Ok so i need as much help as possible and i dont know where else to turn;
first off; i am from america and i am trying to research information regarding the Philippines and World War Two;
the reason here is; my grandfather was stationed somewhere on one of your islands but he doesn't remember where,
all i know is that it was a camp that held about 60-70 japanese POW's that were put to work (with the rest of the camp) to dismantle destroy and ship back american military equipment.
he remembers about 5 american soldiers that deserted to go assist Filipino armys battle japanese (that he never saw again)
my grandfather remembers how everyday citizens would come and work and get paid to help out around the camp (like the women cam and got the clothes to do laundry)
he remembers going into town but not much else about the town or whether or not it was a big town or little.
it was towards the end of american involvement in the pacific and finding information on it is very difficult,
so please if you know of any information that could help me, any american army bases that you can name or any books or something you can refer me too i will be incredibly grateful thank you!!!

Most of the major US bases were located on the island of luzon. You might want to check Sangley Point in Cavite, Subic Naval Base and Clark Air Field in Pampanga, Corregidor or Bataan Bases.
I hope this helps. :)

the war in general; in hopes that it will lead me to more information about what my grandfather went through..
its very frustrating to run into dead ends all the time... everyone talks about europe, i know very little about the pacific.

after looking at the maps i found i think it is most likely pampanga; my grandfather mentioned the mountains and being able to hear the fighting going on at night (gunfire and such) he specifically said the fighting was going on in the mountains.

It could also be in the mountain province areas (Cordillera, Baguio, etc.). It's well documented that this area had a lot of activity during the war as the Japanese were unable to penetrate it due to the resistance from Guerillas and the locals. Camp John Hay is the closest possibility in the region.
Dunno if that helps.

There were also bases down south such as the air field in Del Monte, and the command in Davao all in Mindanao though majority of the conflicts were held in Luzon. Though fleet elements of the Asiatic Fleet were scattered throughout the islands, but the bulk of it was stationed south of Manila Bay, near Cavite.
I'll send you a link to a site that might help you.

I actually just finished my history course in the university. some tips:
Look for books that were written by Teodoro Agoncillo. No offense to the your country, but the war was depicted very differently through a Filipino's eyes. Be very careful of some books that have inaccurate facts.
I would suggest going to Jstor or google scholar. Jstor has the best sources online for this kind of topic.
Search for the work of Teodoro Agoncillo. :)

i forget if i said it earlier; but the base (or camp) my grandfather worked at was in charge of destroying and dismantling equipment. and they hired filipinos...
thank you all so much

what kind of equipment do they salvage and destroy? If the work in the base involves those kinds of operations they might possibly be the pampanga bases since those were the ones big enough to support operations like that and close enough to populated areas to be able to hire civilians.

i never asked specifically if he remembered, the only thing he says is that they were in charge of shipping out and destroying equipment during 1945ish so that the troops can leave.
and he said they hired many citizens, inlcuding women who did laundry and worked in offices, as well as men who got paid to do what the japanese POW's were forced to do.
