View Full Version : Help me out with Brotherhood & X-Men teams
At the next tournament I play in I'm thinking of using all Brotherhood or all X-Men.
Here's what I think look like the best Brotherhood teams I've come up with.
Brotherhood 1
V-Magneto
E-Sabretooth
E-Blob
V-Pyro
V-Avalanche
R-Scarlet Witch
Brotherhood 2
U-Juggernaut
V-Magento
V-Pyro
E-Avalanche
R-Quicksilver
Brotherhood 3
U-Juggernaut
V-Magneto
E-Pyro
R-Avalanche
R-Scarlet Witch
Team 1 has good ranged attackers and decent close combat with PC for support. I picked E-Sabretooth over V because his stealth will protect him from a Firelord blast. I put in Blob because he's got 3 damage to start, so he is a threat when put next to a taxi or support. However, I'm tempted to swap him with LE Toad (which I have) to get someone with greater mobility. R-Rogue could be useful there, too, since she also has toughness.
Teams 2 & 3 are similar. I picked U-Juggernaut because he's better than R and cheaper than E. He keeps 3 damage and invulnerability as long as E, but loses a point on attack. I can also carry him if I need to. I'm a bit more partial to Team 3 because of Scarlet Witch, but I lose some ranged attack power by including her. I hope the loss of attack value is made up with the reroll opportunity, though.
Now for the X-Men
X-Men 1
Nightcrawler
V-Cyclops
V-Jean Grey
V-Wolfsbane
E-Logan
X-Men 2
V-Professor X
V-Cyclops
V-Jean Grey
V-Wolfsbane
E-Logan
Obviously the only differences are Nightcrawer in one and Prof. X in the other. I've tried out the first team a bit and have liked the mobility of Nightcrawler for striking at vulnerable support pieces. I use Wolfsbane as my damage trader then heal her with Jean. She's also a backup attacker when I need her. Logan sits out in hindering terrain to try to draw my opposition to the rest of my team. If they don't take the Logan bait, I send Nightcrawler out to harrass them into doing something.
I've not tried out Team 2 yet. I do think the Leadership will be useful, and having a second 11 attack with 10 range will certainly help. However, I'm worried by lack of mobility.
So, what are some other combinations I should try out for both of these teams?

IMHO brotherhood isn't even remotely playable yet...
Xmen however are...but I think you should think about using V-Rogue, for the mobility. Also Logan is not X-men[LE-wolverine is if you have him tho]. And finally if you have LE-wolfsbane by god use her..she actually has the mobility needed to do her damage trading!!

first of all nice teams !
Brotherhood team 1 I like the best of the 3 (I prefer Sabrtooth over Juggernaut).
With V Magneto you have a very strong second powerfig.
Well you could use E/V Quicksilver or E Rogue if you wanted to boost the Brotherhood.(representing them as just before they went good !).
X-teams:
Well.. I would take the second team prof x is very good, but Nightcrawler is the best unique ever (and I still need him), so maybe include him in that team ?
P.S. Logan=Wolverine "invis-slayer" so he's just as much part of the X-men as any other X-fig !!
I know Logan doesn't have X-Men ability, but he's still the same person as Wolverine. I don't want to downgrade any of the other X-Men figures to put in Wolverine because he's not as good as Logan. Logan is effectively my sacrifice piece. I expect to lose him first, and I place him to draw in my opponent into close combat with him. I hope I don't lose him before he gets in a strike, of course, but at worst I'll trade him for a higher point figure. LE Wolverine I do have, but he's 70 points. I'm only willing to weaken Wolfsbane to fit someone different in, and I can't get back enough points for Wolverine. One option is to make Wolfsbane R and upgrade Logan to V.
I've considered Rogue in place of Nightcrawler and downgrade Wolfsbane to E. I'm really liking the flexibility of Nightcrawler, though, because I can hit the other side of the map with him in a single turn if I want (toss him with Jean, hypersonic to the back for a strike). I don't have LE Wolfsbane unfortunately. However, the only difference with the Vet is an extra click of BCF and a 7 attack on that last BCF click.
I'll see if I can come up with a team I like that uses Nightcrawler and Prof. X on the same side. Maybe X in place of Cyclops? That's possible, but I don't know if I can do without a cannon. Of course I'd be able to use my opponent's cannons against him with MC.
I feel that the Brotherhood is very playable. I'm tempted to put in V-Sabretooth for Team 1 for the charge which helps make up for only 1 flier. However, since the V lacks stealth I have to protect him more carefully. I'd then replace Blob with Toad for a second charging piece. E or V Quicksilver I could also put in there, and I've used them with a mostly Brotherhood team before. E-Rogue would help the Brotherhood's lack of fliers, but then her team ability is wasted without any other X-team.

I agree with your mobility concerns. Now before X-Plosion, Rogue and Nightcrawler are the most mobile pieces in the game. IMO, V Rogue is a critical improvement over her E version because of her Charge. But I was unable to find the points to fit her in.
Her's my take:
E Rogue - 77 pts
R Logan - 40 pts
U Cyclops - 39 pts
U Nightcrawler - 83 pts
R Prof X - 59 pts
----------------------
Total 298 pts
This team has both Rogue and Nightcrawler for mobility. It also keeps Cyclops' 10 ranged attack. Prof X drops to 8 range (which is still pretty good) and keeps the Leadership. And if you plan on using Logan as bait, his R version should suffice since he still has Stealth, Flurry with 3 Damage, and then BCF.
Unfortunately, your damage battery (Wolvesbane) is missing. Most critically, this team loses Jean's TK for mobility and her healing.

This team also loses attack power. Nightcrawler is the only one with a 10 attack. If I use an X-team in tournament play, I expect to be up against at least one Firelord team. I need the 11 attack of either V-Cyclops or V-Prof X to have a reasonable chance to hit. I picked E-Logan as bait because if he gets hit with a 3 click attack, he's put right on his Flurry/BCF combo for a deadly return strike. R-Logan doesn't have that combo.
Going from your idea, though, here's what I would do. I think the key is not to include Nightcrawler and Rogue on the same team because they're both expensive.
E-Rogue
E-Logan
U-Cyclops
E-Prof X.
R-Jean Grey
E-Wolfsbane
or
Nightcrawler
V-Wolfsbane
E-Logan
U-Cyclops
R-Prof X
R-Jean Grey
First team is a bit more mobile with both Jean and Rogue, and it has two 10 attacks. The second team gives me 3 figures with a 10 attack. I'd use Wolfsbane and Jean as damage batteries, since Jean can take some without losing TK and Wolfsbane needs a click to get dangerous.

You have a good point about wanting to have pieces with high attack. You will not only encounter Firelord but likely a team with R Inv Girl too. If upgrading to a 10 attack is your goal, how about this variation on one of your teams:
V-Rogue 88pts
E-Logan 49pts
U-Cyclops 39pts
R-Prof X. 59pts
R-Jean Grey 31pts
E-Wolfsbane 32pts
------------------------
Total: 298 pts
In downgrading Prof X from E to R, you lose 1 attack from each of his clicks with a maximum of only 9 attack. But, that's all you really lose. This allows you to upgrade Rogue to V where she gains 1 attack on her clicks for a max of 10, has 2 extra clicks of 3 damage, and most importantly gains 2 clicks of Charge to further increase your mobility. I've found first strike is the best way to win and both Charge and Run & Shoot are powerful.
That's a pretty good lineup, too. I could toss Logan out for bait. When my opponent moves in or sets up, toss Rogue next to Logan, then pick him up and charge. Follow up with Logan. Trade Jean's push with Wolfsbane if I got Leadership that turn. Downside is that Cyclops doesn't have Run & Shoot in his U version.

Very true about U Cyclops. Many people don't like him because he seems weak, but I love him. He's cheap and does 3 damage at 10 range. What's not to like? Sure he isn't as powerful as his other versions, but if you are trying to piece together a team and you need to find some points to fit someone else in, downgrading to U Cyclops gains you the points while allowing you to keep that 10 range threat.
Good luck in your tournament. Please post what team you used and how you did.
I will. I don't know when I'll be able to play again, though. This weekend is too busy to play. Next weekend may not be possible, either. Two weekends without playing Hero Clix! How will I survive! ;)

Invis-slayer:
You couldn't be more wrong. The Brotherhood is extremely playable and won our tournament last weekend. See thread "Brotherhood vs Firelord/Vision and other battles"
No offense, I'm sure many people overlook the Brotherhood. But, I love them.
Keleko:
Nice teams and thoughts. However, the Brotherhood's biggest advantage is their "free" moves. I find great success with the Brotherhood by having an Action Advantage over my opponent. I will typically have more pieces and more moves every turn. Only about half of the team needs to have the free move since the others can utilize the regular alloted actions. Yes, my figures are "weaker" but I've beaten many tougher figures with them.
Although, Toad doesn't make my favorite 300pt Brotherhood team, He is an Excellent piece. Use HIM!!!!! In one tournament (a sealed booster tourny) I used Vet Toad to kill E. WhiteQueen!!!! Yes, Toad did all the damage. He was helped only by Black Cat (rerolls). Speaking of this, The Brotherhood does need Scarlet Witch! They do not have the highest attack values. And, I always use Rookie Hydra agents (+1 attack). Pretend they are lacky mutant Morlocks with (Hydra) +1 to hit mutant power. They are great for the bonus to attack or for using to tie-up the opponent.
In the sealed tourny my defeated opponents included R. Thor, V. Sandman, and E. WhiteQueen (different teams). My toughest figure was E. Human Torch for 59pts. (It was 200pt teams from random figures in 2 boosters).
