Knowing how many generics will be in BatB, I am betting that the battlefield promotion will be involved with them pretty heavily. Maybe a Checkmate Pawn will be promoted to a Knight if he can get a KO, and that promotion will add in extra firepower for the team. If that is the case, then people will be likely to fit more Pawn on their team for the chance of upgrading them for potentially no cost (making a slightly unbalanced, but not crazy broken team). If this is what happens, then it would think that more people will play these Minions, and that will add more people to the field that these Minions could kill easier, thus making the mechanic work better. I for one will try to play more Checkmate teams!
