View Full Version : 500 Point Ares Team?

I recently have come into possession of Legacy Ares. The problem is... he's rather... expensive.

I've tried making Armor Theme-Teams, a few of which turned out well.

Ares - Legacy + Fortitude + Protected = 308
AA Batman + Protected = 72
AA Batman = 64
2x Mandroid Armor = [28 each]

Heres my 'No theme' version.. suggestions are MORE than welcome.

Ares - Legacy + Fortitude + Lucky Break = 305
Gamora + Protected = 81
CJ The Atom - 50
Indy Vet - Johnny Alpha - 64

Mobility + Secondary attackers seems to be a problem. I can either add like 100 points of TK, or I end up not being able to fully use Ares. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

I have a good Warrior theme team...

Ares 275
-Fortitude 25
Punisher 83
V Shi 47
R Johnny Alpha 41
LE Elektra 19

10 points left over for a feat of choice, or Alfred Pog to give Punisher BA and a 4 point feat.

Punisher give some extra ranged support, but LE Skurge is 80 points if you want some melee help instead.

Do tell. I'm interested in all ideas. I normally have an idea of what I want to do with new figures [Like Graviton or Hulk].. but Ares seems rather weird to use. Part of me wants to use him at range, the other part loves the close-combat ownage... I find myself conflicted as to where to put him, or which team to build with him.

Well...

I look at someone with a point cost that high and I think to myself "I need to be able to do something with this guy almost every turn." So for that mechanic we have Chief (2/3 turns), Warbound (every turn until "helper" dies"), and Nigma (every turn until Nigma dies). Now, the problem with Warbound is you need a 140ish point person sharing Ares' keyword. Ok, but you now have a 140pt character who isn't attacking, not good. So that leaves Nigma or Chief. Of the two Nigma gives you more actions with Ares. So let's start there...

Ares + Fortitude + Protected = 308
Nigma 60 + Thwart = 75
R. Johnny Alpha 41
Lightspeed 25 (to carry up Alpha)
Spider-Man 50
=499

So you have Ares carry Nigma, Nigma takes the token. Lightspeed carries Alpha, hopefully into hindering. Spider-Man moves up behind your guys. Next turn you are all set up to TK out Ares and let him go nuts. On the next turn you can TK out Nigma who can take a token for Ares, and then if you need he can be pushed to Thwart your opponents Fort. or Protected so you can do some real damage. Lightspeed can bring Spider-Man into the fray, or he can be tk'd after Alpha clears. Spider-Man can use Johnny's 2000AD for a +1 attack, and Ares Mystics if he gets hit.

If you don't have Nigma just sub in Chief. He isn't quite as effective, but still should let you attack a lot more often. Then you can drop Lightspeed and Spider-Man for a more effective piece (Elektra, Gamora, Talia, Kid Zoom?)

Hope that helps a bit. If you have any more questions or need some different ideas feel free to PM me.

Thanks for the idea. I dont have an Nigma yet, but i'll put him on my 'wants'. I didn't even think of using chief to push him again and again.

[On a side note.. can you charge/carry?]

Thanks for the idea, i'll try and use the figures while testing with my friends to see if its 'tournament worthy' for our weekly 'casual 500 point unrestricted'/

:)

On a side note.. Would a character like Xorn be useful for TK/Support? Ares gets that low 15/14 defense at the end of his dial.. so I keep thinking I should try and heal him back up... Thoughts?

You can Charge/Carry however you will halve your movement, then reduce it by 2. So the person you are charging needs to be close.

Chief has support as well. And as you don't have Nigma, use Chief. And I prefer to separate my TK'er and Support so as not to make too attractive of a target. Against Xorn who will have to get up a bit to TK out Ares, they are going to go after him, he's 94 points. Alpha on the other hand has Stealth, and Super Senses and is only 41 points. So they might think twice. To get to Chief they will have to get by your Ares and secondary attacker, which again may make them think twice.

If you have the Brunhilde LE from Sinister then run an army of Asguardian Warriors & Valkyries.

This is one I'd like to try, but every time I've used my Ares he's rolled no less than 5 crit misses each time.

Good points. I'll stick with cheap-o support figures for now.

[Now i need to find a home for Xorn

Is Chief's ability range-dependent? I didn't see anything about like 'Adjecent character' or anything like that.. could i just hide him in the bushes near alpha, and run Ares around w/out having backup? So Ares could carry Spiderman or Gamora or whomever?

Run Brun + 2x Warriors + 1 Valky + Ares + Fort Protected?

Seems.. aggressive. But doens't that just roll over if they target Brun?

For "Play purposes" Assume i have like 95% of playable figures. I have a friend who is a MASSIVE collector, so he lets me borrow all his LEs and High $$ Figures. :)

His ability is not range dependent. So he can stay in your starting area, while Ares is on the other side of the board.

Ares can carry anyone who is not a flier or transporter.
