogether. This is the only site that does this.
Does anyone else have this?
If you run this site, why have an advertiser that takes us completely off your site to theirs?

It's from the ads. When you allow advertisers to put their ads on your site, you get to choose who you allow to display ads, but the advertisers choose the ads and can change them at will. The only thing the site admins can really do is find out how credible the advertisers are (i.e. Are they the type to install spyware, use an excessive amount of pop-ups, do they use false messages, etc.), but that kind of information isn't always readily available especially for lesser known companies.
Basically, it's not the fault of the HCRealms administrators. The best they can do is suspend the malicious advertiser, but I'm sure there's red tape they have to go through for that to happen.
While you shouldn't have to worry about the safety of your computer when visiting any site, I'll go ahead and toss the same answer at you that everyone else will: If the ads are really that much of a bother for you then donate the $5.00 to get rid of them for a year. It makes a huge difference. Here's the link to the donation page: http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/payments.php

Quoted for truth my brother. I'm always amazed that people still put up with adds and other annoyances on the web by using Explorer rather than the preferable alternatives.

Then I reiterate my previous statement.
