not again, me and my friends...we re like a 3 headed hydra, we just cant agree...it goes back to Line of Fire and Ranged Combat...

if you shoot upwards or downwards, do you halve your range? as if you were shooting at a soaring character?

please tell me the who can shoot who cant shoot (assume everyone are enemies to each other) in this diagram...

xxxxxxx......
xxxxxxx.......
xxxxxRxJ.....
xxxxxxH...B.
xxxxxxx......
xxxxxxx......

x equals roof surface (including the thick black blocking terrain lines)
. equals ground surface
R is R Robin
H is E Huntress
J is E Joker
B is V Blue Beetle

please tell me who can shoot who here...me and my friends are still disputing line of fire especially with elevated figures since they are not adjacdent, it means you can exchange fire, but do you HALVE your range if you shoot upward or downward? clear everything up and i ll bury the long range combat subject for reals

a unknightly knight

You do NOT halve range when shooting onto elevated terrain.

Joker has line of fire to...
Huntress
Blue Beetle

Huntress has line of fire to...
Joker
Blue Beetle
Robin

Blue Beetle has line of fire to...
Huntress
Joker

Robin has line of fire to...
Huntress

However there is one question you did NOT ask...

xxxxxx......
xxxxxx......
xxxxxx......
xxxxxH...JB
xxxxxx......

In the above case...
Huntress has line of fire to BOTH Joker and Blue beetle because as an elevated character she ignores all ground bound terrain except that in the target square.
Blue Beetle does NOT have line of fire to Huntress since as a ground bound figure he must check every square between him and Huntress.

great, that really settles a whole lot of sh*t. so i assume that Outwit, Perplex, those powers with a range arent halved for elevation, but they are halved if used against soaring characters?

Not sure what you're asking there so lets just say it this way...

the ONLY time range is halved is when you are dealing with a grounded or hovering character attempting to use a ranged ability against a soaring character.

According to the rules you can be on top of the Sears Tower, I can be on the street outside and I would get full range for any ranged attack I have against you (assuming I have line of fire). this includes normal ranged attacks, attacks using RCE, Mind Control, Incapacitate, Perplex, Outwit, Probability Control and my new, never before tested mighty spit shooter gun.

At least, that's how I read the rules.

yea i understand range halving against soaring and none for elevation, i was really asking whether it applied to perplex outwit, no halving over terrain but halving for soaring? that s all i was wondering, whether the halving for soaring applied to outwit perplex and the like thanks

Yes, to Outwit, Perplex, and Probability Control. From a non-Soaring figure to a Soaring figure the range is 5, not 10.

HeroComplex is correct and your answers can be found in the FAQs.

From the FAQs:

"Outwit requires a clear line of fire. It is not, however, a ranged attack action
and therefore is not subject to restrictions specific to ranged attacks.
Exception: When used against a soaring figure, Outwit is subject to the same
half-range reduction as a ranged attack (see DC rules, p. 15)."

"Probability Control requires a clear line of fire. It is not, however, a ranged
attack action and therefore is not subject to restrictions specific to ranged
attacks. Exception: When used against a soaring figure, Probability Control is
subject to the same half-range reduction as a ranged attack (see Marvel rules,
p. 15)."

"Perplex requires a clear line of fire. It is not, however, a ranged attack action and therefore is not subject to restrictions specific to ranged attacks. Exception: when used against a soaring figure, Perplex is subject to the same half range reduction as a ranged attack."

In the future check out the FAQs and you can save yourself and your friends some time disagreeing.;)

Not a problem.:D

Go here for Marvel (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/marvel/howtoplay.asp?cid=36403) and here for DC (http://www.wizkidsgames.com/heroclix/dc/howtoplay.asp?cid=37016) and look up almost anything you need to know that is not in the Rulebook or the PAC. It is listed alphabetically. If you cannot find it in either FAQ then ask away here on the boards. :p

It is always a good idea to print out a copy of both FAQs and have them with you ANYTIME you play.

Hope this helps.:)
