Tournaments at Goodgames Ballarat

Here is the official thread for Clix tournaments being held at Good games Ballarat. I will use this thread to post all upcoming tournaments, so keep an eye on it.

If you're interested in coming, Goodgames is located in Sturt Street (the main street through the city) underneath the Commonwealth bank at the corner of Lydiard Street. Tournaments run from 1pm - 4:30pm on Sunday afternoons or 7pm-10:30pm on Thursday evenings.

Except for sealed booster tournaments, all others cost $5 entry and every player wins at least one figure regardless of where you place. We play Golden Age unless otherwise noted, but there are often some special rules so check them out before you make your team.

Here is what is coming up at the moment:

Thurs Jan 19th 7pm 500pts “Transdimensional Crossover” - Your team must
include figures from 2 and only 2 different universes (ie. Marvel, DC, Indy, Halo, GoW, LotR, Street Fighter). No feats or BCs
Prize: LE Nazgul

Sun Jan 27th 1pm 300pts Infinity Gauntlet Qualifier 1 - Sealed Hulk Tournament. Build a 300pt team from two Hulk boosters
Prize: LE Adam Warlock with the Infinity Gauntlet
Entry Fee: $38

Thurs Feb 9th 7pm 200pts “Mighty Midgets!" No figures over 50 points. Random Battlefield Conditions, No Feats.
Prize: LE Daredevil
Entry Fee: $5

Sun Feb 18th 1pm 600pts Infinity Gauntlet Qualifier 2 Modern Age Constructed. At least 300pts of your team must be from the Hulk or Superman sets.
Prize: LE In-betweener
Entry Fee: $10

Thurs Mar 3rd 7pm 300pts “Alter Egos” Your team must include at least one Alter-Ego figure. Choose up to 2 BCs, no Feats.
Prize: LE Bruce Banner
Entry Fee: $5

Thurs Mar 15th 7pm 500pts "Traitor in the Midst" Secretly choose a character on your opponents team as the traitor. Whenever one of your characters is KOed roll a d6. On a 5 or a 6 the traitor changes sides! Random BCs, 10% Feat limit.
Prize: LE Black Bolt
Entry Fee: $5

Sun Mar 31st 1pm 300pts Infinity Gauntlet Qualifier 3 Modern Age Constructed.
Prize: LE Champion
Entry Fee: $10

Thurs April 12th Galactic Guardians Set Release! Sealed Booster Draft. All players receive 2 boosters. Choose one figure from each then pass them on. Make a 400 pts team from them.
Prize: New Maps and more!

Really good actually. I had meant to keep this thread updated with our current tournament schedule...so I'll have to do that. Just been crazy busy lately.

Our venue owner has been supporting clix like crazy. He managed to get a bunch of the FCBD War Machines, which we used to run a NGN, and we picked up a few new players from that. The venue owner has also managed to bag a bunch of older LEs as well as buying two of the B&tB prize packs and two of HoT, so we've got prizes kinda coming out our ears!

Here is our current schedule. I included the events that have already run for posterity's sake. ;)

May 6th - 7pm, Cost: $5, 400pts ‘Movie Mayhem!’ Receive 1 theme team bonus for every character that has appeared in a movie (must be a cinema release). If your whole team is from the same movie series, you get all theme team bonuses. No other themes apply.
BC: Choose Three
Prizes: LE Clark Kent & JLI ATA Feat

May 20th - 7pm, Cost:Free, 300pts NEW GUY NIGHT! Have two 300pt teams and teach a new guy to play to receive an exclusive War Machine figure and Map each. Players who haven’t been for over 12 months are considered ‘new’. BC: None
Prizes: LE War Machine & Map for each new guy and the person who teaches them.

June 3rd - 7pm, Cost:$5, 300pts, ‘Power Fluctuations’. Roll 1d6 before each game. 1=No powers are used. 2=Speed powers only, 3=Attack powers only, 4=Defense powers only, 5=Damage powers only, 6=All powers are on. Same number can’t be used twice. No

June 17th - 7pm Cost:$5, 400pts & 500pts ‘Odds & Evens’. When you roll for initiative, if the result is even you use your 400pt team, if odd you use your 500pt team. You can re-roll the initiative rolls as many times as you have lost during the night.BC: Random

1st July - 7pm Cost:$5, 200pts ‘Multiplayer Fun’ All games will be 3 or 4 player brawls.Choose One Only

15th July - 7pm Cost: $5, 400pts ‘War of Light’. Choose a colour theme, based on a standard colour on the PAC. Every character on your team must be wearing or be mostly that colour, or have it in their name. Once per game you can grant a character in your team each of the four powers that are the same colour as your team. BC: Choose Up to Three

29th July - 7pm, Cost:Any 6 figures, ‘Pink Slips Mega-Draft!’ Bring any 6 figures to put in the draft pool. Players on the bottom of the leaderboard choose first. You win any figures that you KO. No Cardboard

12th August - Cost:$30, 300pts “Web of Spider-man" release! Receive two boosters and build your team using figures from the new Web of Spider-Man set

Oct 7th - 7pm, Cost: $5, 400pts ‘Traitor in the Midst’ You must have at least 3 figures in your team worth 50pts or more. At the beginning of the game choose one figure on the other team to be the traitor and secretly write it down. Whenever one of your figures is KOed roll a d6. On a 5 or 6, reveal the traitor. That figure joins your team.

Nov 18th - 7pm Cost:$5, 400pts ‘Clone Wars’ All figures on your team must be the same character or clones of the same character. The Jackal can be included as well.

Dec 2nd - 7pm Cost:$30, 300pts ‘DC 75th Anniversary release!* Booster Draft. Open two boosters. Choose one figure and pass to the left. Continue until all figures are gone. Keep what you draft and build your team from it.
Prizes: New Maps (maybe other stuff as well)
*unless delayed, in which case it will swap with the next tournament

Dec 16th - 7pm, Cost:600pts ‘Tragic Loss’ At the beginning of the game choose one figure on the opposing team. That figure is removed from the game and no victory points are scored for it.

Jan 13th 300pts “Multiplayer Mayhem” - All games will be 3 or 4 player matches. Special Pick-Up tokens will be included.

Jan 27th 200pts "Mighty Minions" - All teams must be made up of generic figures only (if their name says 'Various' they are considered generic, but ask me about others that can be considered). 4 actions per turn instead of 2.

Feb 13th 400pts “Battle of the Super-Pets!" All teams must have at least one member with the ‘Animal’ keyword. At the start of each game, nominate a character with the Animal keyword as your team pet. If that character survives, earn survival points for it equal to their point cost.Prize: LE Gleek
BCs: Choose up to 3

Feb 27th 300pts “Colourblind” All teams must be based around a colour. Opposing characters cannot use powers that are that colour.

Mar 13th 200pts “Dynamic Duos” Use either one Duo figure, or any two figures. No Feat limit. If you use a duo, you can take a power action to replace it with 2 single figures of the same character at full health.

In the hope of making it easier for Melbourne or Geelong clixers to be able to make it to tournaments here, we're changing the tournament time to 1pm on a Sunday. Should finish around 4:30-5ish.

It certainly is. The only thing that could disrupt it is if for some reason we don't get the X-men set in Australia by then, but that's highly unlikely considering that it's official release date is the 16th, and the lat two sets we actuall got in BEFORE the release.

I'll post here to confirm when the store gets stock.

Yep. I'll let you know what the prizes will be for the release. We usually do a participation prize for everyone (should be a map each if we have enough) and some kind of LE for the winner and fellowship. Our normal tourneys everyone usually gets a couple of figures, but because you get two boosters for just $30 we don't do that for releases. I'll go in and check on the prize support and get back to you.

I know another couple of melbournites who might be interested in coming (unless Dave Edwards or Aaron are already coming with you?)

Okay so just to confirm, we have 10 maps so the first 10 players will each get a map (since it looks like we'll have more than 10 players). I have a few maps left over from some older sets too which we can use.

The Prize pool will consist of a Crimson Gem of Cyttorak LE special object, a Foom Finger special object, and at least on BiBtB fig Jamie Madrox. I might be able to get a few more figures in the prize pool as well. There will be a fellowship prize as well.

Not sure. I'm thinking about 12 will be there.

Actually I think what I'll do with the maps is to add them into the prize pool. I'll put the older maps in as well. So people can choose based on where they come. So the prize pool should consist of:

LE Crimson Gem of Cyttorak
LE Fin Fang Finger x2
New Maps x10
BiBtB Jamie Madrox (possibly more than one)
I think theres at least one HoT Asgard Map and Cemetry Map left as well.

Fellowship will also automatically get a Crimson Gem of Cyttorak.

So if we had 12 players, then the top 4 would end up with 2 prizes. I'll try and get a few more Jamie's, so most people will get 2 prizes. :)

Could be hard to choose what to take if you win though!

What did you think of your first tournament experience?

It's hard getting used to the limited number of turns. I remember my first tournament that came as a shock, since home games are normally played out until last man standing.

Limited number of rounds forces you to push more and play more aggressively.

It was the Bens' first time. I've played a few games in Sydney at the Tin Soldier... interesting they go on 12 turns instead of 10.

Just a reminder that the first round of the infinity guantlet series is this Sunday the 29th at 1pm at Goodgames in Ballarat. Everyone who participates will recieve a special Infinity Gauntlet figure, regardless of where they place so make sure you get there if you possibly can!
