I am playing in a four week "campaign" event soon. The rules are:

1. Week 1, 200 points. Each week after, add 100 points. (So, 500 points the final week of the four.) At least 50% of the previous team must be used on the following team. For example, at least 100 points of the 200 point team must be used to make the 300 point team. At least 150 points of the 300 point team must be on the 400 point team, etc. Feats do not count for the 50% calculation, only figures.

2. Each team must follow a "theme". This is something different than the rulebook defines; we don't play by the themed team rules. Primarily since most of the people at the venue have not bothered to learn the most current rules. :) As of now, one person plans to play a Fantastic Four themed team - I assume based on TA symbols. One person plans on playing an Asgardian "theme" which will probably be a legit theme team. I would think any nongeneric keyword team would suffice, but it is a little touchy-feely. I intend to make teams that are keyword theme teams with some basic comic accuracy.

3. As far as cardboard goes, we use feats but not BFC. I won't use Warbound because I find it too cheesy.

I need to make two teams to play, one for me and one for my son. I have sketched out two preliminary teams. We play in a week, so if you have any suggestions, in particular comments regarding feat choices, please respond.

JSA Version 1.0
My basic goal was to play Specter as soon as possible (400 point team due to the 50% requirement) with Liberty Belle (who is just awesome). I was more or less forced to reverse engineer the rest of the teams in order to satisfy the 50% requirement; in particular, Jennifer-Lynn Hayden only made the team because I needed a figure between 66 points and 82 points (only 5 JSA team members are in that range) and she is the only flier. The TK is a nice bonus. The rest of my choices are pretty solid, I think.

200 points
CR010 Liberty Belle - 84 pts
- Unstoppable - 5pts
LG021 Stargirl (Vet) - 63 pts
CD023 Dr. Mid-Nite - 43 pts
- Running Start - 5pts

300 points
CR010 Liberty Belle - 84 pts
- Unstoppable - 5pts
LG021 Stargirl (Vet) - 63 pts
- Forcefield - 10pts
LG207 Jennifer-Lynn Hayden - 74 pts
OR086 Sandman - 59 pts
- Running Start - 5pts

400 points
CR010 Liberty Belle - 84 pts
LG207 Jennifer-Lynn Hayden - 74 pts
CR059 The Specter - 234 pts
- Protected - 8pts

500 points (499 points used)
- Alias - 3pts (on either Liberty Belle or Specter)
CR010 Liberty Belle - 84 pts
- Unstoppable - 5pts
CR059 The Specter - 234 pts
- Protected - 8pts
LG021 Stargirl (Vet) - 63 pts
CD023 Dr. Mid-Nite - 43 pts
OR086 Sandman - 59 pts

Flaws: No outwit, no perplex, limited probability control, susceptible to energy explosion (true of JSA teams in general), no room for Flash or Green Lantern

Gotham City Good Guys Version 1.0
The basic plan here was to start with the 120pt chase Batman and 79pt Crisis Nightwing and see what happens. Feat choices are pretty rough currently.

200 pts (199 used)
AA099 Batman - 120 pts
CR029 Nightwing - 79 pts

300 pts (299 used)
AA099 Batman - 120 pts
- Lunge - 5pts
CR029 Nightwing - 79 pts
- Armor Piercing - 10 pts
CR014 Batgirl - 70 pts
- Armor Piercing - 10pts
- Lunge - 5pts
(I normally play LMD and Alias on Bats, and 3x Lunge. That is a solid 299 pt team but have been unable to break through imp/inv on power cosmic pieces too many times recently. Batgirl has swung and hit so many times with flurry and not done any damage that I really want the AP on her. Lunge on her is also a must. The others are optional)

400 pts (399 used)
AA099 Batman - 120 pts
- Lunge - 5pts
- Alias - 3pts
CR029 Nightwing - 79 pts
- Armor Piercing - 10 pts
- Alias - 3pts
CR014 Batgirl - 70 pts
- Armor Piercing - 10pts
- Lunge - 5pts
BA014 Alfred - 30 pts
AA004 The Question - 37 pts
AA006 Gotham City Detective - 27 pts
(Again, feats are a first draft, but something to work with for now.)

500 pts
AA099 Batman - 120 pts
- Lunge - 5pts
CR029 Nightwing - 79 pts
CR014 Batgirl - 70 pts
- Armor Piercing - 10pts
- Lunge - 5pts
CD218 Superman - 211 pts - Although Superman does not have the Gotham City keyword, he has the Batman Ally team ability, so I feel it is a legit choice for inclusion on the "Batman" team. I don't foresee any complaints from the other players.

Flaws:? Too much reliance on tricks and not enough damage potential. My son may not have the patience to play it well.

I have found it to be an interesting design problem, if you would like to try your hand at an alternative team, I would love to see what you can come up with. My DC collection is much deeper than my Marvel collection, so I probably need to stick with DC. In particular, I've been stuck trying to figure out a proper JLA/Justice League/Justice League of America team. I'm not sure where to start such a beast.

I will try to update how our teams fair and what we are facing in the coming weeks.

I really like this idea, and would like to play in such a campaign. Each of your choices is a good one.

The JLA (all eras) is tough, but they do have some good sub-100 point figures (Atom, Black Canary, Plastic Man, OotS Batman, etc.) If you went that route, I wouldn't try to be era-pure, because aside from Justice League Europe, I don't think you can easily build the 200/300/400/500 and still have effective teams.

I would probably go for the Bat Ally force, just because the way that "family" scales up seems particularly comic accurate to me. Other DC choices that tempt me are the LSH and the Titans.

I would rather use the Man of Steel rather than the NGN Superman. MOS has the gotham keyword plus is more stable than NGN

I wish I had a Man of Steel, but I don't. NGN Supes is my best option if I want to go that route. Thanks for pointing it out though, I would have missed him.

I had pondered playing LSH, but it seems like an awful lot of wildcard TA without anything to copy. I could play the ATA, but that didn't seem all that useful. I could be wrong.

I've been thinking a little that I might be approaching the coming campaign by over thinking it. Perhaps it might be best to play with a flexible team and be able to respond to the other teams. In the DCU, that team is most likely the JLA in one incarnation or the other.

Since we don't follow keywords, I think I will try to limit myself to the original seven (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter) and the recruits from the 60's and 70's (Green Arrow, Atom, Hawkman, Black Canary, Elongated Man, Red Tornado, Hawkgirl, Zatanna).

Since the idea of the team is to be flexible, I haven't sketched out the higher point teams, but I was thinking of starting like this.

JLA Version 1.0
200 points
JL014 Green Arrow - 70 pts
JL103 Flash - 70 pts (Starro)
- Armor Piercing - 10pts
IO001 Batman - 47 pts
- Alias - 3pts

300 points
IO001 Batman - 47 pts
JL103 Flash - 70 pts
- Armor Piercing - 10pts
- Maneuver - 8pts
CR023 Green Lantern - 157 pts
- Protected - 8pts

400 points
CR023 Green Lantern - 157 pts
243 points of whatever seems best to beat the opposition.

Again, comments or suggestions would be most welcome. Best.
