The idea...

a big tournament...max 32 players.

Two events...both
Sealed Booster Event (3 boosters) most likely older sets (no detail yet)
3 swiss rounds
Followed by top 8 Single Elimination til we get a winner

Prizes:
I'm putting up 128 of my LEs I never use as participation & finishing order prizes.
Event 1
1 LE per participant
Places 5-8 get 2 more LE's
Places 3 & 4 get 4 LE's
2nd Place gets 8 LE's
1st place gets 8 LE's and thier choice of Old or new Galactus

Event 2
1 LE per participant
Places 5-8 get 2 more LE's
Places 3 & 4 get 4 LE's
2nd Place gets 8 LE's
1st place gets 8 LE's and SDCC Foom

The Questions are:
400 points or 300? (I think it depends on what boosters the store owner is able to get)
Would you play if it was near you?
Would you pay $40 to play?

I'm also thinking of allowing participants to buy a booster of newer sets if they feel there team is pewp.

Basically i want those huge tournaments we used to get when Wizkids had pre-release tournaments.

Tips and suggestions are welcomed. :)

I'd vote for four boosters total, one of which has to be BatB, the other three could be whatever the store could get their hands on. $35 could cover the cost at that point. Then one tourney is 300 points and the other is 400. That way if someone pulls a great 200+ point fig, but can't really make a 300 point team, they'd have a chance in the 400 point tourney.

But yeah, a big tourney would be pretty cool - although being a parent myself, as many others are, would throw a bit of a monkey wrench into it. It would be cool if we could start at like 7pm on a Friday night and then play til the wee hours of the morning, if a store were willing to do that.

We're thinking of having it on a Sat. like the pre-release tournaments. I'm a parent and sometimes a you need a day away from the wife and kids. ;)

Oh forgot to mention the tournaments would be on different days...probably seperated by a month or so.

Well if we're seperating them by that much, it would be cool on a Saturday then. Any stores willing to talk turkey yet? I'm sure I could get at least two or three other guys to attend out of our clix group if that helps with head-counting...

Empire's comic vault has stepped up. I just want to make sure we can get a good turn out.

So it's $40 total, or $40 per event?

My brother and I might be game, but it would depend on timing...and if we're paying $20 for a tournament, we'd prefer at least half the boosters be to the latest set (and that we're not forced to mix Marvel and DC). We're not big tournament junkies though, so that might not match your average Sacramento area tournament player.

will the tournaments be sat night late night or earlier?

I think it would be near $40 per event. it's just a guess as the shop keeper has the final say. it may be lower but i didn't want to set expectations low. it's easier to say "it's lower" than "you have to pay more". It would start Sat around 11 am.

Also i do think you're be mixng universes but i can't say for sure yet.
