read it for yourself the design notes are getting a lot more defensive and bitter...

you know i would probably be really bitter and defensive too if everyone was dissecting everything i said and totally bashing any thing that i leave vague and everything that doesn't agree with their opinion of what a character should have. i mean this is months of hard work for him and half the posts on the character are all rants on how they don't like this or don't like that...

haha... maybe i have too much empathy for the dude...

:p

Hey I agree with ya. If it were me I'd be sitting back saying, Why do this at all?? And we all wonder why we don't have the Silver Surfer...he's probably afraid to!

I've noticed that ever since the recent interview and the pointed replies to the comments that interview generated, there's been a lot less shrill posting about how everyone sux and blah blah blah. It's quieted down to a lot of "Well, Yeah, but..." sort of posts.

I couldn't be happier about that! More discussion, less kvetching! More speculation, less harping! Polite discourse instead of insulting and baiting!

It's a new day in Clixville.

Heh, he's lasted longer than I would have!:D

I'd be all like.. "That's it!! You get a set based around the Power Pack and you WILL like it!"

Can't really blaim him myself then.. =p

I noticed it, too. It's funny how everyone rants and makes mouthy comments like "WizKids better listen up" and the like... people assume that they're not listening just because we don't hear from them.

Now we know... they hear EVERYTHING! Watch your back.

I love this. There's hardly any witchen, since I know the B word would be censered. Its so peaceful. I slowed down on my posts becuase there was no productive talk goin on.

yeah am glad you guys noticed the tone of the interview too. That's why I try not to get too hyper critical of any fig. That's why I try to ask for an updated figure rather than bash the one thats out. I don't know if that makes a diference however *shrugs*.

Well Im glad that people on here voice all the negative opinions so that the game designers will hear what we want. If no one ever #####ed we might have 20 more Elektra's.... or more Spiderman's without Super Senses. Hell these guys have the funnest job in the world and I would love to take their place if they ever want to give it up .

Ya but there is a big difference between negitve opinions and a lot of the flames that happen here.

Oh, Manchine, there's always some bi+ching going on. Amble on over to Mystics--Who Should They Be? I'm in a knock down-drag out with CapSpalding over god-only-knows-what at this point. It's like a Star Trek fight, I swear.

Wouldn't be so bad except CapSpalding keeps wanting to take his shirt off. Ewww. Creepy Kirk.

I don't blame them for getting bitter in their posts, but I hope they at least understand that it IS their fault we bash their ####pier figures.

they do some great stuff, but they also make some really boneheaded descisions. The original Jean Grey, for instance, should never have left without an Experienced version that has all the abilties that the U Phoenix has now. And a new Electra that costs MORE points than Phoenix? Lol.

See, we could stop them from making these mistakes.

all it would take on their parts would be that they release the names and stats of all figures prior to locking them in stone. Then we could debate the usefullness and realism of each until we're satisfied, and THEN they could release them with only minimal nay-sayers.

Also, they need to swap the Mageknight artists with the HC artists, because Mageknights look WAY prettier than Heroclix, while Heroclix is MUCH more popular.

Helll ##### all you want! Thats what these guys are paid to do... listen to people ##### about their product so they can make it better the next time around... I mean this is their WORK, their JOB, its not supposed to be fun all the time... as far as Im concerned they have the best jobs in the world... being paid for designing a game about comic characters...every fanboy's dream... so if it comes with some #####ing from a disappointed public who has to shell out money to buy their stuff they better get used to it... We have every right to #####... its our money thats paying for their house, cars, etc...

Im a teacher, and I love teaching...but at work I get bitsched out by principles, parents, lunch ladies...etc... but I go back the next day with a big smile on for my kids (students) because I like what I do... and this Jon guy at WK is probably getting at least 2 or 3 times my pay, and if he doesnt like what hes reading he doesnt have to come in here... I wish it was that easy to shut my principle up!

so if you dont like something...just say it... for example I HATED the paintjobs for IC... they just plainSUCK... am I not supposed to complain because that might hurt their feelings... well too bad... do a better job next time... and it seems like they are...

I mean its not just all negative... there are much more posts here about how everyone is excited about the game...and alot of healthy debates about the characters... but when I do see something that I dont agree with I want to be able to say it... and this forum is the best way to voice your opinions...

If you think Im bitter...well I guess I am a little... but after the venting Im all better now :D

Soap box time - apologies in advance...

All the griping about 'character x's stats really gets on my <fill in the blank>.

1) It's a game that didn't exist until Wizkids had the great idea to invest in making it. If you want to play it just as 'a game' then tough, you have to accept the rules as printed and get on with it (or not). By all means register constructive suggestions for amendments, but don't tear the ar*e out of it 'cause Hawkeye doesn't live up to preconceptions/expectations.

2) If all you are interested in is recreating a comics-feel to private gameplay (as opposed to official sanctioned tournaments) then what's the problem? Pull apart the base of the problem figure and insert your own preferred stats. Problem solved. Works for me & mine.

Rant over. Sorry peeps.

I hope you teach math, and not English. Or Social Studies.

There's a right way and a wrong way to go about getting something changed. You will always catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. A constant barrage of negativity and bile will get you nothing more than defensive postures in return.

I'm sure there is some good that comes from the constant flow of abuse that is spewed like stage blood in a slasher flick all over this message board. I know I would HATE to be the WizKids employee who had to trawl through it every day, looking for a well-reasoned argument or suggestion.

Just because you have a free reign on this board to type and say what you want doesn't mean you should.

Something to think about the next time you want to post a shrill comment.

I just hope WK doesn't start believing that point cost is the ranking criteria for a figure. I don't want Phoenix to cost 160 points! Elektra costs 160 points because of several expensive powers (perplex down the dial is good in theory, but...). That doesn't make her better or more powerful than figures who cost less. Jon seems to know what he's doing, so hopefully he'll keep up the good work.

I'm a little frightened to know there's a fellow teacher out there who doesn't know how to spell the title of the person he works for...

I've been thinking the same thing, Groovy. It's like when Pres. Bush mispronounces "nuclear" all the time... makes you wonder if they know what they're talking about.

Anyway, gotta get back to work at my resteraunte. My costumers want their fud. I hope I get good teeps.

quixotequest

Well, maybe W. pronounces nuclear like nuke-you-lar because it's an inside joke for all of us Simpsons watchers. Naw. W. is just a fascist dunderhead.

But back to topic. I've really noticed the digs at fans in recent publishing from WK. Granted they may *think* this stuff about the fanboy complainers; I'd probably feel the same if in their shoes. But the stuff they release is official company correspondence. They write like they are using email. Hasn't any of these so-called "professionals" ever taken a public relations course? At a minimum they should be running this past someone before it's released. I can't believe their Marketing Director wouldn't be having a fit. (And if their MD isn't having a fit they should be.) Not every customer might get what the "Designer" is referring to and he/she ends up sounding petty.

It's a double edge sword. WizKids' "Mom n Popishness" allows them a degree of candor that we'd never enjoy from a company like Hasbro, but it also shows exactly how unprofessional they really are. I'm split: as a fan I like things the way they are, digs and all. As someone in the publishing biz, it's hard to give them any respect.

naw...i can see where he's coming from. he's a guy with a dream job. not a corporate shill. i'm just guessing that he never expected to get such scrutiny from the fans.

but......um.....unless they start raising their suggested tournament point value from 200 points to 300 points (or more), all these flashy high cost figures aren't gonna fly with the fans. i mean, neat, a 160 electra figure. but of the two main powers she's got (and is paying for) she can only use bfc or mind control at the same time....not both. sure, i can see the point costed upped because she has the option which to use, but to charge full price for both powers is silly. it'd be cheaper (and more productive strategy-wise) to get a U wolverine and a v white queen on a team instead of one figure that does both...... i mean, two figures equals two actions and also two targets.

Malchyor:

Your observations are spot on. The tournament program with WizKids is conceptually bankrupt. I'm not sure, exactly, what the tournament program is supposed to accomplish, but if it is promoting the game, attracting players, nurthuring a zest for the game, etc., our local scene is flushed--and plunged--down the toilet. I'll confess I'm not a power gamer, and went to the games for fun, but the LE prizes (and the cheese it attracts) have negated any of the kids and teens I tried to get interested in going.

We're still buying boosters and playing fun games with each other, but the tournaments have little attraction. They get 2 or 3 participants at most nowadays.
