My XPlosion Plans (what are yours?)

When IC came out, I bought a few boosters here and there until I got completely addicted. Traded, online and in person, to complete the set. Had a whole set as a collection before I wandered into a comic shop on tourney day, said, "What the h*ll, bought a starter, played the tournament and won. I'm the judge there now. :)

When HT came out, I thought I didn't like DC as much so I wouldn't get any. Yea, right. Bought a few boosters, a few more, finally traded for a set. I was also playing heavily by this time and just beginning to run my own games as well.

When CT came out, I took the jump to cases and bought one. Had it delivered to my doorstep the day after it was out and had a total blast ripping it open. Even called my friend over to share in the joy. I had never seen so many Heroclix at one time. Had nearly a whole set and plenty to trade (trading is fun!).

So with XPlosion on the way, I asked myself, "Self, how can I make this release even more fun than CT?" Easy, said Self. Buy 2 cases! So that's what I'm going to do. Been saving up since New Years and I plan to take the day off from work and wait for that beautiful FedEx truck to pull into my drive and unload 96 boosters of brand new XP Heroclixy goodness. I'll have my friend come over again and we will slowly open each booster, one by one to prolong to fun, while setting each freshly opened figure with figures like it until all of them are laid out in little REV, U and extras groups.

I am almost-literally bouncing off the walls with anticipation. 6 more weeks, 6 more weeks...must have Iron Man...and new Daredevil...

What are your XPlosion release plans?

My friend and I are splitting a case. We're also invinting two of our friends over when we open it up. What could be more fun than opening the case? Besides the sheer joy of opening the packs each person is going to open two packs at a time and were going to play lots of draft games untill the whole case is done with.

I ordered a case too. I'm opening it at a friends house. How much did you pay for yours? I got mine for $185 (including shipping) off of ebay. The dups that I get, I will sell to my friends. They can have Two good ones and Two junky ones for $4.00. What can I say, they're good friends, especially because I mooch so much free food off of them when we play.

I will be buying by the case this time around. I probably spent more bank buying boosters anyway and at least this way I have a way better chance of getting Uniques. I just can't wait. Does anyone elses wife think they are crazy?

However... when I do get my cases (gotta have the poster! see who the sculpters are) I usually invite a friend over... One by one we compare to see who would have the best force... I wind up complaining if I don't open more Uniques than him, even though they're all mine anyway...

Cases are the way to go my friends. The Good Dr and I plan on splitting two of them.

I note that everyone so far on this thread has agreed. Guaranteed uniques, you can't beat it.

I plan on buying 3 cases. Already have them pre-orderd at (heh - won't let me tell!) $550 for the three, not too bad.

My plan is to take the three cases, have my two primary clix buddies take a case each, and see who can pull the best pieces. (I get to keep them all, of course!)

My thinking is this: if I can get TWO full sets out of three cases (and at least one set of uniques), I can sell off a complete set right off the bat for an unholy amount of money. Plus, I'll have my complete set, and a bunch of leftovers to trade!

In any case, I bought two cases of CT, and was giddy as a schoolboy when I opened them.....

With Hypertime and Clobberin' Time, I set a 30-Booster limit on opening day.

I then traded like a fiend to complete my sets on both within a week. There's a certain adrenaline rush from juggling seven or eight trades at the same time.

This time, I'm buying for two. One of my best friends has gotten into the game enough that he's getting his own figures, and I'm helping by giving him as many of my dupes as he needs. I've already given him a bunch of figures already -- ones I had stupid amounts of, or ones that I felt were key figures to have.

So my promise is that once I complete my XPlosion set, he can have every remaining dupe I have that he needs.

In order to help him out, and as a show of love for my regular comic shop (support your local stores, darn it!), I pre-ordered a case of XPlosion, which should leave me plenty of nice figures to turn over.

The struggle for me is what to do about opening them.

I've just started playing with my buddy and his co-workers in "friendly" games, and part of me wants to hold on to the case and play a bunch of sealed booster matches that weekend.

The other side wants to repeat my strategy, busting everything open right away and turning into mister wheeler-dealer right off.

Well we have this amazeing game store that just opened in my mall. They don't quite seem to understand the value of heroclix which is just fine with us. Their prices are:

10 for uniques
3 for vet
2 for exp
1 for rookie

They are also trade with you on a one for one basis. So I can give them one wolverien U in exchange for one catwoman U. So we will probley buy a buntch of boosters and then just trade or buy singles for the rest.

well, i've pre-ordered a case, so my plans are as follows:
zero, eat less because i've spent all my money on plastic crack.
first, read all the stats and such when wizkids puts out the new figure list.
second, wet my pants.
3, change my pants.
4, wait in anticipation for my case to arrive.
5, pick up case/try and control my bladder.
6, as soon as i get a break from my classes i'm going to break that sucker open and set up shop in the main room of our dormroom and do the whole r/e/v, u, extras thing.
7, ooh and aah over my new toys*ahem* i mean gaming pieces.
8, try and trade my extra HC and all of my remaining MW and MtG to complete my set.
9, sit back and sigh once i've achieved that goal (ripping my hair out trying to trade for those i don't have until then)
and finally, come time for the next set: lather, rinse, repeat...

yep. so that's me. i'm going to have plastic people everywhere and a new, empty plano tackle box to store my set in as well as the diminishing shelf space above my computer for the rest of them. i've still got the extra veteran set of the FF that i got from the last case i ordered sitting on top of my coffee machine, fighting for truth, spandex, and the caffinated way.

ah... it's the little things in life that make it worthwhile.

most cases are about 200 bucks and they come with 48 boosters.

yeah, i ordered a case at gatheringground.com and, with shipping, it was about $209, so i'm happy with that. a good price is around that range, since it averages out to a little more than $4 per booster, rather than $7 and up if you bought them retail. and there's the almost perfect guarentee that you're getting 8 uniques, so i like them odds.

I like to buy locally and support the stores that run events. I've won a bunch of LEs at these stores, so it'd be a slap in their faces to buy a case elsewhere.

Especially since I sold most of those LEs specifically to mitigate the cost of Xplosion.

I'll probably do what I did with CT -- buy about 30 boosters, half from each of the two stores that run tourneys (paying ful retail price), trade off my extras to fill up the set, buy the remaining singles to finish the set, and then buy and trade for the extra generics I want to play with. In CT, one could never have enough Doombots, Mandroids, Snipers or AIM Medics. In Xplosion I'll probably want to fill up on Paramedics (if they're really in the set).

In all, I expect to spend about $450 Cdn (about $300 US) to build my set and get my extras. I could probably do it for less if I bought online, but what I save wouldn't be worth the goodwill one gets by shopping locally and building a relationship with the local retailers.

Yes, please post where you buy your cases and the price. ALso someone said they got their cases delivered the day that CT came out. Where did you get that case? I have heard nightmare stories of cases being delivered over 2-3 weeks after the sets came out, and want to avoid that. Thanks,

intend to buy a half-case (24) initially, keep my fingers crossed that I get a good selection of all the figures, including uniques. And them prepare to trade all my dupes with fellow clixers, over the preceeding few months to complete the set!

Like scowlingone, I too am getting my case from my local retailer. He gave me a price of $250, which was not too bad. I figure after shipping from an online retailer, I'm only spending $30-40 more, plus I get the case on release day!!

He's always open to trading dups, so I'm relatively sure I'll be able to aquire the extra uniques I need for a complete set with the left overs from my case. Not having to trade online means no postage expense and that means coming even closer to breaking even.

Supporting your local retailer is the way to go, IMHO.

I plan on buying 2 cases, so I should have lots of extras. Even with 2 cases I don't figure I'll get all the uniques (probably end up missing 1 or 2 and have dupes of some). So keep any extra uniques handy, get everyone else together, and we can all sit around and haggle over figs to swap!
