View Full Version : (V) Thor : playable or not?
I just got (V) Thor; his stats are awesome : he starts w/ a defense of 17, and attack of 12, 4 in damage; he has superstrenght almost the whole dial, invincibility then thoughness, running shot. Looks like the perfect fig, bub.
Problem is : i play mostly w/ 300pts team, and at that level, his cost is really hard to deal with : 187 #@/$*%g points. Add a medic and you're already past 200pts.
Did you ever build a 300 pts team w/ him ? What kind of fig did you add ?
(same problem w/ (V)Ultron).
Yes, he's playable, even can win in sealed booster 200 by himself, if played right and lucky. In 300+ he's faboo.

Played againts a team consisting of V Thor and moondrogon, plus a medic I think. Got my backside handed to me, but then I was playing DC and therefore had DC AVs vs Marvel DVs. Fortunately we weren't playing for money or anything :~)
If I'd had an outwitter on my team things would have been very different. well, a bit different...

he works his best magic in 400pt teams. i once got rocked with an avenger team using the thor/hawkeye runshot-combo and it wasn't pretty.

Vet Thor is definately a great fig, but I don't think he's really 300 pt tournament material. Like ace said he's more of 400 point material. Thor definately will not disappoint in fun games though, that's for sure.
If you want a very similar piece for at lot less points bring out the Super Skrull. He's almost every bit as good but a lot more efficient at 60 points less. But when playing at home have no fear bringing out Thor (any version) to smite your opponents! :)

Thor is in fact very playable in 300-pt. games. I used him in a tourney on Saturday along with E Black Panther, V Blade, E Mandroid, and R Hydra Medic. Did extremely well. Thor more than proved his worth; my only loss was to a super-cheese team of three Firelords and Sabretooth. And even then, I took a big chunk out of one Firelord and would've probably killed at least one if not for a small miscalculation on my part regarding Firelord's range. That running shot with ten range is hard to argue with, and I'd have no problem using him with that little medic in a 200-pointer.

Thor is definately an awesome figure. The only 300 pointer I had with him was pretty much him supported by shield troopers, agents, medics, or Snipers.
Basically, a small core of shield boosts a sniper's damage for your 3 actions, and then Thor flies around using his running shot to throw his hammer on the turns where the shield guys are resting. I did select a medic to try to hit his high defense should he lose his running shot, because he only has it for 2 clicks. You really cant push with Thor too much, because as the heart of your team he really depends on the running shot to move and attack in the same turn.
I think I ended up having 5 figures in the team, 4 of them being Shield figures.
Thor-V- 187
Elektra-E 22
Bullseye-E 31
B. Panther-E 36
Shield Medic-R 12
Shiled Medic-R 12
Total 300pts
Thor is your main weapn, but with B/C/F from Elektra and Panther(who also has outwit and stealth) and some range help from Bullseye you can make anyone sorry that they in range. Bullseye has a 10 attack so everyone is hittable. The medics can help keep everyone at full and can also boost some damage if you want. Elektra starts out with a low attack (7) so keep her back until you have worn the other team down a bit with Thor and Bullseye.

I think that the thundergod is viable in a three hundred point game. With the right support figures he can be a very tough hombre. I worked out a team that comes out to exactly 300 points. It's very similar to the team above:
V-Thor
V-Bullseye
E-Black Panther
V-SHIELD Medic
V-SHIELD Sniper
Thor is the kingpin. Bullseye is another long range threat with great offense and great defense at range. Black Panther is support with his Outwit while keeping brawlers worried with BFC. The Stealth allows him to strive out on his own to recon for his friends. SHIELD Medic is there for Support obviously and to give more offensive punch to Thor, Bullseye, and the Sniper at range.
Thor can either carry Bullseye and act as a lethal one-two punch at range to a single figure. or carry the Medic for the Support up close. Bullseye can hang back and get boosted my the medic and/or the Sniper as well. The Sniper can be a ranged threat of its own with a 9 attack and 10 range which can be supported by it's sister figure the Medic. So, there are several ways to play the army, with many different combinations that can be effective. I plan on actually testing this out the next time I play.
Thor is Quite Playable. But I think V annihulus is way BEtter. Especially in 200pts. Annihulus Is Fantastic unitil 5 or 6 clix. HE's GOt Running shot, Movement of 8, Range of 10, 3 Lightning Bolts, 3 damage, Invulnerability and Toughness, He can Fly, Plus Minions of Doom. Lets him use any other team ability on your side. HEres My 200pt team.
V. Annihulus 129
E. Cyclops 68
R. skrull Agent (Ability) 11
R. Robin 17
Total 295.
Keep your eyes on the WK Marvel HC site. They're going to be publishing my article about my V Thor team... someday... :)
It has been accepted, I just don't know when it'll get put up.

Hm, I always thought Thor Was And underestimated not-very well known Guy. But it seems he's pretty popular. Oh, And I will check that out Earnad
