Hi all.

Its been a while since Ive done a comics related TOC, so I thought Id make use of the Power Scale Lists that we ALL had a hand in making, and set something up for us all to debate and participate in.

Pretty simple idea, 2 combatants engage one another on a completely neutral, planet-side, battlefield (ala Battleworld from Secret Wars) to Clash against one another, each winner (decided by your votes) moving on to the next Round, which finally a Grand Champion is crowned.

I give you this next of many matches to come:

LEGION (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legion_%28Marvel_Comics%29)

vs.

NERO (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nero_%28DC_Comics%29)

So, lets hear from you all on which of these two you think would win, and is deserving to move one step closer to our Final Match of the H-SHW Level TOC!!

I think this matchup wins for 'most insanity'.

Hm, Pyro, TK, TP, vs Qwardian ring. I gotta say, I'm leaning towards Nero, rings do give mental protection (plus, his mind, while crazy, is strong. Unless it's tricked into turning on itself, Nero's got a lot of will), and he should have the power edge in the other areas. So I'll tentatively vote Nero.

If Qwardian rings give the same protection from psychic powers that GL rings do, then Nero should be able to handle any other stuff that Legion can do to him. Assuming that's the case, Nero get my vote.

Ive always felt a bit in doubt with GL rings giving full mental protection, so Im even moreso about handing that to Sinestro rings as well. Are there any instances to show this in the comics?

It's not exactly full mental protection I'd say, but GLs do tend to be pretty resistant even though they face a lot of telepaths, it gives protection beyond even what someone with their level of willpower would provide (there's also some tricks that provides total-absolute protection that the ring can provide, like when Stewart created a construct that let him think in 'the first language', but normally they're 'just' highly resistant). Hector Hammond goes for people around Hal, not Hal directly. In Blue Beetle Guy broke free from Ultra-Humanite's use of his powers to shut down his and Jaime's optic nerves. I'm sure there's quite a few others.

Ill toss a vote for Nero, the ring brings him more options in my mind and if it provides even some mental protection that should be good enough.

That's great, but those are all instances of Green Lantern rings being wielded by Green Lanterns, known for their willpower. Legion's telepathy and psychic powers are top notch, I'd say at least a few levels above Humanite's.

Still on the fence on this one though.

Qwardian rings work just like GL rings- that is, will-based. Nero has a fanatical will and a delusion that he's a knight of good.

I thought the whole thing about the colored rings now was that they worked off a different emotion, GLs being Willpower, Sinestro Corp being Fear.

Now, yes. Sinestro Corp rings are based on fear, but the original Qwardian rings, of which there were only two ever made, Sinestro's/Guy's and Fatality's/Nero's, were strait modified copies of GL rings without the flaws and able to even use GL batteries to charge (when Kyle went Ion, Nero caught some of that and his constructs started going green even).

Which is why Guy could use Sinestro's without problem for quite awhile, even though he wasn't fear-based. The Qwardian rings and the SC rings work different despite the color similarity.

Ah, I see. Well, not sure about GL/SC being highly resistant mentally, but I think Nero has what it takes overall to defeat Legion more than not, so he gets my vote here.

Good to know, I take back what I said before then. Nero to advance

Not quite sure here about this. Legion wasn't just limited to his basic three power set (Pyrokinesis, Telekinesis, Telepathy) in this version. He was flat out time travelling on his own.

Q99
04/11/2010, 08:07
Time travel's not really useful in an arena battle, since he only does it in big leaps I think.
