Some dude named Alfred Molina has been cast as Otto Octavius in the new Spidey sequal. here's what tthe Official Spiderman website had to say!
Here's some more info on Alfred Molina.
Molina recently earned a SAG nomination for his portrayal of Mexican artist Diego Rivera in Julie Taymor's film Frida. Featured in Columbia Pictures' upcoming psychological thriller Identity, Molina has appeared in more than 50 film and television productions, as well as enjoying an extensive theatrical career. Born in London, he studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His stage work includes two major Royal National Theatre productions Speed The Plow and Night of the Iguana. He made his Broadway debut in 1998 in the Tony Award-winning play Art opposite Victor Garber and Alan Alda. In addition to a Best Actor Tony nomination, Molina received a Drama Desk Award for his performance. Other theatrical performances of note include a starring role in the off-Broadway production of Molly Sweeney, for which Molina garnered a Theatre World Award and a Drama Desk Award nomination for Outstanding Debut Performance.
Molina made his movie debut with Raiders of The Lost Ark and had a notable role as a Soviet sailor in Letter To Brezhnev. His breakthrough movie role came in 1987 when he played the role of Kenneth Halliwell, the tragic lover of Joe Orton in Stephen Frears' Prick Up Your Ears. In 1998, Molina won accolades for his powerful performance in Paul Thomas Anderson's film Boogie Nights, which won the SAG Award for outstanding performance by a cast in a theatrical motion picture. He also appeared in Anderson's Magnolia. Other film credits include The Imposters, Anna Karenina, Species, The Perez Family, Maverick, Enchanted April, Not Without My Daughter, Dudley-Do-Right, Texas Rangers and Chocolat. He will next be seen in the film drama Luther.

Molina will be a good Doc Ock. He was good in Maverick, Chocolat and Boogie Nights, so I have good expectations for him here.
Looks like I wasn't the first to mention this...but click Here (http://www.thisislondon.com/news/showbiz/articles/3498700?source=PA) to read the full story.
I saw "Art", and if this is who I think it is, he will be fabulous! My favorite villain with great casting; can't wait! He was also great in Imposters, but so was everyone else. It's weird to think that such an "artsy-fartsy" actor like this will finally get bigger bucks for a more mainstream movie.

From DarkHorizons:
The Amazing Spider-Man: Well now its official - Alfred Molina has been cast as 'Doc Ock' in the live-action spidey sequel which begins filming in April in NYC. Rumours are still swirling (and yet to be denied) that Lindsay Lohan & Elizabeth Banks will play Kara Carter & Betty Brant respectively. Also quite interesting is that despite the much held belief the Lizard would be the second villain, Marvel head Avi Arad told The Philadelphia News that "there will almost definitely be only one main villain". In the same article Arad confirmed "Blade III" will be Wesley's last as the vampire hunter, whilst the "Wolverine" X-Men spin-off movie seems to be a very distinct possibility - "Making a movie about his origin and letting him figure out who he is may be [a] real interesting movie".

well thankfuly someone posted a link with his picture because I really couldn't place the face with the name.
He's British?! What the ... ?!
Hello? Producers? The man's name is 'Otto Octavius'. He clearly needs to be a German!
Casting a Brit is as ludricrous as making someone like the Kingpin black.

Octavius isn't a German last name. It would be Itilian or Greek.

Not necessarily. His full name is Otto Gunther Octavius. Otto is Teutonic in origin, Gunther is Scandanavian, and Octavio (the origin of Octavius) is Latin. The origin of his entire name suggests north central European, which would be either Germany or Austria.
He was also fabulous as The Butcher in the second best Bill Murray movie ever: The Man Who Knew Too Little.

Well if were getting historical. A vast majority of Brits are of germanic heritage. Still its a moot point. Molena was born in the UK but his father is from spain.
SPAIN?! That's worse than Britain!
I can just picture him repeating some sort of stupid line like "My name is Otto Octavius. I have eight arms. Prepare to die." over and over and over ...
Hollywood needs to realize that these characters were written a certain way for a reason and that they can't take creative license with these characters just for the heck of it.
And the only way that they'll ever get that message is in low ticket sales at the box office. Count me out as far as seeing this ridiculous movie goes.
Nice casting, but what's this about him simply being known as Doc Ock? His name is Doctor Octopus, Doc Ock is just what Spidey calls him.
seriously... Doc Oc?
Doesnt' fly, why must they change his name too? Otto Octavius is good... ugh...

I don't know what's better, the fact that they casted a great actor who's great for the part to play Doc Oc, or the fact that he'll be the only main villain! Nice to see Spiderman's not making the same mistake Batman did.

Bravo to using respected actors as villains. "Dungeons and Dragons" was abysmal, but it was a hoot to watch Jeremy Irons overact the bejesus out of the bad guy role. Don't know if anyone remembers the rumor that John Malkovich was going to play Mr. Freeze in the last Batman movie. He obviously didn't, and instead of creepy, disconnected Batman Animated Series Mr. Freeze, we got campy Rainier Wolfcastle "Nahw I vill put yoo on ice" Mr. Freeze. Besides, Willem Defoe was dead on as the Green Goblin. Now, to fantasy cast Scorpion, Rhino, and Sandman...

He was GREAT in Raiders of the Lost Ark. "Throw me the idol, and I'll throw you the whip.", then he just drops the whip. Classic. Too bad his TV shows were horrendous.

You're really smart. And no that wasn't sarcasm.

Don't forget Colin Farrel as Bullseye, and Micheal Duncan Clarke (I think that's his name...) as Kingpin. They were both great actors for their roles. I can't wait to see who the villian in The Hulk will be, I'm hoping for the Abomination. I alos can't wait to see who'll play The Mandarin in the Iron Man movie.
Well, my FIRST choice for Ock would have been Larry Drake, but seeing as how Molina pulled off a fantastic performance in the incredibly fun movie Maverick (as Angel), I'm definately stoked to see him as Doc Ock.
As for the fantasy casting part...
Sandman-Bill Fagerbakke. Ok, just give him a short haircut and dye his hair and you're set. I would have said Howie Long, but he's not exactly the best of actors, so Fagerbakke takes it. Keep his hair long and blonde and he'd make a killer Thor, too!
Scorpion-Umm..this can go lots of ways, really. Anybody see the movie The Hills Have Eyes? The creepy bald guy in that could do it, either that or the old version of Vulture.
Rhino-Hmm. Tough one. Go ahead and laugh, but I'd say that Paul Wight aka The Big Show would fit the bill as you need someone of incredibly massive size for this part.

I'm still sticking with my choice to play Venom: rocker/comedien/actor Henry Rollins. If I had to pick an actor only based on acting skills and looks, I'd go with Christian Slater.

True but can you tell me whom in the offices of Marvel came up with the shortened name of Doc Ock?

I'd been rooting for Elton John as Doctor Octopus . . .
(That was a joke, but seriously he looks a lot like him . . .)

Stan Lee did, but I don't see your point. There's still no reason to shorten his name. It's unrealistic, can you see a dignified scientist like Octavius saying something like "I shall be called Doc Ock! That's a pleasant little rhyme! HAHAHA!".
BTW, too true on the Elton John comment. I think of him whenever I pick up an older comic with Ock in it (mainly Secret Wars).
