View Full Version : Newbie - Any way to win without taxi and medic?

I'm playing since 2 months and pissing my buddies totally off by nearly always choosing taxi/medic - combinations.
Newest development is that before building teams we declare medics as forbidden. So are there certain tactics to smash such teams for example by not using flyers or medics?

Batman stealth teams can work on the right maps.
You'll still p*** off you friends though ;)

High Speed!!!
Whirlwind, Quicksilver, or Nightcrawler are all excellent at tying up and killing Medics (and PC'ers like the Witch or Black Cat).
As far as taxi's; either use them yourself or have REALLY tough guys who can take the hit from the taxi'd guy and then move forward and kick their tail.

of course it's possible; its just inconvenient. Not using flying figures to taxi guys in to range attack the medic into irrelevance is a big handicap. I guess that leaves Jean Grey & Mandroid to telekinetic lift guys in.
If medics are causing you troubles, you need rookie black panther.
Free-move into hindering terrain for stealth, outwit the medic's support, and you're set. Woot! Rookie panther, Rookie Jean Grey, Vet Cyclops for 136 points and then build up from there for 200 or 300 point army. Panther deals with the medic, jean tk lifts cyclops way in, cyclops blasts anything that moves.

It's called strategy, I rarely use taxis as taxis, or medics for that matter, and I win half my games.
Figure out how to manipulate team abilities and running shot/charge.
Max out on RCE, Outwit, Probability Controle, and Perplex. Every fig should have at least one of these.
Always outwit defence powers, then RCE the target with as much Perplex and Sheild in the mix as possible. Use Probability when you role rubbish attacks.
Moving is purely to bring the enemy into range of your combo, or to strategicaly withdraw. Never break away if he HtHs you, (too risky) and without a Medic, there's no point.
If you can get a leadership fig, or one with TK, then even better...

I rarely use much range (the closest figure to a sniper I regularly use is V Doc Ock) so I almost never play with medics. Once everyone's in b2b, they're virtually useless.
That being said, you NEED taxis to get close combat guys into position. Charge has a max range of five, and not many people have five. Without taxis, snipers will rip a CC team to shreds. I wish it wasn't like that - I'd love to have teams that were nothing but Thing, She-Hulk, Hercules, etc - but even with charge, the ranged combatants simply have too much of an advantage to avoid using taxis.

It's not impossible to win without a medic or taxis. Everyone will have these limitations so it's not like you are being singled out. I've noticed that a lot of people state that their games get house rules eliminating options that some players don't like. If they want this rule then I would look into Charge and Running shot to keep your mobility. And with a no medic rule, look hard at the Xmen. Swapping damage and a regeneration power can give you some of that extra pop.
No medic usually doesn't include V-Jean Grey, U-Captain America or Dr. Strange. Those are named figures and are much more difficult to remove with "no medics". If you say you can't use their support power, then you have to adjust the point cost to compensate for the lost power.

Go with Chargers, and TKers if you find yourself really lacking in mobility (V She-Hulk, V Sabretooth are great ones).
As for Medics, I never use them (with the exception of Jean Grey in my X-men), and I do alright in our pick-up games.

Thank you guys, some pretty nice ideas. Some I used before (V-BlackPanther really rocks the house:D ), some I WILL use.
To PantherPriest... Well I certainly have an idea of the meaning of the word strategy;) . But i just started this thread to keep our games interesting. I'm not interested in winning each game by working out new ideas how to improve my taxi- and/or medic- use. The idea was just to keep it funny for all and to find out if teams with taxi/medic and without are balanced.
I'm glad to see they are :) .
PS - Sorry bout talking dirty in my first post. English is not my mother language (as you may have noticed;) ) and i thought the "p***ing" word I used was rated as... colloquial but not a real curse. I'll try to hide my origin in the future :D .
