Hello fellow Realmsers.

It has been an excellent few months since Hammer of Thor came out, seeing the Realms buzz again with new Heroclix and renewed interest in the game.

Plus since WizKids recently announced a tremendous 2010 release schedule that will elate gamers and depress our wallets, the forum is in for a Clix resurgence.

And with all the renewed interest in the game and our happy forum, I realize that the site needs strong, active leadership that I haven’t been providing lately. As such, I’m stepping down as HCRealms Administrator after 6 great years.

For me, I am still playing the game, reading the news and browsing the forum when time permits. But unfortunately the site is blocked from my work. I was holding out hope that I could make up the time online in the evening. However, I recently decided to do my first Triathlon, and training is now consuming all my free time (and energy).

However, this doesn’t mean I’m going away completely! I’ll still remain on as a Moderator, and have aspirations of writing reviews and articles when inspiration strikes (and time permits).

What this means for the forum is that there will be a new person manning the helm, applying his vision for the overall forum, and taking everyone’s crap as the ‘man in charge’!

There will be an announcement soon about who will be stepping up to fill that role.

I have had a great time here as Admin over the years and was fortunate to see the game and the site flourish in that time. I’m really bummed to step down and give up what had been one of my biggest (and most time consuming, and occasionally - most frustrating) hobbies. I’ve met a lot of excellent people here, and will at least be able to continue to have those relationships. Just in a slightly more relaxed capacity.

A few things before I sign off;
Thanks most of all to my Moderator staff over the years. Many people have come and gone in the role of Moderator, and I have appreciated beyond words the effort of every single one of them. The role of Moderator is probably the definition of a thankless job. But without these volunteers, HCRealms would degenerate into a worthless hive of scum and villainy. (Ok, more like hive of spammers, trolls, malcontents and maybe just a little villainy.)
The Mods also do so much behind the scenes, and deal with so many strong personalities, and their effort is what not only keeps HCRealms alive, but fun.
Thank you, thank you, thank you.

On the other side, I’d like to thank all the members of the forum. You guys are the blood and soul of the site. Your active discussions, fun banter, and even some of the arguments are all what make this site worth visiting in the first place. The more people we have here, the more diverse and interesting a place it becomes.

Beyond that, the members have come up with tremendous things that have helped grow this site into more than just HeroClix discussion. There are games, personal discussions, political debates, music and video game threads and lots of trading that go on here. People have made real friends here that extend outside the forum and the game. I couldn’t be happier that HCRealms is a place where people come to discuss clix, and come back to hang with their friends.

I’d also like to thank Typhon for bringing me on years ago as the Admin, and for allowing me to shape the forum over the years to keep up with the changing wants and needs of the members.

Realmworx is Tony’s baby, and the fact that he gave me such broad freedom was a matter of trust that was a great honor. I wish I was able to keep going, and keep working with him and the Mods.

However, I feel like the timing here is very good. It’s like the game has gotten a second wind since being picked up by NECA, and it’s only fitting that the forum get a new leader to match.

Thanks again to everyone for making this a fun several years on the realms. And I’m glad that I am stepping down reluctantly, rather than leaving out of frustration or because the game died.

As a final note, I have 2 things.
First, please be gentle on my replacement! It is not an easy thing to run a forum of 10,000 different opinions.
And, second, sort of like a departing president issuing pardons, I will be reinstating long time, formerly banned, member Ro-gan to our ranks. Be gentle to him too, though I guess if you’re rough that’s ok too, he might like it.

Thanks for taking the words out of my mouth! While HCRealms normally does not allow 'Goodbye' threads, AZS has been the admin here for years (he's actually older than some of our furniture in the lounge) and he felt it would be the right thing to do to let you all know of the Administration change, since it affects each and every one us on some level.

I haven't had as much time to running around to all parts of the site to keep an eye on things, but I'm trying to do a better job of that. I will totally miss Aaron 100%. He's been a great friend and good role model.

I sincerely hope his replacement has as much passion for the site as he did.

If only it were...no...not me. I do have the first issue of Silver Surfer (as well as 2-18 with only missing a few of the teen issues, but It was not my car. I drive a PT Cruiser which is about ready to become scrap metal so I can go get a REAL car.

A year later and...

I haven't completely left the Realms. Though I was absent more than I was present. The site is no longer completely banned from my office.*

I've officially stepped down as the Site Admin, but still poke around and help Typhon where I can. I think my official role is still somewhat nebulous at the moment.

As for the triathlon I said I was doing... well... I actually ended up doing four of them last summer. All Sprints of varying distances. And I'm already signed up for 3 more this summer, all Olympics, which I hope to be ready for. The first is in just about 5 weeks (May 7). The timing kinda bugs me, because it means I won't get to see Thor until that Sunday.

My GF kinda helped me really get into the 'sport.' She bought me a super fancy road bike that's I've loved riding. I think if I'd done the first race on my old mountain bike as intended, I might not have gotten as much of a taste for it.

As for the realms, I got to write the GSX Primer review with Anonym0use and really enjoyed being back in the mix. I forgot how much I liked being knee deep in the game, and the duel review format was a great twist.

My available time kind of ebbs and flows, so I don't know how much or when I'll be around, but I'm definitely still here; and glad the game and the realms are too.




*Oddly, the home page is blocked, and the Units section is blocked. Everything else is accessible. WK site is still blocked, so I can never click on "XXX is up! Here's a link!" links. So I always appreciate when people take the extra time to post the details and the dial. :)
