View Full Version : Who wouldn't you mind seeing as a Duo?

I figure that there are some figures out there that would work better as duo's because 1) They are only seen together or 2) there is a specific storyline where they are seen together more than apart.

The obvious choice for #1 are the Wonder Twins and Mas y Menos, but I'm sure there are a couple more options out there.

#2 seems to be what BatB is focusing on, and I have a feeling (especially with the preview of Metallo and the hint that he may have minions, which would probably be Metallo Men) that we will see more "Whatever happened to the man of Tomorrow" figures, which could include a Lana Lang and Jimmy Olsen duo in costume (especially if the rumored Kryptonite Man is true and the Lex/Brainiac is from the story as well).

I would happy to see all 3 of those potential duo's, what about you guys?

This set is just the tip of the duo iceberg. Imagine all the sidekick & mentor duos you could have. Flash/Kid Flash, GA/Speedy, Wonder Woman/Wonder Girl, etc. would all be appropriate as duos imo.

For the most part I dislike Duos. They are fairly less effective then having their separate counterparts. However there is one duo I would like to see. I think they should make a Red Lantern/Green Lantern Guy Gardner duo. Thats one duo that makes sense to me, a figure that can't be better represented by two separate figures.

I would like to have had a Green Lantern (Kyle Rayner) and Green Arrow (Connor Hawke) duo and a GL (Kyle) and Flash (Wally) duo. I am beyond sick of seeing Barry and Hal both in clix and comics at this point. A uperboy (Connor Kent) and Robin (Tim Drake) duo would have also been great. World's Finest the next generation on one base.

Seconding the Cable/Deadpool.

Yes, it would be overcosted. But it would still rock.

I am not a fan of duos, but some that have the potential to seem to "make sense" to me:

DC's Punch and Jewelee. Prior to Punch's death, they really were never apart. I'd fear that they would become severely overcosted (see Trickster&Pied Piper.

If the characters are being remade, I have no objection to duos that represent very-specific storylines, which appears to be the case of the majority of BatB duos.

I brought this up on a previous thread before. It would be an awesome looking duo fig and the character needs a re-make with special powers anyway, so why not a duo.

As ever, I generally, really only want a Duo of characters who are physically linked and/or just don't operate more than a few feet apart. Warstar (B'Nee and C'Cil), Hammer & Anvil and the like. Consequently, they'd be fairly rare. In past polls I've seen some suggest the Blood Brothers, because they generally work close together, but since their power level functions as a function of their proximity, and defeating them generally called for getting some distance between them, a Duo wouldn't be representative.

As tidge noted, Punch & Jewelee would be one of the "few feet apart" exceptions, combined with the idea that separate pieces would be of little interest; much the same applied to Devil Dinosaur & Moon Boy. A clever use of Special Powers could similarly see me liking a Falcon and Redwing piece.

Regardless of how playable they may end up making them, though, the bulk of the pieces showing up as Duos are of no interest to me.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I'd like to see minion/generic duos.

Shield Infiltration Team, Hydra Heavy Machine Gunners, Gotham City Looters, Maggia Enforcers, etc.

Madrox as a duo with himself would be awesome. Or, to be extra goofy, Madrox as a duo with each member of the current X-Factor.

On a more serious note, I'd like Cap and Falcon, Blob and Toad, Spidey (Black Suit) and Black Cat, Spider-man and Scarlett Spider, Blue Beetle and Booster Gold, Fire and Ice, Batman (Dick) and Robin (Damian), Beast Boy and Cyborg, and some Maximum Carnage themed duos: Spidey and Venom, Shriek and Doppelganger, Carrion and Demogoblin.

Wolverine and Punisher
Wolverine and Colossus
Cap and Namor

I've been reading and collecting comics since the late '60s. I'm only in this because of the characters and the stories they come from. Coming up with a long, long list of characters I'd like to see working together on clix teams is easy.

Why would I want to waste any of those pairings on a Duo? I want both characters to be well represented, with one or more bonuses being applied when they're played together, as appropriate. That's how these pairings are best handled.

I don't want to be stuck with having to play it as a scenario where Spider-man and the Human Torch have been shackled together by some of their enemies. I want them to be able to move independently and not share a single dial & target. The Duo concept is fundamentally mis-applied to most of the characters who've gotten it.

DarkBlueAnt
03/21/2010, 13:30
Duos need to be reserved for either:

A. People who literally can't function alone
or
B. People who have had an entire comic series specifically about them being a duo.

I want to see Misty Knight and Colleen Wing the most, but also Wonder Twins, Cable and Deadpool, and Cap and Falcon.

Then don't play duos. Nobody is forcing you. This thread is titled "Who wouldn't you mind seeing as a Duo?" not "do you think duos are a waste of a mechanic?"

I only get upset by these posts because we all know a ton of people hate duos, you don't need to keep saying it over and over again, especially on a thread where some people are talking about ones they would like to see.

End of rant.

cable/ Deadpool.
Aurora/Northstar
Fenris twins.

And I really want a Red And Slim duo figure....
With...Telepathic Assualt....Red and Slims Line of fire is only blocked by Indoor blocking terrain.
Reprsenting Jeans ability to tell cyke where the target is and he can fire or ricochet away at them. And it would be a Trait.

Been preaching that for ages. However I'd prefer a 90s version of them with KEtch being the Ghost Rider and Blaze as the hellfiregun-slinging human, but both on their respective hellfire bikes (kinda like the cover of "Spirits of Vengeance #8")

I would like to see some duos representing superheroes that have fighting pets (kind of a variation on the sidekick).

1. Ka-Zar & Zabu
2. Aquaman & Topo
3. Catwoman (from the olden days) and some big cats.
4. Red Wolf & Lobo
5. Orion & Sturm
6. Erik Killmonger & Preyy

...and for people whose pets get into the fights less frequently, perhaps a special power that lets them act as a duo for just part of their dial. This could represent characters like the Falcon & Redwing and Dr. Mid-Nite & Hooty.

In most, probably all, of those cases, it would be a waste to have a single clix featuring the pet. As a duo with their master, though, they could reflect that beast-master aspect featured in a lot of characters.

Hmmm....Speaking of beast-masters, maybe characters known for controlling groups of generic animals could work this way as well.

Venomm (with venomous snakes)
Stegron (with dinosaurs)
Blackwing (with hordes of bats)
Hellhound (with attack hounds)

Ka-Zar/Zabu
Blue Beetle/Booster Gold
Andrea Strucker/Andreas Strucker
Tweedledee/Tweedledum
Joker/Harley Quinn
Cable/Deadpool
Big Barda/Mister Miracle (as non-Elseworlds characters)
NYX/X-23 (they were pretty tight for a while)
Ambush Bug/Cheeks the Toy Wonder (ha-ha-ha?)
Xavin/Karolina Dean
Stargirl/STRIPE (he used to carry her into battle, remember?)
Flashback/Fade (if they ever started doing Milestone characters)
Icon/Rocket (he's mainstream now, stands to reason she is too)
Mercy/Hope
X/XX (old Bat-villain)
Deathstroke/Ravager
Touch/Go (TMNT villain. Not gonna happen, but would still want)

Just a few

I wouldn't mind seeing some creative use of the Duos, such as Karu-Sil of the Sinestro Corps. She's constantly flanked by a pack of energy construct creatures that act as her pack, so I think you could apply the Duo ability to her. Or getting a bit more obscure and a bit less likely to happen, Maggot with Eany and Meany.

I've even gone so far as to design my own Duo:

E The Hulk & Thing
Team: No Affiliation
Range: 0 :bolt:
Points: 200
Keywords: Brute, Monster

Trait - THEY MUST BE LARGE AND RUGGED: If damage dealt to The Hulk & Thing is not otherwise reduced, reduce the damage dealt by 1.

m-normala-duod-normalg-normal8917489174610163710163710153811173811174812174611153KOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOKOSpeed - LET'S DO IT, GREENY!: The Hulk & Thing can use Quake. Give The Hulk & Thing a power action; they can move up to their speed value and then as a free action either (1) use Quake or (2) make a close combat attack.
Speed - HULK CAN JUMP!(Leap/Climb)
Attack – (Super Strength)
Attack - IT'S SMASHIN' TIME!: When The Hulk & Thing use the Duo attack, they deal penetrating damage.
Defense – (Invulnerability)
Defense – (Willpower)
Defense – (Regeneration)
Damage - HULK NEEDS DISGUISE TOO(Shape Change)
Damage - HULK, DID YA HEAR WHAT THAT CREEP SAID ABOUT YOUR MOTHER?(Perplex)

That's just fanboy-ism though.

In general though I'm not very fond of Duos for their overuse. While some Duos make perfect sense the bulk of them, particularly in BatB, seem haphazard at best (including my own). To me Duos shouldn't be sensationalist pairings but characters that are defined by their union. Here are examples of the Duos I think are most fitting:

Batman & Robin
Hawk & Dove
Devil Dinosaur & Moon Boy
Power Man & Iron Fist
Cloak & Dagger
Gertrude Yorkes & Old Lace

Echo and Query
Cannon and Sabre (very obscure, heh)
Shadow Lass and Night Girl (why not?)
Ultra Boy and Mon-El (or Phantom Girl)
Dawnstar and Wildfire
Lightning Lad and Saturn Girl
Krypto and Ace the Bat-hound (from the Krypto cartoon show :) yes I watched that show - still loved it)
Supergirl and Superboy with the Legion TA (as seen in the Great Darkness where they smacked Darkseid or (is that Superman clone?) real good.)
Atom of Earth-One and Atom of Earth-Two
Green Lantern (Alan Scott) and Green Lantern (Hal Jordan)
Batman of Earth One and Batman of Earth Two
Flash and Elongated Man
Hawkman and Hawkgirl (or Hawkwoman)
Aquaman and Aqualad
Superboy and Mon-El
Scarlet Witch and Vision (still surprised to see that they have not been made as Duo)
Wolverine and Kitty Pryde
the Tornado Twins
Bumblebee and Vox
the Bandage Twins (another obscure - :) Love those obscure heroes and villains)
the Flamesplasher Twins
the Sizematic Twins
the Darklight Twins

these are one of the post that makes me fear duos being overly made. no offense but duos should be for people who rely on being a duo like the examples the op made. just because somebody has teamed up before does not mean we need another position taken up in a set with duos of such examples like wolverine and punisher or cap and namor. im really not trying to be mean just putting in my opinion like everyone else so please don't take it like an attack.:ermm:

Just like there is a World's Finest for DC of Batman/Superman, I think it would be kind of neat to have a duo of some combination of:

Iron Man/Captain America
Captain America/Thor,
Thor/Iron Man

I also could see something like Superman/Wonder Woman, but that may be a bit too redundant because all it would do is give a pair of knockers hypersonic speed and 5 damage...interpret that as you wish.

The only problem with generic duos is that they can't be carried. Maybe if they can be carried by their generals I could get by with this.

I would actually be pretty stoked if duos could get some kind of ruling like this:
"Grounded Duos can be carried, but they count as 2 figures."

This way, they can't be carried by most characters, but they can be carried by GLC members, or by powers like Wiccan's "Group Teleport".

This is what the duo mechanics is best for (and best reserved for, in my opinion): representing characters who function in the comics as pairs and never as singletons. The Trickster / Pied Piper figure (designed around their "Defiant Ones" storyline) unintentionally symbolized what most duo figures wind up being: two characters hampered by being chained together, when you rather to be able to play them together as separate dials.

That said, there are certainly characters I would like to see duo dials used to portray, such as the following.

Query & Echo (as previously mentioned).

Punch and Jewelee (also mentioned).

Tweedledum and Tweedledee (the Tweeds are Batman foes).

Small groups of specialized generics (Mantamen, Robots, Schools of fish, etc.)

Small groups of supporting characters (such as, Lois Lane & Jimmy Olsen, or Etta Candy & Steve Trevor)

I'd like to think there'd be some way to apply the 'duo mechanic" to Triplicate Girl and The Terrible Trio

What he said. Every word.

In fact, even though I hate most of the duos we've been given, it's all because the mechanic just doesn't "work" for me from a background standpoint. But in rare cases where the characters are physically linked, I love it. I anxiously await a Warstar duo (in fact I axiously await ANY of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard...and a Gladiator remake wouldn't be turned down either...but that's a discussion for a different thread. :P).

I actually wouldn't have a problem with an Ant-Man/Wasp or Yellowjacket/Wasp duo. They *did* tend to work very closely together most of the time in battles, and for characters of their size, "working very closely together" = the same square on a Heroclix map!

invincible and atom eve
invincible and kid omni-man
allen the alien and nolan(omni-man)
dupli-kate
multi-paul
Isamot Kol and Vath Sarn(green lanterns)- they REALLY need to make this duo! these two always work together in the comics and they would rock.

scott and jean
scarlet spider and spider man

Rep for the Dupli-Kate and Multi-Paul suggestions...those are two characters that make sense as duos (because they make multiples of themselves, their multiples always work together, and they get better the more of them there are working together in a small area). And anything that gets me more Invincible characters is good for me!

The thing is, most of the duos look really cool, but infuriate me in a "they can't step apart" kind of way. Which is why Trickster & Pied Piper actually make me happy. So duos that'd fit that sort of criteria:

The Fenris Twins
Northstar & Aurora
Sabertooth & Wildchild

There's a lot of popular duos that'd be cool to look at, and probably good pieces, but something in me would probably prevent me from playing them most times.

I always wanted a Devil Dinosaur and Moonboy duo, and I got one. I love that figure too. They make a great addition to my Fallen Angels theme team. Was always a fan as a kid of them.

As an Avengers fan, I've spoiled with duos... Cap and Bucky (which I don't actually own one yet.), Cloak and Dagger (Secret Avengers) (or can be used in low-point games as just a duo), Power-Man and Iron Fist (great for Secret/New Avengers and Heroes for Hire teams), and now Iron Man and War Machine.

But what duos would I like to see? Well I think the DC BatB over did it on Duos. It is true that you can have too much of a good thing.

For Indy Clix:

Ace and Gary is a given!

As for Marvel, the given ones are...

1) Wolverine and Colossus (with a Fastball Special special power), which should be much more playable than the feat card.

2) Cable and Deadpool is a must! Can release this one around the time of the Deadpool movie.

3) Deadpool and Bob, Agent of HYDRA! This one would be classic!

4) Daredevil and Elektra! This one would rock!

5) Spider-Man and Black Cat - A match made it heaven.. And to really make this one interesting. Create a Peter Parker AE fig, and a Felicia Hardy AE fig.. If both of them are on a team, and they both reach their special AE power on any given turn.... they can transform into the Spider-Man and Black Cat duo fig! Now WizKids.... you can take my idea on this one and run it... and I guarantee it will boost your sales! Two figures become one, and this is the purrrfect pair to do it with... Pun intended!

6) Iceman and Firestar! I would love to have an Iceman and Firestar duo fig! Fire and Ice baby! Then I can team them with a Spider-Man relive one of the greatest Marvel cartoons in history. Come on WizKids... do it.. I guarantee this will boost your sales as well, especially to anyone that is 34 years to 40 years old. We'd buy it up!!!!!

7) Captain America and the Falcon! This is even more of a given than Cap and Bucky. They were paired up for so long... that's it's criminal not to have a Cap and Falcon duo!

8) Brothers Grimm - The original pair, not the second pair. This would rock!

9) Styx and Stone - Another classic villain just waiting for Duo treatment!

10) Aurora and Northstar to represent Canada! They can even have detached heads just like in South Park!

11) And I saved the best for last (I'm a biased Avengers fan)... Ant-Man and Wasp! But here is the catch: They need to create a new Damage Symbol: Tiny! I've said this as far back as Infinity Challenge... That the Wasp and Ant-Man should have been given a Tiny icon on their dial... They can fly, but cannot Carry... but could have phenomenal defense values and can break away automatically, and could go through walls in Indoor maps only (To represent flying through ventilation ducts, under doors, etc.)

Please WizKids! Make a Tiny Damage Symbol, instituted those ideas, and give me Wasp and Ant-Man dial.

Easily... the could make the Wolvie detach and have a stand alone dial if the power was used. There would be some way to accomplish it... such as a twist on the Alternate Ego mechanic.

Or in the very least, place a special token next to the base for the turn with the same stats as Colossus/Wolverine. If your attack against the token succeeds, remove it and deal C/W whatever damage would be dealt. The token can use Flurry and Blades, and it can be removed after any action. If C/W move more than 6 squares away from the token, remove the token.

I think many Duo's can be given powers like this. They are more confusing, but more playable.

I read everyone else suggestions before I chose mine, realizing I may have missed a few.

Albert & Elsie Dee
Andreas & Andrea Strucker A.k.a. "Fenris"
Wonder Twins
AOA Sabretooth & Wildchild
Ultimate Quicksilver & Scarlet Witch (impossible to separate and CREEPY!!!)
Cypher & Warlock (When they used to combine in battle)
Artie & Leech

I am with the group that hates the duos by nature......BUT.....there are times when they do fit pretty good (cloak and dagger, batman & robin etc) I think Duos should be reserved for required (or mostly required) characters. (Fenris only works when together)

I think if the mechanic was fixed. Like this: There should be a heroclix starter set that includes a "clix in" duo piece. What this would do, is you could choose any 2 clix, "clix them together" into this duo piece that locks both bases together, it should require two actions when used together for an action, but both power sets would be combined together until the characters were separated or one is ko'd If one was ko'd while connected, the other remaining character should take additional damage for still being "connected"

That way anyone could be a duo. I think they could also do special characters/powers this way, Like Captain Universe, the power cosmic, infinity gems. Or Shadow King, Venom Symbiote, Puppet Master etc. That way they can possess, or add additional power to any character chosen.

The above poster that mentioned Guy Gardner, Green Lantern, Red Lantern
as a duo had a good idea as well. Why not have the power stats on both sides of the dial for a character like this, and the sculpt could look like he's splitting in two. Then they can only use one side of the dial at a time, but damage would change the power stats on both sides as it turns, until the figure ko's. I similar concept could be used for characters like Two-Face, Sentry/Void, Spider-Man/evil Symbiote, Norman Osborne/Green Goblin, Or even Sleepwalker. Certain Clix could have him "sleeping" as a human, allowing sleepwalker to be used, and certain clix could have his human side awake and sleep walker would not be able to be used.

There's two-cents! :)

Lame? Well, you're welcome to hold any opinion you want about characters....

Not an obvious duo choice?
On this you're very wrong. I can think of exactly one S-F episode where they operated sepertately. (go ahead, guess how effective they were) Other than that? Always together.
Besides, there's two obvious duo sculpts for them that could look very cool with the right artist involved.
