LeeMac's Venue Tournament

OK guys, we'll give this a go. I'm sure everyone will have suggestions and ways to tweak it, but to save time and effort, i'll just lay out the rules for the first tournament and we can adjust it for the next one.


Marvel (we should be finished in time for a tBatB tourney next)
400pts
at least one figure from HoT
restricted (check the units section)
theme bonuses will apply


everyone can send their teams to me and i will post them all on this thread. i will randomly draw for match-ups. four rounds. winner will be best record followed by victory points.

if you choose to use bfc cards submit three with your team and you can use each one one round and the blank one round.

roll and use theme adjustments to choose map (i would suggest peers tool). high roll chooses map, other player chooses side. high roll goes first.

roll for objects and replace with special objects if you so choose.

if you have a rules question you can ask me or feel free to ask in the fantasy league thread.

make sure your attack rolls are VERY descriptive. include any perplex modifiers and/our outwitted powers that may be relative to the attack. also include specific TK locations and RS or Charge finishing locations.

cheese. i dont encourage it as i hope this will be a fun group, but lets not whine about any of the teams people build. it may be someone's first chance to use a particular figure or combo.

i will add prizes in addition to 1-12 for things like theme and worst luck (from my own stuff unless others want to contribute).

Retirement isn't officially canned. And nothing prevents a venue from running a restricted event if they choose.

Well my venue still goes by the restricted rules, anything from Origin and Supernova and above is all still restricted.

LeMac there must have been some mistake,I did not sign up (the leage looks fun but I just don't have time). My post earlier (in the season 6 thread) was because I was restless for game 2 to start not that I was signing up. Sorry if my post was misleading :cry:.

Actually mich, Print and Play doesn't do anything for restricted/unrestricted. All it does is say that you can print out and play any feat card rather than having to have a physical cardboard copy from a booster.

So if playing restricted, you can print out Origin feats if you don't have one. If playing Unrestricted, you can print out Mutant Mayhem feats. For our purposes, Print and Play means nothing. At least how that is how my venue plays it, and it seems to make sense.

Either way, I'm not worried too much about it.

just some background info: i originally said only legal feat because thats how my venue played as well. however, after thinking on the "spirit of the game", if you believe wizkids statement from years ago saying that retirement was to keep new players from the disadvantage of not having reasonable access to older figures then the new print and play means that everyone has equal access to older feats and bfc, making the retirement of cardboard needless.

anyway, even though i have a strong aversion to some of the feats out there, it seems that in "the spirit of the game" there is no reason to restrict feats and bfc.

so basically, i see both sides, but we will allow all of them here.

I say build the team with all of the feats available and build one with feats starting from SuperNova :) I would imagine that all feats are allowed but you got to ask LeeMac to know for sure :)

Dude, you live in Orlando? I lived there for a long time, still go back and visit my family a couple of times a year. I used to play at a lot of venues out there and was an envoy at a couple. It was years ago, but just wondering if you play anywhere down there.

Really? When? I worked at Disney World for years when I lived in Orlando. Did a lot of shows, none of which still exist.

I did a College Program during the Fall of 2002 and worked WWTBAM. (For those who don't know the lingo, that is Who Wants to be a Millionaire.) That was the easiest job EVER. The talent were mostly really nice, the job was different every show (different questions) and I saw 6 people win the whole thing. (For a cruise, not a million bucks).

Funny story there is I got to meet Meredith Viera right as she was going to take over the daily Millionaire during a Super Soap Weekend.

Also got to do a MENSA special event where they did a show with MENSA level questions. I think of myself as moderately intelligent, but I couldn't even pronounce most of the questions, let alone answer them!


Then after I went back to school and graduated (with a BA in the ever useful Anthropology), I moved back and worked full time again at Studios in 2005 and started at Star Tours. Fun spot, but kinda boring at times. After a few months, I got my wish and transferred to GMR (Great Movie Ride) as a Tour Guide. 25 minute spiel to memorize, but it was worth it. Still my all time favorite job that I've ever had. And that includes teaching. There was some drama backstage there as it was real cliquey but being an active part of making people's vacation (hopefully) a little more fun was awesome.

Even got to do a show for a celebrity! A real A-lister! Lou Diamond Phillips! He barely paid attention, but his wife was hot and his daughters were cute.

I did "American Vybe" at EPCOT. I was the lead in the "Tarzan Rocks" show at the Animal Kingdom park and did a bunch of street shows at the parks. We probably worked there at the same time.

Yeah, me and vicious finished our League 1 game in 2 days, then this popped up a day later and finished it in 2 days also. ;) Love speed play by post! LOVE IT!! ;)

Hi, Lee.

I would like to call for an extension on my game vs TVK, at least untill next Thursday night. I'll be on my Easter vacations from Friday to Monday without internet access and I wasn't aware we only had 10 days to play the games. My fault, cause it was written on the first post, I know that... And the fact that we live in such different timezones (you know I'm from Portugal), makes it hard to get more turns going. TVK also didn't realize my last move and we had a 2 day hiatus waiting for his next move.

We probably won't finish the game anyway, but at least that will give us a chance to get some points that can decide the final outcome.

I think it would be fun to have everyone in a group get 1 of the SR Duos and have to build a Modern Age team around it. Maybe even make it random on who gets which one Duo, and then they have to submit a team around it.

Blue and Gold is actually a really good Duo for Team Building. They don't have the limitations of cost that the others do and are useful on every click in my book.

for the time being, i'll keep running them as long as people want to play (and everyone stays civil and shows good sportsmanship).

i'm open to any suggestions on the format. after this tournament is over, there will probably be more to evaluate, but so far, it seems to be working well to me.

as for the two games that missed the deadline...

round 3 will start today, however, seeing that both (4) of you failed to complete even 10 rounds :speechles, you will have until 11:59pm wednesday of this week to finish (or complete at least 10 rounds).

everyone will have two weeks from that time to complete round 3.

obviously the player who went 2nd to start the game will get the last turn.

if 10 rounds are not completed by wednesday, then the judge (me) will decide what to do with you.

sorry guys, this last one was kind of on me, but Ice was having trouble with his game moving at a decent pace and since he was in contention for the finals, i wanted to give every opportunity for the game to play out. i should have communicated better with the rest of the league, but oh well. live and learn.

It might be kind of limiting since those figures do cost a lot and hardly any figures that are filler that are theme in the Constructed or Modern Age format. If it was unrestricted..maaaaybe.

i was thinking something like this:

Blackest Night Scenario

each player constructs two teams:
1) a 650 pt hero/white lantern team
2) a 806 pt villain/black lantern team

- the hero team must have at least one green lantern or atom figure. (blackest night starter figs are perfectly fine)

- the villain team must have nekron w/protected

- villain figures that are not "black lantern chase" figures can only use special powers on their first click. after that they only have steal energy and willpower

- villains have the "power levels rising" as a trait

- if nekron is KO'd, villains lose the "power levels rising" trait and willpower

- hero's must come from the blackest night storyline (i.e. no bruce wayne bats)

- villains can be anyone who have ever been dead in the DC universe

- initiative winner picks hero or villain

- in addition to normal objects, black lanterns will place the black lantern. heroes will place any lanterns that have a corresponding character represented on their team.

or at the very least they could have to start with at least two of the same colors (or different?) on their first click.

yeah the villains don't get to use all their powers, but if you have willpower and straight stats of like 3 damage and 8 or 10 range...you don't really need powers.

And yeah in the comic they had a big advantage, but in a tourney, when you give so much advantage on one side, it's going to win quite a bit of the time. Even 100 pts is still a lot of an advantage. I'd want to be villains most of the time cuz they're going to outaction the heroes quite a bit of the time...assuming they don't play all the chases.
